i'd like to add to this a huge part of why role queue sucked in ow1 and had large disparity between DPS/healers/tanks, lack of options. u pick tank and u had to go shield defense or dive, or roadhog nothing else, yet blizzard is too fuckin braindead that they just see numbers and be like "heh we solved role queue problem by making it 5v5" not realizing fact that people play who they like so putting cool characters in any role incentives more players to play that role

@@solsensei6939 I'd like to see them rather than a only one of each hero and a forced 2-2-2 if they only limited the total number of tanks to no more than 3 and maybe no more than 2 or 3 of the same hero, that would solve a lot of the issue while still retaining that chaotic energy of release overwatch. Obviously, just as a game mode, at least to start, but I think that could legitimately balance Classic enough for a non oppressive casual play. Maybe not to a competitive level, but it could be something if they wish to make this a more long-term game mode.

My absolute favorite part about this is just seeing how much faster the time to kill was in OW1. Obviously there are no burst healers in this version, HOWEVER, you can actually punish people in OW1 because mobility and sustain was much more scarce. This is unlike OW2 where it takes 2k dmg to kill one target. Also tanks being able to die is wayyy more fun and interactive rather than shooting a brick wall of a tank in OW2 (with 700 health, dmg mitigation, shield, etc). They can take things from both games and create something truly fun and unique. Overall I really enjoyed this test and am looking forward to the last week where we get a more recent version of OW1.

No limits is rough, but this is the absolute most fun ive had in overwatch since overwatch 2, the very best part of it is: stuff finally dies. in overwatch 2 stuff just doesn't die, theres so many get out of jail freecards, so much healing, and nothing is killable, being able to actually kill someone based off of skill is so refreshing and it makes me enjoy the game a 100x more no more suzu, lamp, lifegrip, all these dumb abilities take away from the core game

Launch version is not what gave this game the GOTY. The game has grown for the better, it's fast, it's fun, with tons of fluidity. People don't have fun in the game not because of gameplay, it still is one the best gameplays out there; but because they are a bunch of toxic tryhards that want everyone else to be as miserable as them. You are either the toxic one, or let the toxic players bring you down, and you take the game extremely seriously

Game feels great with so little healing. Maybe the heal passive to kick in so you don't have to wait for healthpacks. But it's so cool that things actually die. Seeing 30-40 elims is cool as opposed to the 10-20 elims in live.

Im a massive fan of the limited heals. having to rely on tanks for survival instead of the heals is much better. In my experience heals are for a small amount of sustain if any in fights and only really show themselves after a fight so you dont have to find a healthpack.

I'd argue the start of the downfall was with Ana and specifically her nade. To this day, Anti-nade is one of the worst abilities in the game. It caused power creep, forced counterswapping and led to ridiculous abilities like Kiriko's Suzu. It wasn't AS bad in 6v6 since a tank could just take it for the team, but in 5v5, it hurts a lot.

First off, loading the game and hearing that old school music instantly took me back to a time of wonder. In 2016 I had never seen anything like Overwatch. The nostalgia was so real I seriously almost got teary eyed. So much has happened in the world and in my personal life since OW launched. I love that they did this. To see how far the game has come since then is amazing and, yes, a lot of the QoL changes were absolutely necessary.

Yeah going back to launch overwatch has really solidified my opinion that supports and too much healing killed the game as time went on. Yes heroes were a bit broken in ways and I miss lots of QOL things, but things actually die, there is attrition through damage and characters have windows of vulnerability. Then I have a game of 5v5, have sojourn in my face with no fear because any damage I do to her is instantly healed by an impossible to kill mercy (despite her stupid ult she was rightly more vulnerable in classic) then next game our whole team gets stomped by a mauga smurf. Horrendous. Also delete widow.

Back in the day I thought the tech and aim was a lot easier than my main games (TF2 and Loadout) and had a time to kill that was on the long side (which is saying something since they aready had a longer ttk than their contemporaries.) It's insane to see how much worse it's gotten over the years since I quit. Insanely long ttk, the game devolved into two clumps where no one strays from the hive, role lock means I lost my place as a player who would flex between dps and tank heroes as the team needed, it's been rough to see.

1. Healing was actually a strategic/scarce resource; 2. Burst heals actually wasn't a thing, aka all supports = viable; 3. Positioning actually mattered; 4. Map control was actually a thing; 5. Tanks actually had their defined roles, not as jack of all trades; 6. DPS were actually a huge threat; 7. Solo-carry was much more possible.. ; 8 .. while individual mistakes were actually less punishing. Idk. -- Change the whacko no limits to 1 hero limit -- Restore the best UI parts like post-game cards while keeping the good ones like the new scoreboard -- Remove the atrocious monetization (yeah not gonna happen) -- Keep what makes heroes fluid, like Genji's 1.0 movement while adding modern solutions to clunky stuff, like Hog's heals movement, new Lucio's ride and D.Va's charge DM -- Fix clearly broken stuff like hook 1.0 and FTH -- Fix the insane ult charge rate -- Restore new tech like hook turn and NOT add Ana and stuff that resulted in power/healing/CC creep (yeah, I like Sombra, but she kick-started the CC creep) -- Do not, do NOT, DO NOT try to balance it around GM. Sorry, GM - there isn't even an OWL now and GM is 0.something% of players. It was fun and popular when it was balanced around casual fun. You got a winner.

@@andrealelli7505 I see your point, yet - I disagree. Ana wasn't just the burst heal power engine. It was also the mini-ult on CD. Her entire kit is broken. Classic let me see that Ana should've never been added at all. And healing is not "too scarce". It's strategic. When nobody's playing support and everyone hurls themselves out like a headless chicken - yeah, healing is scarce. But the healing should not be balanced around dumb plays. As I said = position mattered back then. Having a proper tank mattered. Having a skillful healer that prioritizes targets mattered because you can't top 0..100% in a second. A lot of things were just simple and made sense. I just don't see the new designs fitting well if Ana is not added. It was the pivotal point when everything changed. All supports started to compete against Ana and the gameplay started to revolve around support balance and so on and so forth. She is not the only reason it rolled downhill, but she was an affront to all OG designs. She was a huge mistake.

I like hero limits, but I don' tlike Role Queue. Role queue definitely gave a more consistent experience, but for me it just was also consistently less fun. Overwatch is messy and a little chaotic, and I think tha'ts a good thing. The objective based game play (control points, fixed spawn points and such) adds order. But for team comps? I say let players go a little crazy. I play open queue these days whenever possible, but it's kinda janky because the tanks just aren't tuned for it, even with the HP reduction.

The nostalgia is real, but a part of me still wants to try a competitive version of this (with 1 hero limit) despite how unbalanced it is, I want to play some games where everyone is playing to win and we don't have 5 dps. I love that health packs aren't cosmetic for like 90% of the cast. In the current Overwatch, the only ones using health packs are flankers and ball, and that's pretty much it. In Overwatch Classic, everyone has to use health packs. It doesn't matter if you're a tank, support, or DPS. At some point, you're going to need to grab a health pack, and people can punish you if you're not fighting around them. That's how the game should be. The healing is waaaay to high in current Overwatch. With that said, I agree that I would like to see a classic version like this but with modern-day maps, no 2CP, that shit can fucking stay dead, 6v6 role queue, and some small tweaks to bring in the quality of life things that we've grown used to over the years. Also, don't bring back classic Bastion again. God, is he cancer. 😖

Classic Overwatch is amazing, the game is not a 200 mph sweat-fest where your class means literally zero. It actually requires teamwork and thought to get through a bastion/rein or to keep your abilities ready for when the Mercy full rez comes through… now its half a step away from being COD with a Monkey.

I started playing in season 1 of OW1. Even though yeah, many heroes are cracked, trash or untued, classic is super fun. There's a simplicity to it that is refreshing. Its super fun and 6v6 is definitely the way to go... Also, its fun actually being able to get kills again lol

I cannot believe THAT was the game that started it all and won game of the year. It's actually terrible. I go back and play classic versions of games I like a lot less than OW (old Halo's on MCC, old CODs) and they're better than the new ones, but OW has improved so much and the classic version is by far inferior. Every hero is horribly unbalanced and no-limits translates to 4 torbs, a zen, and a hog on my team every time.

I started playing Overwatch the day it came out in 2016 so yeah, I'm one of the OGs. The current iteration of OW Classic hits in the nostalgic feels but that's all it really does. It's clear that it's busted and far from balanced. And it shows in how people play the game mode. People just abuse whatever is broken. I did catch me asking myself "How the FUCK did I stay alive in launch Overwatch?" because it feels like if someone sneezes in your direction, you're already dead :D Overall props for Blizzard to lean into it and let us re-experience it, even if its in a "You think you do, but you don't" kind of way :D I would've liked them to go harder on this like bring OW1 back in its launch state, in a seperate client, with the old UI, but add in the QOL changes we've had over the years like role queue, pings etc. and then move that Classic version of Overwatch forward in a way of "How would we develop Overwatch with all the lessons we've learned?" and kind of create a 'what if'-game. Based on the fast queues it's obvious that a LOT of people are playing this! So there's definitely an audience. Give it the treatment they gave World of Warcraft with WoW Classic.

I've played more of this in the last few days than OW2 in the last 3 months. In this mode there are only 3 heroes (5%) that consistently annoy me: hog, torb, and sym. In the live game there are 14 (33%): Ball, Doom, Hog, Orissa, Torb, Sym, Junk, Moira, Brig, Kiriko, Illari, Mercy, Bap, Lifeweaver.

I love launch overwatch, I am having the time of my life here, I love having the options to try weirder team comps, the option to do 6 soldiers or whatever alone is more fun than anything added in Overwatch 2, and when someone goes a hero I'm bad against, I can just actually swap to counter them instead of being stuck on a role with no options or hoping my teammate swaps off my character. I am the "there's nobody" you mention in this video, and this gamemode is doing numbers because I'm not alone. I would be playing more Overwatch and enjoying it more if they had never updated it once since 2016, and my biggest complaints are features from 2016 that aren't here like the end cards.

Played from launch, I think part of the problem is how too many of the supports can pump out damage AND heals. Give them escape abilities and reduce their damage, so they have to then decide whether to run away (and abandon team) or group up into the team where there is more risk.

I think it serves a great double purpose, for OW1 enjoyers we can experience the nostalgia again and for newer OW2 players they can see where it all began. Some have brought up both OW and Apex (who coincidentally has its own throwback mode) feeling stale in metas, and I think the way OW is doing it by rotating the versions of the game could work as its own standalone mode to solve that.

I was playing supports and it felt like all my reflexes from years ago came back. My buddies and I won almost every match we played yesterday. All I'm getting are flashbacks of having actually functional teams working together with proper attacks. Entire fights were based on the strategy, nothing like how it is now. I've always liked to describe Mercy as Teamfortress 2's Medic turned up to 11. Playing classic Mercy really reminds me of that comparison. Way more than modern Mercy does, she's more mobile than Medic could ever dream to be. In general it really brings home just how slow the original Overwatch was. I think the fluidity we have now is more fun for sure, I'm looking forward to playing more mid-Overwatch states.

My first game of Overwatch Classic... was almost exactly the same. Everyone playing Winston, no limits, spamming voicelines.
