At this price range I'd just get a Yaesu FT 60. It's tried and true about the same price and has the same memory capacity. Enjoyed the review and Wouxun makes some decent radios overall.

Thanks. I'm going to try to get my hands on a ft60. I would really enjoy the comparison and hear amazing things about the 60. Take care!

FT60 has a solid case. I and family members have had three of them. Circuitry in the FT60 seems to wear out or go bad after about 2-3 years of normal use. I don't know what the issue is with the FT-60's but I am disinclined to invest in another.

Good review Mr Dude. I like how you move right along, many YT reviews feature a lot of repetition. I am curious about VOX and how it would work without a TNC for APRS using APRSDroid and a cable.

Thanks Liberty Cave. I could try to find out a bit about VOX without a TNC for APRS and the APRS Droid. It's something I'm not too familiar with, but would be willing to learn. Maybe even a good livestream thing.

@@HAMRADIODUDE Here's what I can tell you... the radio is from Facebook marketplace so of questionable origins. Other potentially relevant things: I live in a city and I got my amateur license pretty long ago, so all I remember mostly is don't curse, say your call sign if you transmit, and the NATO alphabet. Anyway, I thought it'd be good to try something simple. I can listen to commercial FM radio on it, which was my first test. That worked fine. Then thought I'd listen to the weather or marine broadcasts. Here's where things went very badly. Entered the frequency for my area's weather (162.550) on the main band. Nothing but static/squelch. Tried a few other weather frequencies. Tried the marine frequency. Tried the other antenna. Tried changing the bandwidth selection from wide to narrow. Same thing. Nothing but static. Started obsessively searching for instructions on how to use the radio on KZbin... and it's mostly just reviews and not a lot about use. It's quite like that there's something I am doing wrong... but it's also just as likely that I need a different antenna or the radio is broken. :/

Hi, would you recommend this Wouxun KG-UV9D over Yaesu FT-70D? How does it perform in reception/transmission ? Thanks
@HAMRADIODUDE Жыл бұрын
My one thing is if you want C4FM, this is your inexpensive way in. Battery life seems better on the Wouxon. What are you looking to do with the HT? This may help me give you better insight.

It's for the ham bands, but there is software to unlock it to do GMRS as well. (not legal, blah blah blah..but the software does work)

Thx for the info. Candidly, I could not watch to the end. The large number of microcuts, every few seconds, were giving me a seizure inducing headache. Did you record each microsegment from an outline? Maybe other people did not notice. Anyway, thx for the service that you provide to the amateur community with the vids that you produce. It is not full duplex. So not ideal for satellite, but it will work. You just can't hear yourself to know you're making it in to a satellite. However full duplex HT's are few and far in between and very expensive.

Interesting. When I hold down that button, it can switch between 4 modes, channel mode, channel mode with repeater name, channel (memory) mode with frequency, or vfo mode. The way to tell memory mode with frequency display, is the channel will show to the right (small font). Back in vfo mode, you won't see the channel number. I can't think of any reason or alternative solution. If you want to send me a quick video, I'll send you my email

Would you use this one in trouble? Like war or smth?hiding in the forest and calling for help?
@HAMRADIODUDE6 ай бұрын
That's a difficult question to answer. I have used comms in the past which were a bit more rugged (Motorola and Harris). The UV9D, is a good radio for what it is and for its price. It does have an IP65 rating, which may be sufficient for your environment, but maybe not for others. Also, the UV9D could be unlocked with special software, which could be discouraging if you needed to unlock it in the field (as opposed to some radios which could be modded via the keypad or button combo). For a bit more money, you could get a KGQ10H with IP67 ratings, 4 bands out of the box, and freuqency unlock via the front panel . - This is not an affiliate link, but feel free to say I sent you (if you buy this one) www.buytwowayradios.com/wouxun-kg-q10h.html But if you are looking to go to war with a radio, I recommend encrypted comms (Neither of these have) as a minimum. Cheers
