It may sound crazy but what relaxes me the most my tedious monotinous chores Everyday I always start my day making coffee, then putting away the dishes from the dishwasher the night before, then making breakfast for the kids all while listening to music with my headphones on. It pumps me up before work or gym time.

best fucking video I've ever seen, this factor is key to build muscle, no matter how many protein shakes you take a day, building muscle requires you to be on the parasympathetic side, on the rest and digest mode in order to produce testosterone, build muscle through growth hormone released only when you are calmed and relaxed while you sleep with a peaceful mind.

Last thing what people think to get more gains and recover faster is to read book, but it's actually true. We just think it's that ''recovery drink''. Recovery is much about mental stuff too, not JUST getting enough calories.

I have days where i feel like total crap (usually those days where i don't get at least 7 hours of sleep)...I have Track practice 5/w mon-fri (usually 2-3 hard days & 2 easy/med days) then 5 days where i lift (Sat/Sun Tues/Wed and fri after practice)...How can i balance all that out and continue keeping good grades and getting sleep...I did a decent job of it the last 2 months but i have no time for anything else. I feel like i spend all my time with school, gym, sports, nutrition...PS im 15.

Chef buff said that looking at mobile devices and computers does not allow our brain to recover, then doesn't video games do the same thing. Sometimes after playing halo I feel mentally burned out. I think video games and watching tv should fall under the category of stimulating sympathetic nervous system which adds to total stress. Being in nature, meditating, relaxing, reading all fall under parasympathetic. I enjoy video games but I feel that should be in the other category. But nice vid

I have "underrecovered" for a couple of months, studying for psychology exam, while still training the rippetoes SS program. I have had a couple of weeks and days off, deloads etc during this period, just because i felt overtrained, but now i am feeiling better. Still dont feel 100 % energetic and recovered though. But i have a 5 week vacation for this winter. should i continue training hard, just making sure i rest and enjoy myself?

That awesome moment when you discussed this topic in biology few years ago so you know wtf this is actually about :D And this week I'm taking a week off from training, after 4 months of consistently working out, I feel neurally drained. I have exams this week so I'll be busy, will read some old books too.

Holy shit I had no idea this combination could impair digestion - which I've been having for a while ever since I kicked up the intensity of my workouts. Looking at the board, not only have I been considering the sympathetic portion my utmost, 24/7 priority but, all things associated to the parasympathetic have been steadily decreasing. Especially stupid sleep. Thanks buff. Hopefully you've just fixed my life.

Hey Chef Buff! What do you think about this method of relaxation: riding a bike to the park. Although I really enjoy this and find this recreational activity to calm me down and ease the stress, I feel that this overworks my quads - is this a broscience? Should I just continue on doing this? I lift Mon,Wed,Fri and basically go riding a bike everyday for an hour or so. Thanks in advance.

Wait, so if your excited enough, then you don't have enough Parasympathetic activities? But then you said that you balance the two which is why you're so hyper all the time. Can you explain please?

Being stressed out really fucks with u badly... i am and have been a calm not stressed out person for the most óf my life.. But 1 week with constant adrenelin rushes, butterflies in my stomach, being nervous to the point of almost throwing up etc.. my stomach and digestive system went ape shit and after the week or so, i was tired as FUCK and didn´t want to do shit.. IT was a very distorted and surreal kind of exitstents..

I recently started working out for the first time in 8 years and first day of workout, sleep was ok, second workout I got light unsatisfying sleep. Third workout was the same. By the 4th workout, I wasn't sleeping. Now every day that I work out, even if I did it in the morning, I can't fall asleep. My workouts are intense. I am completely drenched in sweat. My conclusion is that I'm overtraining especially when I started out hardcore when I was not in shape at all. But I don't know what to do. I waited a whole 10 days to recover after my last workout day resulted in insomnia. Yesterday's workout was the same. Couldn't sleep.

Really late reply but yes your over traning , your body is to stressed to sleep and is it fight or flight situation. Maybe check your diet if your eating enough good foods. Rest and recovery is very important, don’t always push every workout your body then. Stays in elevated Cortsoil , hope your doing better
