OW should have never catered to the casual crowd. They should have been making updates to dedicated players that actually play the game. Not randoms that log in for an hour 2-3 times per month. It seems like Blizzard gets a lot of money from those account still or else I can't imagine them actually making content for the casual player base. All that said, Marvel Rivals is such a trash game. The higher FPS = stronger abilities bug in OW would cause the community to have a mental breakdown, but since MR is new, they aren't being judged as harshly. However, when 3-6 months passes and the game is still suffering from where the developers clearly rushed development and removed QA entirely. I will not spend time playing an AAA studio game that is made that poorly. It's an insult to the gaming community to be honest that MR didn't take the time to actually develop their game properly. You only get one release, and MR has ruined their long term viability as a result of rushed development.

OW has turned into absolute trash since OW2. I had tried to stay with them and hoping things would get better for a really long time even after ALL my friends quit. Greedy skin pricing, incompleted merging account, not getting ranked rewards(I have opened tickets but no respond), stupid bugs making you disconnected from the match resulting penaltized on my rank, etc. I don't even talking about PvE. I'm glad Marvel Rival released just when I've had enough with OW.

When OW was at its peak player base size (2016-2018) it was a PVP game, and it reached those levels long before PVE was announced. That means all these people claiming to suddenly hate OW b/c they didn't get PVE are full of it. They are claiming that they played a PVP game for 8+ years and didn't quit, yet not getting PVE is the reason they are going to quit now? I don't believe that for one minute. It's more likely it's simply a case of people getting tired of OW over time (which happens to all games), combined with people blindly parroting social media influencers, and the influencers are mad b/c the cancelled PVE meant no extra content for their social media. Also, we have to remember that OW was rating bombed on Steam for reasons entirely unrelated to PVE being cancelled. That was mostly people in China giving OW a bad review b/c Blizzard essentially removed the game from China, so the (massive) Chinese player base responded by negative rating bomb reviewing the game. They timed it wisely to coordinate with the cancellation of PVE, so it would feel like the game was getting these ratings due to the cancellation of PVE, but in reality, that is just Chinese propaganda.

Honestly I think the biggest thing is that rivals feels like it’s designed to be a fun game first rather than a super competitive shooter. Each hero is a lot of fun to play and learn, like even the supports. I no longer have to just heal bot the entire time and can actually fight without throwing the match? Tanks can feel strong and powerful without restricting it to only 1 slot? Each hero actually has mechanics with depth and teamups gives possibilities for fun team comps? While overwatch has its polish its gameplay just can’t compare to the really fun skill curve rivals has and when OW cant even get cosmetics right, it’s easy to see why it’s getting destroyed.

As someone playing marvel rivals the games fun but at the same time after a few weeks it just gets sorta boring now hopefully with every season they release like 3+ characters. The community of marvel rivals is clearly mostly over watch people and that’s not much of a good thing either because it’s so corny how they call themselves “Rank 0” or “Rank 1” player for said hero when there’s literally other players that are better than them with that said hero. They really exposing their own Ego’s. Uh teammates in comp are just really dumb it’s worse than overwatche’s. Speaking of comp the rewards hopefully do get good in the future like gold and blue coins. Another thing is how the community of marvel rivals manipulates players into believing that you just can’t do nothing with this hero when that’s just wrong you can climb with any hero in marvel rivals don’t be deceived by these “Pro players” which are the corny popular people just play who you want, learn them, it’ll take time but you’ll climb with whoever hero you want to climb with easily broken or not, Meta or Not.

overwatch is coming close to fixing itself, it just needs one BIG step, to at least give the community hope things will get better, but theres still that ONE big push they need to make. 5v5 just...has to GO. i was one of the ones giving 5v5 the most chances, thinking it genuinely had some merit, so the fact IM saying it needs to go basically means unless you were a DIE HARD 5v5 supporter, most people just want 6v6 back. i get why they want to alternate between the two, but that just WONT WORK unless they completely streamlined the heros kits. roadhog would need to be reworked back to OG in 5v5, zarya would need both bubbles in 6v6, you CANT make the SAME HERO in two different versions of the game so dramatically different based on which mode your playing, that will alienate everyone moreso then they already do. they need to lower the amount of game modes, get rid of role queue for role lock so queue times increase since those have become BIG problems now, and remove open queue so theres less diversity and thus, more games on the actual game mode. also the new mode(flashpoint i think its called? its 5cp) needs to be fixed. its TOO FAST and too easy to snowball, i think with each cap both teams should be forced into spawn, and begin different "rounds" to cap each point, the closer to their side the cap gets, the faster the team can go to reach that point giving them defenders advantage. basically make it 2cp BUT you only cap 1 point per round. winner is basically first to cap 5 points, or the first to cap the enemys final point.

just a few things worth noting: SR gain/loss used to be performance based in ow1 but they soon realised some players just locked mercy to heal bot and pad their stats so that their SR became massively inflated The cinematics department was unfortunately gutted when pve was canned so getting more high quality 3D cinematics is a dubious prospect at best

- Cheaper battlepass seems like a better idea and able to complete it whenever would make people more likely to buy it even when they cannot fully play a season. - Hide damage/healing #'s on UI until end game is solid as well. I haven't ever felt like checking the scoreboard other then to see if i have high elims or how many deaths my team has. - MVP seems like a solid system and tbh it seems like the player you'd think was the mvp/svp was actually the one. Idk how they decide it yet. It does feel easier for a support to get it though. - Ability to spectate comp with a 1 minute delay is amazing and would be awesome to watch your friends in their comp matches when they're not actively streaming and not everyone uses discord or the many live streaming options. You might also have friends you're not close with as well. - The slight modification to SR Gained/Loss based on performance seems solid as well. Obviously we know the leaderboards don't say much but there is definitely small things they could grab from a match to say you contributed something or you caused something.

The worst thing that OW can do besides nothing is to try to match Marvel Rivals. At this point, they need to try and not just do better than they have been but do better than Rivals. One of the big problems OW has right now is that Marvel Rivals just does pretty much everything OW needs to do. They have the evergreen battle pass, cheaper (and arguably higher quality cosmetics), a bunch of characters at launch and seemingly adding more every season, and they even have a weekly comic book to expand the lore of the game. I think OW has a few levers they can pull to help them. 1) Evergreen battle passes like Rivals has but also sell old BPs. Let people who missed out on previous seasons pick up old ones so they can unlock those cosmetics too. 2) Lore related seasons. S0 in Rivals is the establishing season but they are already building S1 to be about Doom and we will almost certainly have the story event around that. OW needs to lean into the lore and characters that sold people on the original game and actually start telling a story. Stop with these random fantasy or mythology themed seasons and have each season progress the story. 3) More cinematics. Along with the previous point, every season should have a full blown short lore cinematic that sets up the season and pushes the story forward. 4) Make the shop cosmetics permanent. In the same way that they should move away from FOMO for the BP, they should also make it so that all shop cosmetics are always available (save maybe some licensed stuff that they can't for legal reasons or whatever). 5) Overhaul the currency system in the game. The way that they split the coins and the credits and now the mythic credits or whatever; do away with that. Rivals has a very simple currency system and OW should too. You get one premium currency that you can convert into the normal currency which can be used to buy any cosmetic in the game and the only thing that you need the premium currency for is buying the BP. Overall, just really hope that Rivals being around and such a strong force really puts the pressure on Blizzard and OW to be better. Rivals really might be the best thing that's happened to OW players if the Blizzard/Microsoft leadership actually listens.

Players don’t have to constantly adapt, it’s easier to balance (though Blizzard isnt great at that anyway), each character gets their moment in the limelight, and less chance of churning out heroes with too similar of skillsets to be distinct from each other

To be clear there’s no official announcements of characters coming in season 1. All of those are leaks. And it’s unlikely they’re coming in season 1. The theory is Ultron and some/all of the Fantastic Four are coming in Season 1 and that’s it for now

Season 0 battle pass is not the standard. Starting in season 1, seasons will last longer, battle passes will cost $10 instead of $5… and the battle passes will have twice as much content. I only say this because you mention marvel rivals is better with microtransactions because it has a more fair battle pass in which you spend less, but get less. I just think its a poor reason since this will only cost $5 the first month, but I absolutely agree about the cheaper skins thst are still on the expensive side, but its a bundle you get not just a skin. I love marvel rivals, fuck Blizzard

Literally everyone I know who played overwatch quit after that announcement, myself included it was the primary reason we played but it was something too look forward too, it’s more about them breaking a promise and losing faith in them. OW2 has also just been worse then OW in general

Overwatch 2 had all the time to develop what it needed like yes this is a marvel game and the had decades of comic content but if OW would have gave a PVE and explored more of it world wouldn’t be were it is hell if they simply did what they said rivals and OW competition would seem more healthy as less like a sumo wrestler sitting on a featherweight

i had to re download overwatch after playing marval rivals because i think its dog shit. no fixed roles means 5 dps every game and i can never play who i want to play because everyone locks in hela, hawkeye or black panther or any of the other broken heroes i just dont think its fun and its also not fun getting 1 tapped by hawkeye or flanked by a teleporting spiderman i prefer overwatch because it feels more balanced and team comps make way more sense
