Tastes Like Shakkar… the male group of friends/relatives are more diverse and interesting than I usually find in Romance, and their dialogue is funny.

The Book of Azrael!! One of my highest rated books for 2024. I adored this. It's a book I found that you can't read quickly or skim read otherwise you miss a lot or don't absorb all the little details, which means things feel very choppy and sudden because you miss all the subtext that contribute to the plot and relationship building. I found I needed to take a break every 30-50 pages just to fully process and absorb what was happening with not only the storyline, but also where the two main characters headspace was as there was a lot of mental health rep discussing PTSD, burnout and depression. There is so much character development and progress in the two main characters. The author did a really good job filling the deadspace with meaningful insight and text, and not a lot of waffle. It wasn't an easy read by any means, but it was definitely one where I really appreciated the writing style and storytelling. I'm keen to re-read TBoA this year and move onto the rest of the series. I'm sure i'll pick up things that I missed in the first read.
