Good tip, but pan your sounds to the left and right rather than keeping everything in the centre, makes space if you don't have PRO Q or any dynamic eq like Pro Q
@hareeshs863 жыл бұрын

I got mix ocd. I’ll have a clean ass mix and spend another 20 hours fixing it, only to go back to the old version and be like “ah. Perfect….sick. Wait, fuck.” Like, it’ll get cleaned. To the point where, there are no clashing frequencies. At all. Ever. Just, automated band passes nd shit. The quest for absolute perfection. Cuz like, in theory, it’s possible. But, in application, it just sounds like everything is missing something but, nothing is lacking. Like, it’s confusing. I think that the whole perfect mix is mainly hard due to compression and perceived loudness. There’s some wacky shit that happens when you over clean something. For starters, you will have a seemingly balanced sounding mix but, it’ll look absolute chaotic in a frequency analyzer. Just dips nd shit everywhere. Even after tryna master that shit, it’s still fucked. (Of course, for drums, I kinda rely on sidechain to avoid a ton of clashing so, usually they are just scooped in the 500 to whatever. Just so they still sound good in the mix. But, yeah. Like, I’ve chilled tf out in my mixing. From what I’ve found is, the cleanest way to get a sicc mix is to cut to the fundamental. Than, nearly brick wall the fundamental with a mb compressor if it’s below like 600. The lower, the more aggressive the comp. in drops, 300 ish can be comepd/ eq’d out a little more, if you wanna be virtual riot or something. Tho, I’m not a huge fan of vr’s mix-downs and tend to try and match au5, flume or noisia’s (depending on the track.). They are a little less agro with the 300 cut. Flumes are like, odd af most of the time and vary heavily depending on the track. So, keep that in mind. Au5’s is a safer mix reff since they are always somewhat similar. And noisia is good for that specific genre with minimal distorted basses. Cuz like, the second a semi generic supersaw or something joins the game, the low mid’s phase says gg. Which like, you could aggressively cut the ever living ass out of the low end of a supersaw or something and replace the low end with a single midbass. Which works. But, it just doesn’t sound right, if the whole song is more melodic, and the melodic bit isn’t just a fill or something. So Yee. Also, like d-essing the master is op. On a similar note, automating the master chain is also op. Pre masters are even more op for bass chains nd whatever. And sound selection. My god. That’s such an overly talked about yet over looked factor. Like, I have a sound in a drop that I love. But, the sound itself is hella wide. Cuz, I initially made it to be a top layer but, it slowly morphed into the main bass. I have probably spent more time trying to get it to work that I would have spent making the drop over again. And I already consolidated it, so the portal chain I used is in an old, laggy af version of the song. In this instance, I have tried to mb-sidechain it into the song. But, even that doesn’t give it that font and centre punch I wish it had. I have tried layering it but, it loses the magic that the actual sound has. Even the sound, by itself, with the drums and sub isn’t cutting it. And frequency shifting, distortion, parallel chains out the wazoo, fuking everything. Matching the sub ti the progression. Transients. Lp’d kick transients to make the sub sound punchy. Sometimes the sound has to die for the track to survive. And, I think a lot of times, a poor sound makes the whole ass mix sound messy. When, in reality, identifying a few weak sounds and replacing em is all the track really needed. Ight. This was a tangential ass comment. But, I guess that’s how I currently see messy mixes atm. Will come back in a year to see how wrong I was.
@jacksonlaframboise62572 жыл бұрын
Naw. I just didn’t know how to set parameters on a multi-band compressor, the importance of proper drums, and was not eqing aggressively enough. My ocd was justified. Cuz my mixes 2 months ago are inconsistent. Now I’m free to choose weirder sounds because, I know how to tame them. Eyyyy
