Spain won the contract to build HSR in Saudi Arabia. then they found they didn't know how to lay tracks in the desert. they had to sub-contract it out to China to finish the project. none of the other builders has experience building in desert.

@@willengel2458 Yes, & in their report on the project they never mentioned China but only highlighted the nice stations built by Spanish & other EU partners. China finally came out with its own report on how desert railway tracks were designed & installed by Chinese workers.

Having design and build such extensive railways systems in China and overseas it is smart to award this Dubai railway contract to China. Should be an easy peesy job.

Spain won the contract to build HSR in Saudi Arabia. they had to sub-contract the railroad building to China because they did not have the experience laying tracks in the desert. i suspect none of the other bidders have the experience either.

@willengel2458 Yes...for specialized jobs not commonly done in the industry it is smarter to award these projects to contractors who had done them before. They will have the learned knowledge, experience and special jigs and equipment to complete these jobs with the necessary profits and in time. Another specialized project done by China is the high altitude Tibetan railways lying on permafrost.
