We have a friend couple who make 3 times what myself and my husband make. We are the same age. We are retired, they are not. They want to but are scared to. We live in similar size homes, our home is a decade newer, we have several acres and they have a regular city lot. We also own recreational property, they "own" a timeshare. We have an older used boat, 4 wheelers, snowmobiles, travel trailer, and drive used vehicles, without loans. They drive 2 new vehicles with that have loans. As soon as one vehicle is paid off the other buys a new vehicle. We go camping on our vacations, they go to Hawaii, Vegas, Cruises, and to the timeshare 2000+ miles away. Our home was paid off 5 years before we retired. They just paid off their home by selling off shares of ESPP stock. They are the epitome of living large, we live much more humbly then they do, guess who worries about not having enough money all the time? Them.

As for the printer mistake, just cancel the subscription, buy new printer cartridges that are not attached to the subscription service, and you should get your printer to work again.. Lots of factors like where they live. I used to live in a modest 3 bedroom home but our taxes on our property was $900 a MONTH. Now we’re out in the country. Built a bigger home on 5 acres and our taxes are $600 a YEAR ! 😊

Iam from Germany One of the biggest luxury here is that a lot of you tax stress is nothing i can relate to. Your tax system is crazy. I mean we pay a f ton of taxes but that stress you americans seem to be under when its about the IRS is crazy

I also genuinely wonder what all these taxes actually go to…. Im norwegian, and yes, we pay a lot of tax, but i get near free healthcare and school and university is available to all. Also if you win the lottery here its tax free.

I would rather be responsible for storing away a smaller sum for the taxes than having a larger sum get cashed in automatically as in Germany. But each to their own, that's one of the reasons I moved away from Germany

If the girl that won the 100K put that money into an investment account, by the time she was 60 earning 6% she'd have 1000000.
@bitesizedtunes6783Ай бұрын
I don't agree with this remember investing at 6% is not a lot plus to only see the returns at age 60 is too much of a gamble most people won't wait that long or something unexpected happens it's best to invest it into a asset like real estate and let the investment be the source of her income. I don't agree with investments accounts there is much better and faster ways to double your investment at a reasonable amount of time that's just me I prefer to invest in myself start a business or join a business and get revenue that way.

yeah, I deserve a trip to Mykonos allright....but I also deserve to comfortably retire someday, so I skip the stress of travel/jetlag, enjoy a half-day of swimming and treatments at a thermal spa, and indulge at a greek restaurant on the way home. Thousands saved. Might not be as instagrammable as the vacation, of course.

I make six figures and would never spend $13 on a dang coffee. How you do something is how you do everything. The only time I go to Starbucks is when I’m so tired I don’t feel safe to drive and even then I feel defeated for spending $7 on a latte.

Personally I love Acorns for my non-retirement accounts.. I do $100 per week and do 10X roundups, it's the definition of passive investing. Also, people need to stop spending money on expensive coffee drinks, alcohol and vacations but no one wants to delay instant gratification.
@acausedelle1547Ай бұрын
Acorns has a lot of fine print to sift through. I had about $100 in there, forgot about it for 5 years. I expected to have maybe $150 in there when I opened it again. Nope! They started taking out money for inactivity so I had less than when I started! Yes it's a small sum of money but I can't stand by a company with dumb fees like that. A roth IRA account with automatic direct deposit from your work is better.

For 13 dollars I can buy enough coffee , flavored syrups and creamers and oat milk to make my coffee for at least 3 weeks, can probably get a reusable cup for it too. That's a ridiculous amount of money for coffee which has one of, if not the biggest mark ups in the food/retail industry. I know from experience that 1 single cup of coffee will pay for the entire pot, every other cup is profit.

I have a tenant who has a brand new Mercedes but struggles to pay his rent every month. He is almost 50 years old. His rent is only $1700 for a one bedroom but he has to pay on the 7th because of his pay days. His car payment is $740. He has no furniture in his apartment except his bed. In addition to his Mercedes, he has a nice, newer truck, an older model car and a an old boat. I asked him, "Why do you have to drive a new Mercedes if you really can't afford it?" He said, "Because I work hard for my money." $740 × 12 = $8,880 per year. $8,880 × 5 = $44,400. That's a down payment for a house. I am always bewildered by people who feel the need to impress people by driving fancy cars. It's much more impressive to own your home and drive a beat up old car that's reliable.
