I have found numerous tutorials for GS, but this one is by for the best and most comprehensive of them. Minor quibble: vertex is singular, vertices is plural. It's impossible to "grab a single vertice". Thanks for making this!

Man you’re doing a great job, making the dive into VR easier for us. I really appreciate it. Just noticed your UI is quite different from the one that I see on my oculus quest. Going to watch all your videos.

Thank you!! Yeah next week I'll make a video about using the Quest with my course. You actually have all the same modeling features on the Quest even though I filmed this with the studio versions. The controllers may look different to you because I'm using the Valve Index here, but the button layouts are the same. Only thing you'll be missing are some environmental controls, and extra export settings. But that big orange environment at the end of this video was actually all made on the Quest, so you're using the right tool :) In the future, I'll mention the Quest more in my videos to make things easier.

6:15 was where I started to get invested in Gravity Sketch. I'm really hoping I see some type of negative or carving feature somewhere in here, but so far this looks like it's getting the closest to what I want in VR right now.

I had Quest2 for quite a while now but I only recently decided, out of boredom, to explore what Gravity Sketch can do. I also teach mathematics and I realize I can use it to make 3D illustrations for my lectures. Anyway, thanks for this tutorial. It was a huge help! PS The singular of vertices is vertex. :)

I’m thinking about getting this device and gravity sketch to help designs woodworking projects. Would I be able to do something where I can still see the room I’m in while designing, build something that resembles the project and have approximate measurements? Is gravity sketch good for that or is there something else I should look into

I'm using a borrowed quest 2 and I notice that in some drawing programs the vertexes already become glitchy with the work I'm doing, and I'm not even that far in. I wonder how much the Quest 2 can handle or if I really need to start working through virtual desktop in order to make more complex designs.

Are you using the Vive or the Oculus with this demonstration?
@cesarmarrufo64334 жыл бұрын
I'm a beginner at this and I'm intrigued at learning how to do this. My question is, is there a way to add models already created in different software?
@TheSpatialCanvas4 жыл бұрын
Yup!! You can import a model by placing it in the Gravity Sketch > Models folder on your desktop, then pull it up in GS. from there you can convert it to a SubD object, which gives you full control over the verts. The only caveat is that this conversion deletes all UVs, although the team is aware that this should be fixed in the future. I'd advice only converting objects less than 50k verts. However GS can handle non-converted imports with much higher vert counts. Covids got me behind, but hopefully this winter I can make a follow up with all these new features.

When exporting to fdx it says you can't do that 'cause that is for professionals. What do they mean? Is there a premium version?

Gah yes....... They recently changed their model, which is good and bad. Good, because now the regular version of GS doesn't require a subscription, and contains almost every feature. But FBX got lumped in with the pro version.

What about the movement tools?
@luismanueltejada82104 жыл бұрын
Is it a way to snap an entire project to origin? I moved my sketch (a house) and now it doesn't match with the grid. Thank you.
@TheSpatialCanvas4 жыл бұрын
For an object you're working on, there is not. however when you import something, you can place it in the box to the left of the import window, which will automatically place it at it's origin. One fix for you, would be to go back to a previous save, grab your house and turn it into a prefab in the import folder, then go back to your latest scene and import the house. This will place it at it's origin. Overall best advice I can give is never overwrite saves, just keep iterating so you can do stuff like this.
@luismanueltejada82104 жыл бұрын
@@TheSpatialCanvas Thank you for reply. I solved it by grouping the entire sketch, zooming in and aligning the sketch with the axis using smart move. I didn't have previous saves.
@TheSpatialCanvas4 жыл бұрын
@@luismanueltejada8210 Ah nice glad that worked for you. I know that feeling when you move something by accident when you're world scaling, yet don't realize you did it till it's too late. Working on a new set of videos for the series, I'll try to come up with some tricks for this.

This is the pro version, but you really aren't missing that much in the normal version. The main difference is your ability to export specific file types and control the environment settings. But all the modeling tools are the same
@Psychodermia Жыл бұрын
On my toolbelt, I do not have a tape measure. What I have instead is a stupid wand that does nothing. What's up with that? Also, NO ONE has been able to tell me how to reorient an object to the "world axis", XYZ axis once it is moved to a random axis. Example: You draw a 1-foot straight, square stroke (it looks like a 1-foot-long bar floating in the air before you). It is level and plumb, but you grab and move it out of place. You then change the color of the object. The object has now been turned over and over while you examine it in your grasp. Now, HOW would I return the object to precise XYZ orientation so I can place it with Smart Move? Anyone? 👽✌️

Tilt brush or gravity sketch?
@TheSpatialCanvas4 жыл бұрын
Throughout my series I explain that they are not comparable apps. It's similar to asking "Should I use a 3D modeler, or a texturing program?" When you need both. Tilt is great for conceptualization and VFX concept design, while gravity sketch is great for final 3D modeling and exporting.

@TheSpatialCanvas3 жыл бұрын
They're going free in a month! But keep in mind, this isn't Adobe, Gravity Sketch is an indy company, their employees have to get paid for development somehow. But it's great that they've been able to secure enough funding now to turn the subscription off. But please just consider the people who make these tools in the future, you would expect to get paid for your work too.
