Great Video. Be sure to check with local regulations. Ohio, for example, does not allow the pump to be installed outside, in any basement, any conditioned, or in any living spaces.

thank you this is the information I was looking for our house tested 12.----and we have a sump so now I know for sure how to install---I took three test so the radon level is high----I have had friends that died of lung cancer but never smoked---I bet it was the radon---

The vent pipe draws air out of the surface water drain or sump. Since the drain is in the underlying soil, the perforations in the drain pipe draw soil gases including radon from the soil and exhaust it into the atmosphere at a location where the radon cannot come in an open window. Since the drain pipe is not full of water (because it drains water away from house or into a sump) there is ample free space in the slotted pipe to collect soil gasses. It is very effective in reducing radon, provided the installer does not do anything to the drain pipe that would preclude it from continuing to collect surface water.

Where do they come up with this shit? People lived before for many generations just fine, and all of a sudden they come up with "radon" gas theory. Seems like another idea for companies that make living installing these systems.

Thank you for the comment. The purpose of this video is to inform how radon reduction is accomplished for those who choose to do so either as a result of a contingency in a real estate contract or their own health concerns, both of which are based upon studies dating back to the 1950s which have been confirmed by the US Surgeon General, National Academy of Sciences, Health Canada and most recently the World Health Organization. On the other hand, radon reduction is voluntary and one can choose to be exposed to as much radon as they choose. But for those that choose not to be exposed, these videos are designed to show how easily it can be done by either the Do-It-Yourselfer or via trained professionals who deserve to make a living just like any other hard working person.

Good call Mitmaks! We should spend our time making foil helmets to stop space beams instead. Also, since 90% of all traffic accidents will happen to you within 5 miles of your house, you should be sure to fix that problem by moving to a new neighborhood.
