Also think that the No Hesi servers and the traffic mods scene in general have contributed a lot to this growth. I had a lot a friends coming to my home and wanting to try the No Hesi challenges that would never sit on my rig otherwise, cause it's too difficult to get used to usually. 👍🏻

Yes so many big youtubers like Fanum, Coolkidfrmbx and Blackpantha are doing it and people are getting into it. I see them on my explore page and before I never used to see sim racing videos on my explore page on Instagram. Also the drift community is growing

All really valid points. I played GTSport on my kid's old PS, but just here and there. Around last Nov/Dec, I watched a few SuperGT vids, and the algorithm begins showing me AC stuff. Steam had AC on sale, I take the bait, and the rest is history.

Great vid! I agree wholeheartedly with your list of reasons, especially the broad applying example of a racing series' historic and beloved era in the late 90's BTCC stuff essentially supplied by the mod community; that is just crazy to think about. I have to also agree though with other comments below mine that the No Hesi and Drifting community may have even more to do with the recent growth. It seems that over the last six months, when you search KZbin for AC or AC mods by upload date, the amount of videos related to those two groups has been massively increasing. Those are not my bag but it's cool to see the broad love for the game. Pure and my new found use of Nvidia's DLDSR have once again made AC my go to game that I play literally everyday.

Yep Assetto Corsa is really the Great Sim. And really like you said, due to the online videos Like SirSpats ( he is the one I learned from ) and others how to install and configure the Sol and CSP front end for it then tweaking it for my liking has been a wonderful ride. The modders in a large way have really made AC what it is today. It plays well in online races too for the most part! I could go on and on but...thx for your post. Well done.

I know that I've been playing a lot of Assetto Corsa over ACC, RF2, and AMS2 because of Assetto Corsa Evoluzione. Incredible mod that adds the best single player sim racing experience I've ever had. The progression and structure of a Gran Turismo game with the modability, physics, and driving experience of Assetto Corsa? It's amazing how much a good career mode adds to a replayable and engaging single player experience. Multiplayer on SRP and other traffic servers is fun too. If Assetto Corsa had AI in multiplayer racing, I would probably play Automobilista 2 less.

The popularity spike lines up pretty well with the release of engine-crane :P Joking aside AC is so versatile and has been my go-to for years as there's always something new to try. I'm very thankful the development team had the foresight to make it so mod-friendly so it could get to where it is today; where we can all enjoy the amazing work of the modding community

eu4 is also a game from 2013 and it's incredibly popular. speaking as an outside observer who hasn't played assetto corsa in a while but watches racing sim content the No Hesi AI traffic dodging servers have been blowing up on youtube.

Quality of ripped content aside, Assetto Corsa has basically become an interactive encyclopedia of Motorsports and Automotive history. From the beginnings of the automobile with the 1886 Benz, to the present day high performance monsters in the ever-looming twilight of internal combustion. From the most renowned championship legends & bedroom poster icons, to forgotten also-ran racers and everyday mundane machinery. Honestly, it's almost easier to list manufacturers, disciplines & tracks _still absent_ from AC thanks to the efforts of the modding community.

On Top of all new Mods, we here in Germany can compete in the ADAC Digital Cup. Many new Teams joined for Winter Season 6 and Summer season 4 is already anounced. We use Actoracer Simulationrigs and from Home we use our own rigs to learn new tracks and the behavior of the car. For my self i joined AC in Dec 22. Since them i drove over 6000km at hime in the BMW 235i Racing.

Why not making AC better with updates? Because the modders do it themself and they would be angry if they made updates for the game because then they also have to update the tons of mods too.

I'm still playing it for vr. acc vr looks blurry at distance and requires a monster gpu to run properly. ams2 vr looks and run better but has some weired jagged geaphics on car dashboard and shadows. ac vr can run on a lower-spec pc, and if your pc has spare power you can crank up plugins to get fantastic graphics. also csp is keeping making the vr experience better buy adding new features like single pass post processing, etc.

People are posting videos and photos to TikTok and the in every case people be asking what game it is because of how good it looks. Surely the graphics is making the biggest shout for the game, but when they realise its a sim and then ask what a sim is, they get even more interested.

I play in VR and the menue makes it too much of a PIA to play. Also try setting a room up, forget it. No ASM2 has spoiled me with ease of access.

yeh... the modding for AC is just next level, it makes AC by far the most enjoyable racing game to play... while playing its almost too easy to forget what has been tweaked and changed, i could be having a race with AI and its incredible but i have to remember this is not the stock AI... the visuals with pure are stunning, it kind of pains me to know that people just dont know these mods exist or even if they do they avoid it because of fear its too complicated and if they do download it they probably miss most of what makes it truly amazing because... it is too complicated. When you find all the settings and actually push them, everything becomes pristine looking right down to minor details like just how darn clear the mirrors are or how the flames from the exhaust reflect off the underside of a spoiler, you can crank the reflection quality so high it could be mistaken for RT, fireworks reflecting off bodywork at night, colored shadows bouncing around the interior etc etc.... jeez its good, could go on forever about it. The rain fx make games like ACC look embarrassing, in fact the whole visual scope of ACC looks flat by comparison. The rain in AC is right up there with drive club... finally... after so long, how has it not been ripped off before ill never know. Then there is the handling, extended tyre physics etc etc, online is actually booming unlike most racing games, automobilista 2, raceroom, its all just dead so really we have no real choice in sim racing, we think we have many options but we really dont which is why everybody plays iracing. Rennsport looks promising for online play but i think the free to play model is going to turn a lot of players off, it all sounds great until each track costs £15 and then it dies a slow death, there are simply too many options which dont require the outlay in money, they do not have the luxury of being so early and one of the first like iracing so it just cant be done again i feel. I dont even think AC2 will be able to touch AC with modding on release, and it must have modding, without it the game will start looking like ACC which is looking dated and has nowhere to go without modding.

Also worries me that I may download something nasty on my PC. Moving from Xbox where you start the game and play, to PC with so many options is just mind melting 😁

Ac vs acc. AC has everything but getting into an online race isn't that straight forward and is focused a lot more on single player. Acc is gt3 and 4 only and is mostly focused on multiplayer races. Acc is very fun but if you are looking to get hooked in the multiplayer side, iracing is definitely the move.

IMHO it is because it is the only true cross platform unlimitted sim. ACC is also cross platform but Limited to GT3 and 4 racing. Fun too, but the most fun I had so far was ac mx5 racing :)

Great points. Its simply the most enjoyable sim on the market with the option drive almost any car you want. no other game has made me feel more justified to build a sim rig. But I can hear the comments now... AC sucks because no online ranking. I don't want to have to mod it to make it a good game. I can only assume they have never actually spent the time to set up the sim properly and join a discord group or league to race with. to me sim racing is all bout tinkering, setting up hardware and software similar to modding a real car to get the best performance. its not always about being the number 1 esports driver.

The base game is solid without mods the cars are great to drive, lets not forget it came out in 2014 made by a small team back then. Yes the community has kept it alive, no one disputes that. I'm not commenting about the base game, its what the game is now with mods that we all adore and have fun with.

@@JaredPaul01 it may be halfway decent with mods, but that’s not the game which we were all sold. That’s a modded version of it. You shouldn’t have to mod something for it to be playable. The base game is nearly unplayable. That’s like saying an amc gremlin is a great car because you can do a complete drivetrain swap on it to something that isn’t trash. The car is still trash, you just put an 800hp v8 in it.

@@BenFilley I think you just proved my point. You can't polish a turd. if it sucked we would not be talking about it in 2023, people love to mod AC because its a great base to work with. And now with all these modern titles (and old) with their expensive subscriptions and DLC. A lot of people don't want to keep handing over cash for titles that drive worse than a sim that you can have just as much fun with for very little money. I just don't see the argument of (it can only be judged on the base game) why? we don't judge iRacing on its first version, it was terrible. But now with it hundreds of updates its a pretty good sim. Updates and mods are the same thing. AC modders like Ilja Jusupov and Peter Boese, race sim studios etc. are just as talented as any dev working on modern titles today.

Of course we don’t judge something based on a first version when many more have come after it. Because they’re from the developer themselves. The game which you purchase from kunoz doesn’t suit me. I can’t be bothered to hunt down a thousand fixes to make something work the way it should have from the developer. Why would I even bother when the multiplayer has zero etiquette enforcement? If I wanted to deal with unfinished crap with shit multiplayer I’d play forza. If you want to play it that’s your right and doesn’t impact me one bit. But I’m not going to because I dislike the the game itself. No amount of praise from fanboys is going to change that.

Why is a ten year old sim growing while the newest sims are just treading water💧. Here's my top five. 1. Is value. The base game is extremely affordable. The game even without all the mod patches works. It demonstrates that eye candy doesn't make a sim desirable game play does. 2. Love ? The sim continues to expand because of the moders are driven by love ❤ of the sim not greed. Sure some of the more desirable add on are for sale. But for the most part at very reasonable prices. But even if you stick to the free stuff you can easily double the your content. 3. Three words, Tracks, tracks, and more tracks. Regardless of which class you enjoy most. You can find enough appropriate tracks to put together a season or a championship . 4. Want to run multi class no problem. Want to mix vintages again no problem. Few sims are as flexible as AC. 5. Can't afford the latest and greatest GPU no problem. Maybe not the best 5 reasons but I think good ones. PS: Sorry had to edit. 6. Most new sims , especially those which have annual editions are a total rip off. They usually have next to no new content. The same tracks, the same cars , maybe some new skins. But definitely a whole new set of bugs and future patches and DLCs to sell you. 7. Good news.... When I open up KZbin and see a new posting with a AC logo in the thumbnail. I know there's some good news to view. Any other logo thumbnail it's some new problem, or patch, or dlc they want me to buy. Basically potential bad news. Given the choice, I like good news.

Assetto Corsa can run decently on absolute potato PCs. Good DD wheel won't hurt but IMO there's not so much use of it on PS.

i really dont understand the fascination with original AC. the ffb is dog water, the physics are laughable, theres no etiquette enforcement etc. i get that you can mod the snot out of it. shouldnt have to mod a game for it to be any good though. the ONLY thing i enjoyed about it was that not everyone can use the "meta" car at the same time unless its a single make race. the glitch that turns everything grey is a joke too. theres only a hand full of games ive ever regretted spending money on, and AC is one of them.

(and often times well past its limit) because thats what i base my evaluation on. my personal experience of not only driving, but having gone to college for motorcycle engineering. ive spent more hours on a track in a high performance vehicle of one type or another than i could likely count. granted theres a difference between cars and bikes but the engineering of it is all the same. to me, it feels fake as hell. the tracks arent the problem, its how they interpreted the ffb and physics that turned me way off to it. it doesnt simulate downforce or the effect of torque well at all. it feels like the only "downforce" the devs ever felt was a miata with an ebay wang lol. they dont understand its like the hand of god pushing down on the car. its an incredible sensation at speed and to me, its poorly translated. ACC does it shockingly well, but thats also a better engine under the hood. and my concern with torque is likely directly related to the issue with downforce. its WAY too easy to spin tires. that could be down to the tire model too. and i pretty much exclusively drive in vr so i know my sense of speed isnt the issue, because i thought it was before i got into vr. ive TRIED to like AC. really i have. but everything just feels like its on ice to me.

So you are saying the main problem with ac is the outdated physics engine. Maybe they upgrade if/when a 2.0 version appears. Have not try ACC because of the limited vehicle numbers and types. Maybe i will give it a shot.

AC audience is 70% NOT sim racers. Sim racers play ACC or iRacing. AC players are mostly weebs who like playing that boring japan traffic sim, or do drifting because they cant race. The remaining 30% are sim racers who like exploring the other mods/historical cars/cars/tracks not available in other sims.
