36:40 I love how that single Soviet soldier is just firing his DP like a maniac at the German company right in front of him and the Germans are just calmly taking it

Hindsight is 20/20 and all that, but... I do have to question the wisdom of putting your most powerful and longest-ranged AT weapons up front without infantry screens. Excellent content though, this was a very, very intense battle.
@madigorfkgoogle93493 ай бұрын
I agree with you, also usually the smaller AT guns were placed in front of larger guns like 8.8cm. Penetration ability is dropping with distance so you want your weaker guns being placed closer to attacking tanks and your bigger guns assisting from rear. But I think the idea here was that he would actually attack and since you cannot move 8.8cm guns in the game, he wanted to have them as far forward as possible.
@berrymcockiner39062 ай бұрын
I agree
@Tonci872 ай бұрын
The idea was to use the guns as a base of fire for an attack. They can‘t be moved during the battle and deploying them there was the only option to use them offensively due to the slope. I was very suprised to see so many enemy tanks and the plan immediately fell apart
@Ripulintuoja2 ай бұрын
@@Tonci87 Ah, I didn't think about the slope being an issue. Even so, I did feel nervous the moment I saw those guns so far up front and the video title gave me a fairly good idea of what might happen next. The thing is, the darkness means that individual parts of your line can be hit and overwhelmed by the enemy before you notice them approach or have time to call in either flares or fire support. In the previous battle you managed to stay ahead of that and coordinate flares to where they were needed, while the enemy was unable to locate and eliminate your fire support assets, so they got chewed up bad. Your plan did make sense, but it did also depend on pushing incredibly valuable assets up front. Very risky and it would have required you to push up very quickly and aggressively to protect the 88s. But I have to agree, seeing that many heavy tanks up front is surprising. Anyway, I hope I'm not second guessing you too much, I'm just enjoying this series so much I enjoy thinking about it.

I have high hopes about the flamethrower plan, when I played the Cold Spring campaign as the Soviets one of my tanks was hit by a German flamethrower and the ammunition almost immediately detonated.

Man the sound design of this game is unreal, the sound the shells made when they ricocheted from the tanks is incredible and the guns sound so good too. I also love the tracers for the MGs and the effect the flares have in the game. You might also consider positioning your troops 4-5 squares away from the frontline from now own and in night battles have the mortars fire the star shells right away so you don't get caught with your pants down (only put yoy troops close to tge frontlines when you are considering doing and ambush of sorts and etcetera)

I’d say it’s a enormous blunder to Position your 88’s right up at the front. They have the power to penetrate even KV’s from a good distance. And if your entire existence is banking on those 88’s not getting whacked then you ought to *not* position them in the line of fire Also if ninja Soviets are harassing your men by popping on top of them maybe leave a good bit of distance between your lines and the soviet lines when deploying? Then they should be able to spot them before they’re behind your lines 😅

To be honest the K.Gr.Rot.Pz. shell's muzzle velocity from the StuK 37 L/24 and especially the LeIG 18's L/11.2 gun is miserable, under 400m/s from the former (and probably even worse from the latter) with a penetration of 48mm at 1000m vs 90 degree plate, and 38mm at 2000m where it begins to have similar performance to the 5cm L/60 guns. They stuffed that shell into every available cartridge to provide some small measure of anti-armour performance to guns which otherwise had none (and some which had no business firing it), I vaguely remember reading reports that the projectiles were pulled from their cases to provide crews of M3 Lee/Grant tanks an AP round for the 75mm gun as none had been issued, I wonder how it they got on with it. I appreciate the desperate situation but having the assault guns in reseve to rapidly blunt unexpected infantry advances will pay better dividends than getting them into a sticky situation slugging it out with vehicles better suited to fire back at them, I can't discount the possibility of a lucky shot making all the difference though- the 10.5cm AP shells seem pretty miserable looking statistics-wise and you don't get many but evidently they have sufficient mass to punch spalling into the crew compartment or blow wheels and track off if they detonate outside the vehicle and they scored critical lucky hits on vehicles threatening to overrun the guns in previous engagements. Advance with caution, but I trust in your ability to analyse the threat at hand with previous experiences under your belt and respond to it appropriately better than I could.

@@Tonci87 Yeah I can understand the desperation, if it's any blessing previous mixed tank groups have been arriving with BT-5RTs as the command tanks, and two of those have been destroyed in previous engagements so they might be running without duplex radios

to avoid the foxhole ninja raiders you have to avoid deploying so close along the front, leave a bigger gray zone. there's a 2-3 minute period of the start where troops/tanks are "blind" i don't know why but it seems intentional from dev for whatever reason. if your foxholes are within range of an enemy AI's defend orders they will actually teleport directly into your fighting positions at mission start. deploy 200-300meters away from the edge of your controlled zone. consider the contact line as under rifle fire control rather than where you've already dug in.

I do wonder how well artillery strikes would work agenst armour. Know that in the early war, artillery was one of the main ways to deal with armour, tho I am not 100% sure on the spesiffics, if it was used only agenst any infantry support, or to deal with the armour dirrectly.
@pp-wo1sd3 ай бұрын
Not very , you need a direct hit , almost impossible to do if the tank is moving . You really need to track it first and then drop a load of shells on it (50+ shell fire missions) preferably with 150mm+ caliber guns . Also you must use immidiate fuse else the round will just bounce off
@sindreherstad87393 ай бұрын
@@pp-wo1sd That seems fair enough. I guess using it to stop any infantry support would be the best usage of arty, leaving the unsupported and more blind. Would arty be able to supress/stress/affect the morale of the tank?
@pp-wo1sd3 ай бұрын
@@sindreherstad8739 Yes , it lowers their morale and can cause them to retreat . I am not 100% sure , but it might be able to damage their sights aswell . When you have a tank or AT gun presence , the enemy tanks often either slow down or stop to engage , making it possible to shell them effectively . I noticed slightly lower cassulties in battles I dropped arty on enemy tanks , I guess the dust it kicks up lowers their accuracy .
