The six berth compartment is booked out for the sole use of one group, of 1 to 6 people, so it can be for the sole use of a couple. Although it doesn't have a washbasin, it had the great advantage (to some of us!) of having two bottom bunks so no clambering up ladders. It was also significantly cheaper when we booked, tho VY operate smart pricing.

I should mention that both Bergen and Oslo has hotels with a shower + breakfast deal. You essentially show them your ticket and they give you access to the breakfast buffet and the gym showers for a lower price. It's worth knowing about, even if it isn't your cup of tea.

Thanks for this detailed video! Very helpful in planning my own trip :) one thing though, a six-person more rudimentary compartment (where you have to make the beds yourself, and there’s no wash basin) is known as a couchette whereas only the 2 (sometimes 4) person compartment with beds made, a washbasin/bathroom is known as a sleeper car/compartment

Thank you very much for making this video. Before we saw it, we were considering making the return trip from Bergen to Oslo via train or car or plane. Now we are decided, we will get the train after watching your video. We are 2 adults and 2 15-year-old girls. We don't know whether we should hire 2 two bed units or a 6 berth unit? Thanks again

Glad our video was helpful. As for which size berth to get, keep in mind that the 2-person ones are very tight so you might want to get the 6-berth one for all four of you. The toilet is down the hall in any case so that won't be an issue. It kind of gets down to how much you value your own privacy, and theirs.

Nice video, but on your next video make sure you give some serious time to the regular seats, so people have a way to compare to the different options.

Following your intriguing video about the overnight train journey from Bergen to Oslo, I'm curious: What were the highlights of the experience, and would you recommend it as a worthwhile option for travelers? Do you share your experiences or insights on Instagram? I'd love to follow along and learn more.

Hi and thanks for commenting. Since it was an overnight train we weren't able to experience what is supposed to be the most beautiful train ride in Norway. However, I'd have to say the highlight of this journey was primarily the comfort of the bed and the pleasant rocking of the coach as it moved along. Plus, it was clean. We love riding overnight trains so it was a great for us. However, it may not be a worthwhile option for everyone. Riding the route in the daytime would be beautiful and flying would be quicker. So far, we don't post on Instagram but thank you for the suggestion. Best wishes, Jay
