Mark Simonitch's games are amazing. He is my favorite game designer for true two player games.

Great overview. I find one of the biggest differences between the games and that which brings in more rules is unit scale. Battalion/Regimental Vs Divisions. The West front games are mostly Battalion/Regimental and have additional MAF (main attack force) rules that encourage using units from the same division in attacks + limited silhouetted unit attachments. The East Front units are divisions for the most part which means there isn't the need for MAF rules. For this reason I find the East Front games easier to get into, but love the added detail of the Regimental/ Battalion scale in the Western Front games.

I picked up Salerno recently as my first introduction into Simonitch's games and even though I purely play solo, i'm really enjoying it.

Thanks Nathan. This overview is excellant and very rare to be able to look over all the games in the series in one video. I followed your Stalingrad 42 playthroughs and am intrigued by the very clear and efficient flowing system this seems to have and I really like games that can be played over many days as I get absorbed in them and read about the campaign at the same time. Really enjoying your hex and counter game playthroughs. Can't wait for the Salerno one to be available as well.
Awesome overview. Feels like an eternity waiting for that Normandy ‘44 reprint. Thinking of picking up Ukraine ‘43 as you mentioned, seems a good companion to Stalingrad ’42 - so obviously love this series. Clean, clear and high production values.

Love your use of the term "hex bond"; I hate when people say, "Zock"... it's Zone of Control!!! :)

Is there any way to learn this system for someone whos never played h/c games or wargames in general? I'm trying to read the Salerno rules but it's too much

hi nathan, too bad France 1940 doesn't have a full "Campaign in the West" scenario.

Thanks, I really like the topics that thr series covered but didn't like Normandy'44 - its "sloggy" nature and 18 attack factor limitation really put me off the series. I'm not a big fan of East Front so maybe I'll need to give Ardennes or Holland'44 a try, as a lot of people are praising these titles.

The system creates fun games in a small space - but are highly dependent on luck, so don't take them too seriously or expect anything very close to history.
