I just love making space ships and I love using Subdivision modeling tools. I had the pleasure of working along side Gravity Sketch as they were developing these tools so they are a perfect fit for me and how I work. This video gives you a little intro to the sub D tools and gives you a good starting point to begin making space ships in VR!

Thank you so much, I almost wrote off Gravity Sketch because I didn't think it had the tollols I needed, but this looks super useful!

Just ordered my quest 2. Your videos sold me on it.

The bit where you start moving and scaling the open fin loop was a WOW moment for sure :) This is 100x faster than working in traditional subD modellers. So exciting!

This is awesome. Please make more sci-fi and hard surface videos in gravity!! You’re a wizard!

Thank you. I will be increasing the complexity and content of the tutorials. I have a full beginners guide coming out soon and once that’s out I will move up to intermediate and master class stuff.

Can you do a video on making a full human figure using Gravity sketch + subdivision tools?

I have a question when you’re creating things are you stationary or room scaled?
@ciroc53513 жыл бұрын
old video ik but i’m loving how you’re explaining everything in all your videos and breaking it down, but when you make your cuts it makes them go all the way around the object i always have to cut each cut manually. everytime i see you make a cut you just click a button and i can’t find anything on it anywhere how do you do that is it a beta setting?

Hi Glen, is there any way to make a ground plane so I can keep things horizontal and vertical ?
@SouthernGFX4 жыл бұрын
Yeah there’s a stage floor in the settings and you can also lock the scene vertically. I do that a lot with vehicles

Do you know if it's possible to export splines to Cinema4D from Gravity Sketch?
@originallivster21774 жыл бұрын
You're saying the crease tool edits dont stay when you export them?
@SouthernGFX4 жыл бұрын
Exactly. The crease tool in most sub-d programs doesn’t export. You have to cut it into geometry if you’re want it to retain the sharpness on export.

So Rift S or this new Quest 2 ?
@SouthernGFX4 жыл бұрын
drpepa09 I was never a fan of the quest tethered to a pc. The quest on its own is great for playing in gravity sketch but it wasn’t powerful enough for my sort of work. I would say stick with a Rift S but then I haven’t read the specs for the quest 2. I’ll review it with gravity sketch the minute we get our hands on one.
@SouthernGFX4 жыл бұрын
Ok. You just cost me £399. I pre ordered it and the current shipping info for the UK says the 13th October. As you are the first to ask I’ll dedicate the Quest 2 Gravity sketch review to you lol.

Well it has only been days since they announced the ability to pre order the quest 2, but ide also be interested in seeing that video

thank you very much for the video. Really does explain a hell of a lot for what is hopefully going to be a very powerful tool indeed. but please, please PLEASE, for the love of god. one is a VERTEX as it is singular. the multiple of vertex is vertices. please also pass this on to your peers. Thank you once again though. Ive been struggling to get the hang of VR art as a hell of a lot is assumed. this explains a few things.

Thanks John. I am guilty of miss using the term on multiple occasions and I have it so badly engrained in my vocabulary that it just pops out. I even mention that I get it wrong in lots of videos. I started modeling in 91 so you think I would have been able to correct it by now. I think I’ll have it bleeped out in the future and you aren’t the first to be offended. I even wrote it incorrectly in my VR MA and thankfully no one spotted it.

@@SouthernGFX ah its cool man. Just my OCD kicking into overdrive. Im a graphics programmer finally learning the art side of games (did you notice? :P ) so these videos are invaluable to me right now. Even if I do have to bite my tongue lmao

everyone still says "verticy" but there's no such thing
@solrwavz4 жыл бұрын
instead of all the extra edge loops wouldn't extruding inwards a few times and moving the points closer together make a crease? not sure if that would work in GS
