You need to add this about Thomas: He asked Jesus a really important question: Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:5-6)

All credit goes to St. Thomas for taking the pain to sail to Southern India in AD52 in search of the Jewish Community in Kerala, evangelising them. Till today we believe that he was the source of early christianity just like our ancestors before us (even though later on western missionaries also had a role in shaping and reforming our beliefs.)

How about Apostle Paul? What was his role in apostleship? Was he one of the twelve?
@ChangeIsComing4 жыл бұрын
Also, it is possible that the three people that the Lord chose to be close to Him represented three different types of saints… Peter’s main focus may have been leading the church. James main focus may have been being a martyr for his faith. John’s main focus may have been to be a prophet foretelling the end of days.
@OverviewBible4 жыл бұрын
That's creative-but tradition says that *all* the Eleven except John were martyred, so I'd have a hard time seeing James' role as special in this way.

okay im kinda confused. why do you keep mentioning the word "believe" everytime you mention the sayings of either Jesus or the apostles ex: 2:48 or 3:57 english isn't my first language too so idk if its just a different and persistent way of saying "says" or "knows". Or is this explanation treated more like a story and with the explanation of the characters you're saying "Some believe this is so" ?

They were disciples them he called them apostles after training and teaching them so they can go out and preach the gospel.
@tmilesffl2 жыл бұрын
Many people have been called to be disciples throughout the years. When was the last time you heard someone referenced today as an apostle? There is also a theory, in Acts, when judas was replaced that an apostle was a witness directly of Christ death and resurrection. Although they were called apostles by Christ before his death.
@jessicaortiz4574 Жыл бұрын
A disciple is a learner who follows a teacher and learns his wisdom. An apostle is to set forth with a commission. The requirements to be an apostle 1) seen Christ rise (1 Corinthians 9:1) 2) have a fellowship with him (acts 1:21-22) and 3) be chosen (Ephesians 4:11) Anyone can be a disciple of Christ but not anyone can be an apostle. Hope it helps.

Hi Jeffrey, Love the videos, thanks for sharing. Some additional facts. In this video @6:46 you talk about James and John, the sons of Zebedee. Their Mother was actually Salome, who was coincidentally the sister of Mary (Jesus' Mother!). So for John and James to take care of Mary after Jesus is crucified, it just makes family sense. Jesus, James and John were actually cousins! Coincidentally, John the Baptist (and this is a weird one), who was born from Elizabeth, was Mary's Cousin, so even John the Baptist was a 2nd cousin (or at least family), based on Luk 1-3. While I agree personally that John of Zebedee was the writer of John, 1-3John and even Revelations, he is also the only one that died of natural causes at an old age, even after an attempt of killing him by throwing him in boiling oil, failed. While he is referred to as the 'Elder' and the "Evangelist", these gifts were placed in the church (Eph 4:11-16, Rom 12, 1Cor12) - which I believe were the gifts he "manifested" while serving God. Thanks you for your effort!

Good job my brother! Any idea why jews in those days do not give their last name to their children? Most of the characters in the Bible do not have or carry their last name. Mathias was chosen by the remaining eleven, Paul was chosen by Christ. Revelations 21:14 states the twelve apostles are the twelve foundation stones. Who is number 12? Paul, Judas, Mathias?
@patrickm12 жыл бұрын
Probably Matthias. They wouldn't have replaced Judas Iscariot if he was still a member of the 12 after his betrayal. Also if Jesus really did choose Paul to be the 12th Apostle instead of Matthias, don't you think He would have specifically said so?

Hey now. I said Thomas might have been a Gemini, and that was a joke. ;-) While I really like the thought, I doubt we all have the personality traits of the apostles. that's because we really don't know much about the apostles' personalities. The New Testament writers are far more concerned with the idea that there are twelve of them than they are concerned with what they did or were like! However, the call to heal people is a very noble one, and I hope you bring much healing to the world around you. =)
