A bit of trivia. When they taped the video for Join Together circa 1973 I went to the studio with a couple of girls and my friend John Maxted. There was a tap on my shoulder and Roger Daltrey is standing there and says" "Nice Jacket Mate! Can I borrow it." It was an army fatigue jacket which my mum had sewn a John Bull/Union Jack tea towel on the back panel (It'd burned it trying to put an iron on transfer of in). Well of course I said. And here it is. You'll see the Jacket around 3.42 when he turns around. I didn't make the cut though....Still have the jacket. He signed it. My mum washed it. Arrgggh.

I love the look of reckless abandonment mixed with enthusiastic bewilderment and a bit of fear that John gives to Pete at the 3:06 mark on the counter. They are obviously trying to appear as if it was live and they do a good job. But for the band to enter the crowd for a sing along would be a nightmare and dam near impossible to pull off. I just finished reading Roger Daltrey's book. Fascinating story. Keith Moon was hilarious from the outside but a total nightmare for anyone close to him or trying to work with him. He cost the band a fortune. John Entwistle was very dark and moody and had a mean streak. Pete Townshend was a volatile creative genius and he knew it. Roger had the toughest working class background working in a factory and was fighting to escape from it. He had the strongest work ethic and avoided the drugs. Unlike most bands, with the Who it was the lead singer and front man who man both feet most firmly planted on the ground. Roger was the anchor that kept the ship steady all those years.
@chrisperrien70553 жыл бұрын
Maybe , but Pete Townnsend cartainly was an inspired msucian who kept the WHO running even after Daughtry left . I never saw "the who". the one time I could have(the Its Hard tour 1982), I traded for a two week party and about 14 grams of nearly pure cocaine , which corrupted about 50 people and was a ton of fun . Did I make the right decision ? I still don't know. But missing the Who , remains as the only Wood Stock band, I ever missed. Never miss a band who was at Wood Stock, I learned that well , over the years. And If I get the bucks, I do want to see them "Live at Leeds" as they promised after this covid-flu bull is over with.
@justinneill50033 жыл бұрын
@@chrisperrien7055 Daltrey didn't exactly quit the band, he took a break in 1980 to do McVicar (and all the other band members were involved in his solo album of the soundtrack.) It was actually Townshend who wanted to stop touring in 1982 and become a studio group, and a year later he quit the band and the Who ended, except for periodic reunions, until they reformed in 1996.

Each band member is unique. Ox is a "Lead Bass Player". If you just listened to the song, you heard what I mean. Keith is my Idol, the way rock and roll by-God drums should be played, and Pete writes it that way. And there's nothing about Roger's voice I would change. I thought I wanted him to rival the great Robert Plant, but I don't. Not everyone can be the King, you know? But even as an old man, he can still get it done. Impressive. And Pete Townshend's career has been the soundtrack of my adult life. I am the seeker, as described by the artist. This was not the case when the song was released. It took a lifetime ...

Just imagine,actually some don't need to imagine,we actually had this and a lot more back in the day, now imagine the people from this generation in 30/40 years time and there be saying,,,,back in the day we had f/all if only we had been part of the earlier generations, God you've missed out on so much, you have everthing but really you have nothing 😒 but hey at least we're sharing our memories at least whilst we still have them 😃😃😃

I haven't read his biography but he was obviously very young here. The ravages of being an alcoholic hadn't had the time yet to wreck their havoc. I'm assuming he always drank but when you're younger, you bounce back. By the time of his death it had surely taken it's toll. Brilliant drummer and a funny man from the few interviews I've been able to see

His brain was a mess though.. must have been a very scary place to be. But he was, as far as I feel THE BEST drummer for a rock band at that time..

This is one of the few videos that even though they were lip synching, I still didn't mind. It was so hilarious, watching Keith toss the drumstick up and missed catching it, and just froze in position.😂 Such an incredibly kind-hearted clown!! And the greatest rock and roll drummer ever!😊 By the way, what were those weird ass instruments they were playing and the beginning of the song? Some kind of old school European wind instruments.

That's funny! I was wishing (as a drummer, and HUGE Keith Moon fan) that they'd show more Keith Moon/ the Drummer, who almost ALWAYs is neglected and falls right behind the bassist in order of "interest", from singer, rhythm, then lead guitarist, bassist, THEN, finally, the drummer, LOL...

@Timothy Burns - How the hell do you figure?!!? Re-watch the video, especially in the beginning-that is 100% Moon. And, No, Jones was nowhere near as good as moon. He was just a replacement to allow the group, as it was, to continue on, same as Ringo's kid is doing for Townsend/Daltry now. Talk about not knowing when to retire BTW. You'd think they were both Jews...I mean, they dont really need the money, and their quality is not there, and what was once 4, is now only 2. As bad as the Rolling Friggin' Stones. I guess someone will stuff them up and prop them onstage, while their music plays thru a sound-system, and call it a concert soon.
