I know of one demonic Mil, not here but the parrot story reminded me of it. This Mil hated her daughter so much that she would do things to try and mess with her mental state. the DIL and son didnt know she made copies of their house key and she'd go in and firts tamper with furniture and photos. One day the dil secretly set of cams and the first recording showed the Mil assaulting and killing her small dog. however, the two larger dogs they had saw what she did and it was instant karma. had it not been for the neighbors the Mil would have been killed by the large dogs. this woman was hospitalized for months and her face that she took pride in beauty products was never the same again. The mil did get into some serious trouble after she was released. I believ the Dil did press charges for her misdeeds.

MIL needed to be committed years ago. Her hatred of men ruined her life and she almost ruined her daughter's life as well. What happened in this woman's life that made her hate so all consuming, so manipulative and so insane. Hopefully being institutionalized will help her but...doubtful.

I knew right away that MIL was mentally ill. OP should have run away at the very beginning. The fact that her own daughter didn't realize there was something very wrong with her after the very first meeting after the way she treated OP's mother is very telling. She kept listening to a crazy woman who she at least knew was very hateful. OP was destined to have a rough life after marrying into that mess.

Sounds like after her daughter left her to side with op she let her hate stew and boil over to the point she went to attack op at his work place. She probably expected to ruin op and gain "revenge" for "taking" her daughter away but all she did was show that she's a psychopath and got in DEEP trouble with the law. Mil also sounds like a Karen and part narcissist. Yeah, to show up at the house to use sob stories, mil was trying to emotional blackmail her daughter to support her instead of op. But due to mil's stupidity she forgot that her daughter knew the truth and her tactic wouldn't work. Not surprised that then she tried to cry crocodile tears and whine about her age and so on try to get her daughter to take pity on her. Nor am i surprised that she got physical with her daughter when told none of her tactics are working and insults her daughter, definitely a narcissist. It's karma that she's now in a mental institution because now she'll attack anyone who's happy due to her jealousy, narcissists tend to nuke their own lives.

At restaurant, you should have let owner call cops and hurt girl should have pressed assault charges on MIL. (Court might have given her anger management, or a psych eval.) Also I'd have gone to counseling with wife, to help enlighten her with the truth about her mother. As I listened further, I see you did have a happy ending, but if charges were pressed against MIL, earlier, you both would have saved yourselves more time and trouble.

Was Mia like this as a child? Did her parents indulge her to the point of creating an entitled child? At the restaurant, the minute she slapped that girl, the police should have been called, and Mia charged with assault and battery. Or that girl should have stood up and slapped Mia into next week. Mia was lucky that the girl she slapped didn't seem to be in martial arts or self-defense. Things could have been worse for Mia if the girl had been into any sort of self-defense arts. It took Linda some time to actually see how poisonous her mother was and had always been. She grew up in that toxic environment, so only knew the hateful world her mother lived in. It wasn't until she met and married her husband that she was introduced to a world filled with love and peace. Mia didn't want her daughter or anyone else to have a peaceful life, so she tried poisoning Linda's marriage and break up the couple. The arguments they had were not seen for what they actually were, detoxifying Linda from years of being poisoned by her mother. Slowly, Linda began to see things from a nontoxic view, and finally saw her mother for what she was. Her mother was an entitled wacko. Mia was so far up the mentally unstable scale it wasn't funny, that's why she finally was put into a mental hospital. The day Linda agreed with her husband to bring charges against Mia was the day she was finally free of Mia's toxic life. And the beginning of a loving and peaceful life with her husband.
