I was on the Cronan Creek Track about 2 weeks ago and it's amazing to see how much the vegetation has grown in a year. That last section of single trail before the waterfall is now like a jungle to get through, very different! Awesome that you saw a koala!

Hey loved your selection of gear and I have some it as well. I have been looking at that Alton tarp but it is quite expensive. Have a look at 2go systems, they have a bivvy that is extremely light weight and small package, it’s a very durable material, that is waterproof and can be unzipped to a tarp. It will add 5-10 deg to your sleeping bag but it is expensive and has to be imported from America. We use a fleece bag for summer. Got a pathfinder as well and it is a quality product, however it is on the heavy side although with its case it is a good piece of survival kit in its own right. Anyway we enjoyed watching this video but we were left wondering how on earth you an hike in work boots????
@JonesysJourneys
@JonesysJourneys 2 жыл бұрын
Nice! It's always a balance between weight, durability and affordability isn't it. So far everything I own hasn't skipped a beat so would recommend any of it. 👌 haha... and as for the boots, just one foot after another. But I have recently purchased a set of Solomon's and they're a game changer, especially on the longer hikes and higher elevation scrambles.

Thanks Jonesy, great video! Your B-roll is on point! I didn't know about Mt Barney for a bushwalk... i'll keep it in mind if I'm ever up that way... it looked like a gorgeous walk! I used to be pretty freaked out by feral pigs and the stories I'd heard... but to be honest, in all the time I’ve been out in the bush solo (with very clear evidence of pigs nearby) if I've actually seen them they've run away quick smart! Your vids are getting better each time, thank for sharing!

Thanks for the kind words Amy! Stoked you liked the video. Funny story... I've been doing some research and what I thought were the sounds of a feral pig, were actually the mating call of a male Koala! So feeling pretty foolish, haha! But if you haven't heard them, look it up, it's actually a terrifying sound!

@@JonesysJourneys I have a PVC ground sheet which works ok but is no match for a pointy stick. The extra weight would be worth the reassurance that expensive air mattresses don't get punctured. I think ground sheets are a super under rated bit of kit. Ps. Glad to see another RHCP fanatic 🤘🏽

Outstanding. What an awesome looking swimming hole at the falls. I think I would have just HAD to have a swim, no matter how cold it was. 😆 Not sure if you seen my series of videos on my equipment but in one of them I show my sleeping gear. I'm using the "Denali" brand sleeping bags from Anaconda. Keep an eye out for the specials. I have one for summer which has a comfort rating of plus 10deg Celsius and one for winter with a comfort rating of minus 2 deg Celsius. The summer bag is about half the volume/bulk of the winter bag. Apart from a small portion of the foot pocket that I keep zipped up, I generally just use them as a quilt. Thanks for another great video. I'm definitely going to have to up my game with what an how I shoot things. 😀

Thanks mate! Haha yeah it would be awesome for a swim in the summer. A little cold at the time though. Nice, thanks for the advice on the sleeping bag. The biggest thing for me is weight and I've found the more pricey you go, the lighter it is. So I'll be saving my pennys for a sea to summit one I think..

Enjoyed your style of photography and video. Makes you feel like your at the waters edge. You get a nice feel for the area. Don't know how you're comfortable with a tarp, camping Open? Thanks Amanda! haha yeah, I do need to invest in a tent, but there's something about camping under a tarp or in a hammock. I love it! Also, turns out the wild pig noises were the mating calls of a male Koala!

@@JonesysJourneys with this cooler weather, a tent is more comfortable. At least the Alton tarp would shield the tent from rain/dew. That's a relief the sounds were koalas!

Nice video mate - thanks. I know this track very well, it's interesting to see it from another's perspective. Looks like you have a pretty good bivvy set-up. All my times in Barney NP I've never seen a koala - good to know they're around. I did see a platypus once a few years ago, in Barney Ck (other side of the mountain).

Thank you! It's a great track, everything in Mt Barney NP is nice actually. Yeah I was pretty stoked to see the Koala, it was a first for me. Wow, a platypus, now that's a rare find! I've been around that side before to lower portals etc, so will have to keep a keen eye out next time I'm there! 👌

@@JonesysJourneys Yeah I agree, it's my favourite NP in SE Qld. There is a beautiful remote campsite I can highly recommend at Ballow Ck junction, and another at a spot called 'T Junction'. Both a long way upstream from Upper Portals, platypus was up there. I haven't visited Cronan Ck falls yet - your video reminded me about it, I'll def. go sometime this summer. BTW - that same magpie hit me one time, too! ha ha Cheers mate (sub'ed)

Nice video mate. I’m actually pretty sure those pig noises you were hearing were the koalas believe it or not. Camped a bunch of times in northern D’Aguilar over the years always thinking the grunts were bush pigs or something sinister. Nope, turns out it was koalas. 😄
@JonesysJourneys

Great video. Which car park did to park at? Is it accessible to 2wd? Do you use any tracking app to record your walks? I want to fit some of these bush camps but never now where to start or what’s accessible to 2wds Thanks
@JonesysJourneys
@JonesysJourneys 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Stuart! I can't remember exactly what carpark I started at, but it's the park used to access all of the Mt Barney summit tracks and it is 2wd accessible. I use an app called Gaia GPS to research and record all my hikes, it does the Job for me. There's a bunch of other resources that you can use as well such as aussie bush walking, all trails just to name a few. A great starting point is the national parks website, from there you can get a heap of info on hike difficulty, nearby campsites, and tail head access. 👌

Hi Jonesy, great video mate. Just wondering what boots you have on in the video, and if you find them comfortable on long hikes? My Solomon’s are about to die after many many years of loyal service and I am consider change to a more classic boot.
@JonesysJourneys
@JonesysJourneys 2 жыл бұрын
They're the blundstone 500 series. They're ok on longer hikes, although I initially purchased them as a camp boot but hiked in them because it's what I had. I have just recently purchased a pair of Solomon's and have hiked a few times in them and they're much lighter, grippy and comfortable. Having said that, I can't really fault the blundatones, they're a great all round boot, but the Solomon's are made for hiking.
