Love the progression and the mindset. Willingness to go back a step is a big deal. Great video!

Lot of good things in this video. The specific cues here worked for me a million times better than previous videos I've seen. That said, here is what I found interesting: 1) Rotating the disc to where it's upside down at peak reachback, and then upright like a fan by the time the disc is either at or through the power pocket, basically prevents the disc from coming up during the backswing. So the body's levers and hinges make the swoop impossible. This makes it easier to transition into a briefcase grip. 2) Kevin couldn't feel whether or not a disc was released nose up or down. This seems to be a common and confounding issue for a lot of people. Maybe next to everyone with a nose up problem. 3) The primer on what the disc does when it hits a surface like a net or screen is great at helping people see whether or not they were nose down or up, hyzer or anhyzer, was like a cheat code. You can tell whether or not you were successful before the Tech Disc announces, and it should be helpful on the course if you can see what the disc does in the air just after release.

Grip. After 6 years I finally felt a back loaded grip last round out. Instantly more nose down. Ooph. What a game changer. From now on when I introduce beginners to the game I will recommend holding the disc without using the thumb or index finger. One aspect of the game we don’t talk about nearly enough is differences between hand size and structure. For me to use a backloaded grip my index finger barely makes it over the edge of the rim, similar to my putting grip. It’s impossible for me to use a four finger power grip AND keep it back loaded.

Only way I ever got the nose down was by using backloaded grip and not tucking the index finger under the rim. Only pinching between the knuckle. I believe that some people have different hand and wrist ROM (structural, not flexibility). Hooking the index under the rim forced the nose up at the end of the throw no matter what. Filmed in ultra slow motion to confirm it before I changed grip. Perfect form, perfect power pocket, perfect extension....boom nose up AFTER the hit as it pivoted out of the hand. Started with my thumb and index finger off the disc to see the nose down on tech disc. added back the thumb with light pressure. added the pinch on the index light pressure.

Could we eventually see him in the field to see how the flight has changed for a full flight? I will definitely be doing this for my off season drills.

I would LOVE to see you guys do a study on technique of someone like Isaac Robinson. Isaac seems to use a different technique to get nose down. You can release it already nose down the way they are teaching in this video or you flip the disc to nose down the way Isaac does. It seems like many of his throws come out nose up, but then flip to a nose down angle about 10-15'ft after he has released it. He is using a finger flip right at release to use the gyroscopic precession aided by the finger flip get it to. Isaac uses a short stabby motion with an upward finger flip right at the point of release. If you can imagine the discs travel direction being at 12 o'clock direction and right at the point of release his hand in approximately at the 3 o'clock position, he flips the 3 o'clock edge of the disc upward right at release. Gyroscopic precession makes that actually take effect at the 6 o'clock position to raise the rear disc, but it takes about 10-15ft of travel AFTER he has already released it for the rear of the disc to raise into final position. Isaac's discs have a very pronounced upward direction of travel with a nose up attitude right at release, but the flip is so strong that after rising 5 to 6ft , that the rear kicks upward and makes the disc start traveling flat and immediately lose the upward momentum. It almost looks like isaacs throws come up 15 degrees upward, but then the forceful nose drop/tail raise make is sharply flatten out.

I’ve studied Isaac’s move. He is super late with the supination and external shoulder rotation. So though it is a smaller move and happens in a much much shorter timeframe he is still doing the same thing.

Seriously you have helped me so much it's amazing. I still suck, but getting better every few months I can look back and see the progress. Slowly but surely.

I think Niklas Antilla does the same thing in reverse. Niklas starts with his arm supinated or nose down then lets the disc fall back towards a neutral nose angle. If any of your students struggle with turning the key (like I did) they might want to try the Niklas Antilla way it worked great for me.

I think part of the reason I became a 95% forehand player is because nose angle is so much easier to manipulate in that swing. Now I am going back and trying to become a more balanced player.

I just got a tech disc last week (I used your link) and essentially went through this same lesson based off some of your previous videos. I saw some real world differences in my game on the course this week with 30-50ft longer drives and much easier distance especially at shorter upshots. Will you do something more on speed training?

Keeps his head down, doesn't open his chest. Form has good bones and now the nose angle is calibrating at 8 min in.

Based off the intro nose angle, and first two throws at higher launch angle, I'm starting to question if you even need to turn a key because it was getting there slowly. I'm thinking maybe there is an ideal launch angle that just gets the disc at the right angle. I totally understand the confusion of flipping the disc over when holding the disc normally. My brain went "it's already flipped."
