The project and the podcast series, hosted by Rachael Black and Sarah Howson at the University of Sheffield, will explore issues of power, ethics and lived experience in collaborations between communities and researchers.
Despite ongoing drives for working in partnership with community partners and people with lived experience often participating in research can feel disempowering or tokenistic to the communities and individuals involved, even traumatic. In this series community connectors, people with lived experience and researchers will share their perspectives of engaging in research and how this could be done better.
The aim of the project is to centre the voices of community groups and individuals. We hope the podcast will be a useful resource for communities in highlighting their experiences and for researchers to consider their own practice and how to build sustainable, respectful relationships with collaborators.
The podcasts will be hosted on the Participatory Research Network website at the University of Sheffield and the University Player website. The other films are online and open accesss.
