Overseeding an existing lawn uk and topdressing with soil before and after, this is a lawn we renovated in Belfast. There was some leatherjacket damage and the lawn was tired and worn and needed to be rejuvenated and restored. Follow these lawn renovation steps for the perfect lawn.
I will be covering how to;
We aerated it to relieve compaction and remove thatch
Carried out scarification to remove moss and thatch and create a seedbed
Overseeded it with barenbrug grass seed
Topdressed the lawn with soil
Brushed the soil in and fed it with a Pre Seeder fertiliser.

Keep up the good work Robbie. I've used your tips and techniques since May this year after moving into a 70's built house April 19 where the previous owner was too old to do any maintenance. Last winter left me with a Moss bed lawn covered in weeds. I wish I could upload photos to show you difference in my lawn now after finally reseeding last month ( just as we had 10 days of hot sun and no rain meaning watering 5 times a day lol ).

Great video Robbie, I have one question for you. My front north facing garden has maybe only 20% of grass left after removing the moss. I used a solution of iron sulphate which may have been a mistake. How long should I wait before reseeding, I have also put a layer of compost down as the the ground is wet clay with little organic matter.

Hi Robbie I've just completed scarifying and aerating my front and rear lawns using a rake and fork as both are pretty small. Both were pretty water logged a few bare patches in rear lawn. Should I proceed with over seeding even with this cold spell coming over the Easter holidays. Enjoying your videos good to have a local lawn expert who understands our climate and weather.

Great videos Robbie. Section of my lawn has been destroyed by builders working over winter - very compacted and basically turned to mud. I’ve racked off debris and hand forked the entire section, my next plan was to over seed and top dress with soil. Hoping the seed/soil would go into the forked holes. Questions I have is 1) would you avoid or encourage walking over the top dressing as you’re doing it? 2) am I missing anything (would obvs water) for grass to come back. Wasn’t planning on fertiliser as grass was never pristine anyway with 2 young boys, just want actual grass back rather than large muddy patch. Final question I’m in N.Yorkshire so about 8-10c fcst here the next few weeks. Should I wait a while with it aerated by the fork before seeding or crack on with that now. Appreciate any help you can offer cheers Bri

Excellent video. I love your channel and the tips are golden. I've recently(2.5 weeks ago) done a similar process to my lawn: sacrify, top dressing (with top dressing mix containing sand) and overseed. Unfortunately after I used it, i realised that the fertilizer had the wrong concentration, it is a 25-0-5. Is there any chance to balance that now to help out the new seed? Thanks and keep it up. BIG LIKE!!!!

I’ve taken on a badly neglected lawn this year and following your tips I’ve reseeded and over seeded sections in early sept. Some areas are not level so I’d like to build them up to make mowing the edges easier. Is it possible to continue with this during winter or should I back off and re-start after the winter?

@@Premier_lawns_official that doesn’t sound right - I am a Garden Machinery dealer selling EGO, among other brands like husqy and echo, and energizer. Ego have by far the best warranty system- if a customer walks back in with a problem with a battery for example, we swap it out and claim it back, for machines we either fix or swap, very easy sorted. Would have to say by my own experience selling and going through all the brands, egos machine truly perform like petrol, something other brands like Milwaukee simply can’t match. We do use Milwaukee in the workshops though, probably where they belong, not out on the garden lol.

Yes there is a risk, though the seed is under the soil and the fertiliser is on top of the soil and the client waters the lawn that night.. In a perfect world we might do it differently.

Can I ask a question- I have my lawn scarified, by a well known lawn treatment company every year, they get lots of thatch out every year but every year it’s still as thick why is that? I thought having had it done for the last 5 years in would now be at a reduced level.
@Premier_lawns_official
@Premier_lawns_official 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the type of grass, how much compaction levels, what its being fed with, some of the treatment companies use a lot of high nitrogen based products as it makes there grass very green, this in itself can create a lot of thatch.

Hi, I lay a new lawn in June through seed, it’s 30m * 15m so a decent size area. It’s wasn’t ideal weather as it was hot however through a lot of watering it did establish. It is to be used as my sons football pitch and currently some parts of it is are very uneven. My plan is to level it, using soil only. I’m unsure when I apply the seed. Previously I’ve always found that the seed works best when there’s been soil put on top of it. So do I put it in with the top soil when I level it or do I level, roll, seed then roll again to ensure good contact with the soil?

It does have some patches where the seed didn’t come through hence why I want to overseed. There are also brown areas of grass, long story, but I think Theo is because I let the grass get way too long before it’s first cut. That’s why I was thinking of scarifying it? Do you think I should just level and overseed for now then? Maybe take/scarify in March/April?
