This war actually has the second lowest casualty count of any war, only beaten by Liechtenstein’s war against Austria, where they in fact gained a soldier

not really correct. Liechtenstein went to defend an area that was never attacked, and returned with 3 liasons, one of whom were a liechtensteiner who worked for Austria (which is why it is said they gained 1)

I grew up in that area. Fort Vancouver is still there, as a tourist attraction. What they don't talk about in the video here is Point Roberts. On the map where they show the green islands that are in question, look to the north. There's a tiny peninsula that just barely pokes south of the line. So it's technically American, but there are no roads to the rest of America. It's still like that, now. Kids have to cross the Canadian border by bus to get to school every day. It's very silly.

Being from the area, I've always been fond of stories related to The Pig War. I'm currently living in Bellingham, just a few blocks away from Pickett's old house, and I love going whale watching in the San Juan Islands every summer. The British and American camps are still there on the big island, and make for an entertaining day hike.

They kind of glossed over the Louisiana Purchase toward the beginning of the video, but I'm always reminded of a Family Guy joke about it. "Come on, guys! We're getting Oklahoma, Wyoming, Arkansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, North Dakota, South Dakota and Louisiana. What are the chances all those states suck?" 🤣🤣

Your a gem among reactions on KZbin. Lol. I can see your not just watching your trying to obsorb everything for the history. But at the same time you relax enough during the funny bits to react. And you don't pause much. You give commentary where you need to. Love it.

Most Americans don't know about this war. I went to the islands as a part of my honeymoon. It is the only thing of note that ever happened on that island. We saw a one man show with a man playing general Pickett. It was hilarious.

I feel like the reason Germany made the decision was because they didn't have a stake in it and both British and Americans had to persuade them to vote in their favor. But I am willing to accept that I'm wrong on this if someone who knows the answer is willing to correct me. (That's not a challenge, I'm literally asking for a correct answer if I'm wrong...or at least not entirely correct).

In 1859, Harney and Pickett knew that tensions between North and South had never been higher and a civil war was likely. They thought they could stave off that tragedy by uniting all Americans against a foreign enemy, and the British were the perfect candidate for that since we'd already fought two wars with them in the previous 80 years. They failed, and it's probably good they did because the civil war was kind of necessary to end slavery and make America a more unified country capable of facing the challenges of the 20th Century.

About the Fenians, my history prof likes to describe it this way: After the US Civil War, these are drunk Irish Nationslist veterans who wanted to invade Canada, and hold it ransom for Irish independence. Keep in mind, Britain did not want to go to war with USA still, and was kind of willing to just let Canada fall. Fenians have made small raids along the Canadian border, which showed weakness and gaps to a divided Canada. This, along with a weakening economy unless they had other BNA Territories to join Canada to expand trade by railroad helped propel Canada into forming its own nation in 1867.

Fun Fact: Hornby at this time was 34, but this incident did skyrocket him in rank by quite a bit. He had seen his first combat at war with the Ottoman Empire at 15 years old, so he had definetly seen war, but generally just wasn't that into blowing up Americans on disputed territory, by the orders of a Medium tier Governor... Like this wasn't even the person who was Governor General of Canada, it was just some Lieutenant Governor. But yeah he did also end up being Admiral of the Fleet later on in his career (effectively the supreme commander of the entire Royal Navy). His dad was also a Admiral up until a few years before this (Rear Admiral) being honorarily promoted full Admiral in 1858. He also fought with Lord Nelson at the battle of Lissa in the Napoleonic wars. His Son would also go on to be a Army General and even receieve the Victoria's Cross in 1900, and was a brigadier General of the Artillery up until 1918. So yeah its safe to say that Hornby wasn't just some random person, but a person who came from a Aristocratic Military Family, so he was probably one of the best people you could've put in that position.

Oversimplified American revolution, American civil war, French revolution, Napoleonic wars and Russian revolution are all great videos. If you react to them I would suggest reacting to them in that order. The American revolution made the American civil war possible, the French revolution gave Napoleon a chance to rise to power. Almost everything is linked in one way or another. You already reacted to world war 1 and world war 2 by oversimplified and world war 1 in a big way can be linked to the Russian revolution. Just like world war 1 also was the cause for world war 2 mainly because of the treaty of Versailles by the end of world war 1.

When you said why did you sign it you marshmallow what did you mean by that I think I know but could you tell me please. I think you meant because he's sign it is a marshmallow so I was thinking you were saying that that he was soft for signing the treaty. If I am wrong can you please let me know I would appreciate it

I'm not sure if this is what you mean but the sign said "then why'd you sign it you marshmallow?", so I think she was just reading it straight off the video. I think your reasoning behind the sentence might be right, but I doubt Alice would know the answer. Not sure if this helped :)

Waooo!!!....Congratulations my friend Alice!! ...I want invite you to give us your opinion, like music lover, reacting to who is considered the best singer of the world...His name is Dimash Kudaibergen, a young singer who handle 7 octaves and 3 semitones of vocal range (An alien)...He has been singing since he was 5 years (he is 28 now) and he can sing in more than 15 languages...But if you decide to react to Dimash for the first time, please don't do it with his most recent songs ... I recommend that you go to the year 2017 and react to the song that made him a global idol ... I mean the performance he did of the famous French song called "SOS D'un Terrien en Détresse", when he participated in the famous Chinese reality show The Singer in that year 2017 ... With that performance Dimash earned the reputation of being the best singer on the planet, so I recommend you start with that one...You have to be prepared because you are likely to receive a flood of views, comments and new subscribers....And I have to give you a warning: Never react to The World Best videos, because they deceived him and treated him very badly.!...I hope to see you first reaction soon and if you don't mind, I'd like you to mention me as the person who recommended reacting to Dimash....Here you have the best high quality video of Dimash performing S.O.S. Live 2017.....kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHW7ZHmeot6Bl8U
