Just listen to Pete's chord structures, amazing even to this day and age. Simply the best rhythm guitarist of all time. The band just follows, and the magic is real.

They rip into these songs ferociously, and then soft spoken Pete says a few words. Incredible.

My very first concert June 7th 1970 at the New York Metropolitan Opera House. I was 12. It changed me forever. Every time i listen to this album, it takes me right back to that show...

An absolute delight for the ears. The one thing I miss here is the Hammond organ-drenched choruses! It's the icing for sure.

Sounds so much like Rush, it's even called overture. The Who , a most influential band
@VictorSilva-wl7qb3 жыл бұрын
Rush is influenced by The Who! I love Rush, and if i not wrong, Alex Lifeson is REALLY influenced by Pete, mainly by his focus in Rhythm Guitar and not only in Solo, and Geddy Lee saided that the god of Bass is Entwistle, so... Yep!
@jamestcallahanphotographer3 жыл бұрын
Uh…Rush sounded like the bands who came before and influenced them (in their early days)…The Who…and Sabbath…a bit…and Zeppelin…and it’s amazing where they took it.

Rush might sound like The Who but The Who never sounded like rush.

That was great. I think Overture is the only song from Tommy where I prefer the studio version to the Leeds version, because of the french horn.

They were two 1970 shows set up with the intent of recording a live album. The strategic purposes were twofold: to remind The Who's audience that they were a loud rock band and not some opera group, and to buy Townshend some time while he came up with the Next Big Thing. Hull is the show at which they failed to record the bass for several songs early in the show. They ended going with the other show; Therefore, it's Live at Leeds.

They actually recorded the entire tour. Townshend gave something like 30 recordings of every show to a friend, asking him to pick the best cuts. The friend didn't take any notes and simply told Pete everything from each show was great. Pissed off, Pete told the friend to burn the tapes (a decision he regrets to this day), and scheduled the Hull and Leeds shows for recording.

One city, one night - Leeds, 2/14/1970. The Hull show wasn't released until four decades later.
