I focused on this one day before, and threw great that day. As somebody with a hefty amount of ADHD, I haven't focused on this in a while because i forgot that it existed. Good stuff!! Thank you

Nice idea. It really builds on the "elbow to the face" concept that really helps me.

To supplement Mikey's lesson of creating space; I've noticed Josh's teachings helpful as well with a slight lean forward and slight bend of the knees created more space for me... When I remember to adjust posture on the tee pad

Notice how AB "throws" his LEFT elbow back on the wind up... and then snaps the elbow down and close to his torso when he unloads the windup. This left elbow move drives more twist into his upper body and maximizes the load up of the torsion spring of of his core. I just learned this a couple of months ago from doing Qigong stretches. Double G does a similar thing with his downward thrust of his left arm. More torso twist gives you a greater potential for rotational acceleration through the hit.

It could be a fluke, but I focused on doing this the last time I played and threw another 40 feet further than normal and I feel confident (based on how it felt) that this will improve over time. Thanks for the form tip!

Push it real good... got it. I know for sure I was not doing that. Thank you, Mikey. 👊

Loving the Mikey videos, great tip, thank you! on a scale of 1-10, how important is the crocs with socks combo while trying this drill?

Any recommendation to prevent injury during this. For me this Que is keeping my arm loose and does indeed work for distance. But my rear shoulder exposed and unprotected and has bothered me for almost 3 weeks

wondering about this myself. in what little drill practice i've been doing, it feels like retracting the shoulder blade during the forward swing extension, just after power pocket before release, should help accelerate the disc as compared to keeping the shoulder extended forward. same energy into a marginally shorter 'line of release'. not sure, not a scientist, and the timing of that shoulder blade engagement is trickier and trickier at faster throwing speeds. i threw out my shoulder on my second ever round of disc golf, presumably from horrible rounding and no awareness of form or mechanics, so it's something i've been gunshy about since [now over 10 years later]

I recall hearing Zach Nash talking about something similar to this when he was on the channel about the crazy spin he gets! This sounds simple, but I can see it giving me issues as well.

Similar cue i thought up while trying to keep my shoulder protracted, is to keep the disc as far away as possible. The power from the throw will undoubtedly pull the disc close to you, so your effort should go to resisting that ( resisting collapse ). So pushing it out, keeping tricep tension. Let the disc travel along the line that is farthest away from your chest.

I find keeping the disc away from me helps with timing and “the snap” but I steer away from it because everyone says keep the disc close to you. To your point, I find the correct spot during the throw regardless. I’ll look into it

I’ve seen that wall drill before. If you came up with it on your own, good job, but it has been out there a while.

Be careful with this. I think protracting your shoulder purposely all the way through the throw will end up putting extra stress on your rotator cuff, and take away the effectiveness of larger muscles, like your back muscles. I had been protracting while throwing, and now I have pain and have to do shoulder strength training.

Yeah I’m having pain too. The protract que kinda helps keep my arm loose which gets me distance but I want to learn how to keep arm lose while protecting my muscles. I know warmup and stretching is crucial.

Do you have issues with rounding? I’ve noticed that I had to address that prior to working on this idea for the same reasons
@shanaman239 күн бұрын
@@SeaBear161 No, and tbh I'm not even sure if protracting my shoulder during my throw caused the issues I'm having. I think I *did* notice my throws improved once I started protracting. There are 2 other events I *could* point back to and blame the shoulder pain on, but also nothing was happening until after I started protracting. that's why I say be careful I guess, cause I'm not 100% sure. I know chatgpt isn't perfect, but it's told me throwing with a protracted shoulder can lead to potential: impingement, labral tears, rotator cuff strain/injury (protraction reduces the RC muscles' mechanical advantage, forcing them to work harder than they should), poor scapular positioning, strain on adjacent muscles (pecs/delts/traps/rhomboids/neck muscles).
