Overnight Stopover at Scarborough Seafront in my VW T6. My first free stopover in my new van. I was surprised to see how many motorhomes and campervans were there this time of year. Great beach park up.

Them swimming may be the sons of Neptune. They started back in the 80s with a bunch of solicitors plus who ever else wanted to join in. I dare say by now the group has changed beyond all recognition with regards to members and name but they would swim every morning of the year. Not sure how they can be called members in those temperatures but I digress. Maybe do a piece on the Sea Life centre currently occupying a building that Dad worked on back in the 60s. (I say worked on, if leaning on a shovel is work) but that place has a long history.

I get the point about members, young uns would put a 'LOL' in there, our dad did work on the Scalby Mills development, flattening monkey island and building the car park, shops, cafe, pub and Corrigan's amusement archade where I worked for two summers, 1966 and 67.

As there's more motor homes and touring caravans being sold, the councils need to accommodate them instead of putting barriers on car parks, if people pay there car parking fees the council gets some money, people have to park up on the roadside the council gets nothing, lift the barriers on the car parks and make some money.... It shouldn't matter too much if they are sleeping in it overnight...

As this man is saying there must be a 100, parked up there overnight, and the council is getting nothing.. Let them go in the car parks at the end of the year, it's money for the council nobody is using the car parks overnight...

The barriers are there to stop the travelling folk camping up for a week who won’t pay, but usually leave lots of rubbish behind which costs councils a fortune in clean up and eviction fees.

I wish I knew about that area when I van camped in Scarborough recently. I wondered where everybody was & ended up camping on a street up by the church, near the castle. The next day I camped in a car park next to Plantation Hill, but I had no problems in either place.

Hi, it's free to park there in the winter months ( I'll check what the signs say and put it here ) another free stop is the old road from Filey to Scarborough at Cayton bay, there are one or two motor homes there now. Marine drive signs say, from 1st March to 31st October pay and display.

Yea but😊 They loose out on the CONtax so spend OUR money on Yellow Paint, Cameras, ULEZ Signs whilst road PATCHING are sub contracted DOWN to sub standard REPAIRS with the bulk of OUR money going to the main contractors WEALTH FUND with favours going to those that awarded them the contracts in the first place. Mone Mone types. Called Fraud if the public does it ! but business if they (Government etc) do !

QUESTION,,, if you get popped up in the van can the cops still do you even though you are parked up for the night/day?

People are obviously camping, some poptops are up and a lot of the motorhomes have levelling chocks in place and so far I haven't heard of anyone being in trouble, but the free parking ends in three weeks and the motorhomes are already thinning out.

Think once I cycled past there and counted over 200 vans/motorhomes. It’s crazy as they park nose to tail and take 3 spaces and the cars cannot park anywhere. They need to start charging or provide somewhere for them to go but would they because they get the views

Agreed, I have no problem with campers being there but it's inconsiderate to park nose to tail if your van fits length ways.

Keeping it as short as I can Neil, my step daughter and her husband got a motorhome about three years ago and she asked if I wanted to join them sometimes, I wasn't going to drive from one end of he country to the other and sleep in my car so she suggested I get a camper, I watched countless videos on KZbin and thought why not it looks like a great life, seeing new places and meeting new friends. I'm retired and have the time to do it, I won't let age get in the way.
