An overview of the Presonus Series III console we occasionally use.
We don't do too many videos covering generalized equipment usage. Therefore, I apologize for the mundane "existence" of the progression of the video.
May 2020: Thank you to those whom have responded in the comments referencing other digital boards. It's good to see other manufactures producing great consoles with all having nearly identical functionality; which was not always that way.
Note: There are other great Presonus videos (very well done) available on KZbin. We recommend you also view those videos, however, be aware there could be functional differences between the same product line due to different firmware versions.
The Presonus Series III is a great console. Having used these digital consoles: Berhinger/Midas, Yamaha TF, Yamaha MC7-L, Soundcraft Performer-3, Yamaha 01V (very old console), the Presonus has a great work-flow. The other consoles I reference are great, but seemed to lack a logical work-flow. However, perhaps their work-flow has improved (through firmware) over the past few years.
We hope to have future videos of this console in action (when the world opens for business from Covid).

You've done a beautiful job of explaining the main features of the board. I really appreciate that. I've been interested in PreSonus Consoles, but never invested the time to investigate them. Thanks so much. Great job!

Good overview. My first mixer was the PreSonus 16.4.2 and I really enjoyed learning how to mix on it. Now I'm the proud owner of a Midas M32R. Hope to see more gig videos when things resume.

Behringer was 32 but that’s why they make the x32 full or the wing. Also in my opinion the producer is more made for tablet control and if you happen to need a little bit of physical control. Love the videos!! Keep it up!

I'm an Allen & Heath fan (used to work for them) and use a GL-2200 at one of my regular venues. I own a PreSonus 16:4:2 and really enjoy the workflow; it sounds really good too. As my small business grows, I'll be looking to get a larger board in time. Allen & Heath and PreSonus are at the top of my list right now. I've heard PreSonus get slated a lot, but I really can't think why; they're very capable and I feel mine certainly punches well above it's weight.

Great video but not sure why you compared this desk with the x32 compact when Behringer makes a full 32 channel desk as well? The channels line up with the inputs just the same. This desk has tons more features and is generally a beater board, but making that comparison is kinda shady.

Thanks for the comment. The comparison referencing the Compact (and other boards similar to it), was for illustrative purposes. Other consoles (i.e. A&H, Soundcraft) also have a 1:1 channel line up on many of their boards, but also have smaller consoles that do not provide a 1:1 (like the Compact). The Compact referenced in the video was illustrative.

Behringer X32 (and Midas M32) has all of these features laid out plain in front of you, the only buttons you need to be pressing are for the layers.

Great overview! I can't afford anything like this, nor would my "one man band" really justify it - I've got a 12 channel Yamaha board - but it's fun to learn about it anyway. I like how you can see all the channels on the main mix - I have the idea of paging through crap to find a channel.

Out of interest, what Yamaha board are you using? Their MG consoles have great bang for the buck.

Can this Presonus StudioLive series III console be used connected to a DAW using Studio One, Pro Tools, etc. to simultaneously mix multiple tracks at once as the song is playing (real-time) when mastering as normally done in studio? Or is it just basic live mixer with only the added feature of recording the separate tracks (which is still pretty cool)? From what I understand the older (‘classic’) StudioLive 16.4.2 etc. models (and most other similar consoles) cannot actually be used in combination with a DAW app for the real-time simultaneous multi-track mastering and can only perform the recording stage of the process. Hence in order gain the ability to do real-time multi-track recording (using faders for at least eight individual tracks) while mastering with a DAW app requires the addition of a Presonus FaderPort 8 or 16 (or similar device). Please correct me if I am wrong or confirm if I am right. Thanks.

This console can be used with Studio One; I'm not sure about the other DAW tools. The console is a DAW, but is also for live sound. It can do a multi-track recording of a show directly to its onboard multi-track recorder. Stage Left Audio does not do anything with recording nor DAW, so we may not be able to answer in-depth questions.

@@stageleftaudio Thanks for the reply! sorry for the repeat. I have asked it on many KZbin posts dealing with the StudioLive consoles and may have asked it more than once from the same people on different posts of theirs. Guess I am a bit anxious. I am looking into buying a used Faderport16 from a guy - that could sell it before I decide hence my last minute haste. But before I invest in the FaderPort I am trying to find out if my money would be better spent just upgrading my current ~10 year old used 'classic' StudioLive 16.4.2 to a newer series StudioLive mixer (hopefully USB vs. firewire) that may do what I want. So before I invest in anything that I may or may not need I am looking to find out if I am wrong and if so discover which series StudioLive mixers have the ability to connect to a DAW adding the ability to use the faders real-time while mixing down a master recording. OR confirm if I am right and there are no StudioLive models that can be connected to a DAW to do real-time master mixing as I want and hence I would need the FaderPort after all. I am not even nearly as technically capable or skilled with my DAW setup as I would like to be yet. I am more focused on composing and my time to devote to it is limited by projects and life in general. I am sure many people are in the same boat. I know far too many really talented musicians and being a bit of a perfectionist I want to get my songs down to something I am proud of and might like others to hear . . . before I die. LOL Forty years ago I actually worked at a recording studio for a bit. Behind the board not in front of it. Analog days with big fat tapes. Here and there assisting the engineers with a band but mostly the menial task of cutting and spicing tapes or ‘carts’ for blips or ads for the local morning and evening news radio shows. Over the last five years whenever I have found the time I have been laying down some tracks digitally with my StudioLive 16.4.2 but nothing is mixed down to a master form I can be satisfied with yet. It is all still a work in progress. Every now and then I have been recording some songs in very basic simple raw form guitar and vocal only and sending them in for copyright but those aren’t really meant to be heard by anyone (other than government copyright officials if they ever actually do listen to submissions LOL). Song ideas still continue popping up in my head all the time. Along with ~50 worthwhile (to me anyway) songs I have written over the last 50 or so years on and off when life wasn’t in the way I have many 1000s of hours of work in progress songs and ideas. All the trial and error involved in developing songs. I would just start up the tape recorder (or tiny digital recorder or phone recording app etc.) and let it run while I rambled and fiddled with developing verses, progressions, licks, ‘hooks’ etc. Sometimes just laying back in the recliner pluckin on my strat without an amp. Going through some of these old recordings I find there are so many many songs or ideas that I forgot about or lost track of and am now rediscovering. I’ll never get through it all. It would be ‘painful’ for anyone of my descendants that may care to try to listen to if you know what I mean. Hell it’s even painful for me to review all of this. Like listening to the neighbor kid learning to play a violin . . . or trumpet. Pure torture. I must suffer in solitude listening through my endless ramblings alone. So I have been listening to this mass mess cutting and pasting any relevant pieces or passages and compiling it down to more condensed and organized mp3s by subject or song. Then I again listen to the cleaner nitpicked rendered results and see if I can make something more worthwhile of it . . . with a bit of bourbon or whatever to get me through it. Then I might lay some of it down in digital tracks with the StudioLive add some bourbon and mix up a master. . . . but I digress . . . sorry

Thanks for the great response! Sounds like you know what you are looking for. The StudioLive Series 3 consoles are a big step up from the Classic series. We still use a Classic series for the small channel count events, but will use the Series 3 consoles for the larger shows. Nearly all of the work we do is in live sound; I have never used our Series 3 consoles for any DAW work. Though, the Series 3 console (not sure if all have this function), have a "DAW" button on them that does something with setting up the console for DAW usage. You may want to look at the Presonus website for DAW work with the Series 3 consoles. I think Presonus may have some KZbin videos covering some of the questions/concerns you referenced. Good luck!

Can you make a video how to connect Bluetooth on presonus studiolives 32s with Stage-box?
@stageleftaudio
@stageleftaudio 2 ай бұрын
All you need is a bluetooth to XLR adaptor. We do not use bluetooth, but have heard of others using these types of adapters. For example: www.amazon.com/Alto-Professional-Bluetooth-Total-Rechargeable/dp/B091Z2523R?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&th=1 Looks like you can connect the adapter into any XLR input. Stage Left Audio Productions, LLC is not affiliated with Amazon, nor receives any type of compensation from the provided link.
