nothing worse then a medical emergency out on the trails...I had a diverticulious attack on my Okefenokee Swamp trip.I had to cut my trip short ..man you are hardcore...I respect that...kidney stone attack and then right back to climbing the mountain trail heading to camp!!…..getting old we face more challenges..but we have lived long enough to know how to deal with those challenges!!! nothing better then sunrises and sunsets...my favorite times of day!...nice place to camp and hike!...I need to get back to the mountains..hopefully this spring!

Hike with Mike - So true. On the kidney stone, I knew I just needed an IV. I had them before. When I got fluids I passed it quickly in the emergency room. Once it passed, I was good to go. Diverticulitis is very serious. A friend of mine has that. It can be debilitating. Hope yours doesn’t act up too much. Appreciate you watching. I had fun making this video. The sunsets and sunrises are my favorite. Thank you brother!✌️

Hi. Recently found your channel by first watching the long hike you did in northwest GA and Lookout Mountain. I was looking for videos showing the trails at Oak Mountain SP and found a few you created. Background: I'm a long-time hiker, have hiked half of the AT, still enjoy mountain trails at 71 (by God's Grace). We lived in north Shelby county from June, 1990 to Feb. 1999. We lived along AL 119 Cahaba Valley Road in two different houses. The first one was in a subdivision called Oak Ridge. I could walk to the top of the subdivision and over the mountain ridge and end up in Oak Mountain State Park. In those days, I hiked in the park or on the Pinhoti Trail. Having said that, I now live in south Mississippi (Laurel-Hattiesburg) and plan to return to this fine state park and see how it has changed/improved since 1999 - the same for the Pinhoti. I also have a 17-yr old grandson who wants to hike with me. I think this park is a good place for him to start. Thank you for your channel, and God Bless!

4:50--"I wonder if it has anything to do with getting old?" I can relate. Where as I know my days of going out on 6 day/5 night/10-15 mile a day hikes are long over, I really enjoy seeing people close to my age getting out there. I still walk 3-4 miles every other day for exercise, but if I go camping it's pretty much static camping. I like some of the gear reviews I see on your channel. I'll be going through them soon. Camping season here in Texas is really only feasible until about mid April and than the heat sets in. But if you live in Alabama, I guess you already know that. Good work!

Brian Mackey - Thank you so much for the kind words. Nothing wrong with static camping. I am dealing with knee issues and I know my long distance hiking is coming to an end. My wife and I have tentatively mapped out a vacation loop (with our travel trailer) that will take us to Cloudland Canyon, then to Monte Sano, maybe Cheaha, then down to the Florida panhandle, then Stephen C Foster SP in the Okefenokee, and back home to NC. One thing that I recall about the Alabama mountains is that most of the rivers we'd see were crystal clear. I miss that.

@@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING well mate, what is your budget? I have done a lot of vids with my DJI Spark and find it an awesome drone. The newer drone, the DJI mavic mini is a 2.7k drone, 3 axis gimbal and takes awesome footage. I am using the DJI mavic pro at the moment and love it. There are other options as well for you to consider. The Hubsan Zino Pro which is a similar price range to the mini is a great little drone. Do a youtube search on all these drones but if you are anything like me, I search and search and search, looking at the pluses and negs of each drone then fimd that one has what I want but the other doesn't, so, which one to choose? I can tell you though, a DJI drone is a very stable unit, they have had it right for years where others have tried to follow to no avail. In saying that, the Hubsan looks to be a great new product on the market and it shoots in 4k over the mini's 2.7k if that's at all important to you. Mate feel free at any time to drop me a line and ask any questions you may have, always here to help mate. Cheers :)

Nice and peaceful out there except for the night of horror music. Thanks for sharing your adventure. Camping in the cold isn't fun for me especially in the 20s. I hiked Cumberland Island near the FL/GA line. It was only supposed to be in the 40s and I wasn't expecting it and only took my 30 degree rated bag. 😬

Solo hike wow, I have done it but don't like it. Toe warmers are good but I buy the 18 hour one and they will last all night. Lots of things happen at night in the woods, like trees falling, coyotes yelping, mice running around your tent.

Okay bro...this was such a good video. Love that pack! Dang...passed a kidney stone and still backpacked...you the man!!! LOL....Yes my friend, getting old does have something to do with the heavy breathing on the up's. LOL. Question: The attachment on your right shoulder strap, is that for your phone etc and is it waterproof?
@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING5 жыл бұрын
Kamper 2020 - Thanks so much for your comment! Yeah, hiking back to they campsite brought back memories of that fateful kidney stone incident. The pocket on my shoulder strap was an attachment that Gossamer Gear sells for a cell phone. It is not waterproof. I actually just got a larger phone and mine doesn’t fit in this one anymore. So, I just use it for snacks. I recommend the larger pocket attachment for any IPhone larger than the standard 8 phone. Appreciate ya always watching. I still want to send you a 3-4 day resupply when you get started. I’ll email you when you get on the trail. Hope all your preparations are going well. ✌️

@@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING I have had a bad cough for the past few weeks (yes, even on my cruise, but I wouldn't let that spoil the fun), so I haven't been doing over-nighters in the cold, just day hikes. Yes, I am a bit over weight now, but I'm pretty strong and will push through the early "molasses" leg feeling of those first couple days worth of mountains.
