I really enjoy your content and your reviews and comparisons , you always give accurate advice . This Ovonic charger has to be made like alot of them in the same factory as the Gens Ace and ISDT chargers , almost the same with only the slightest differences , with the menu and features . All good chargers which i have or had at one point . My Gens Ace and ISDT are both great so the Ovonic must be good too .

I really appreciate you taking the time to share the feedback! Thank you It sounds like you really know your stuff! I have a Gens Ace IMARS D300 I have also tested and I like it a little more (like you said, it is very similar). The biggest difference I can think of other than it being a little more powerful (and expensive) is that it allows you to discharge down to 3.0v per cell and the Ovonic only allows you to discharge to 3.5v per cell. For most people this may not be an issue but for me, when I do battery testing, I need to take them down to 3.3 or 3.4v.... which means in reality I have to take them a little lower than that as after sitting they will rebound slightly. I know nothing about ISDT so I need to check them out! Thanks!

@@BriansRCStuff Actually the ISDT charger is the best for the money and they have other items like parallel boards , smaller field chargers , etc. all built with real good quality and worth checking out although you might find you already have the charger but its called Ovonic . The Gens Ace charger i just bought based on your review on that same kitchen table because i have a few of their Basher V2 smart batteries , which are high performing and worth testing with what appears to be a closer C rating

@@BriansRCStuff Dont mean to bother you again but there is an update on these ISDT chargers i raved about , dont buy one . Was using it to charge a 3s pack and overcharged it to 13.4 volts although the charger wouldnt pass 4.16 volts a cell and kept going , manual voltage shows other wise and charger wont read pack due to over voltage . Charger in the garbage and so glade i got the Gens Ace charger , should of use it instead but thought the ISDT could do the job , charges battery real quick but too quick i guess .

@@BriansRCStuff I was able to pull the voltage down to storage by starting with the LiHV setting down to 4.0 volts a cell then the charger would read it on Lipo setting then finished to 3.8 across all cells . Whats your opinion , this has never happened in the years of charging batteries , no puffing no fire and battery appears fine but i am worried , should i be ?

Will charging those 5.2 amp batteries at 8 amps hurt them? I know in the days of nicd and nimh you can do a high amp charge to those but I’ve heard it’s bad to do anything more than 1c .. also I’ve never put my batteries in storage, do you see a problem with that. I just let them be at either discharged lipo cutoff or fully charged. You’re the battery guru so thought I’d ask

From what I have read charging at 1C is more ideal and should be easier on the LIPO/make it be able to have a longer life with less degradation. I am not exactly sure if that means you would lose 10% of your capacity and performance after 300 cycles vs 150 but I usually charge at 1C because I dont' like the idea of possibly loosing performance. Most of the newer LIPOs will say in their instructions you can charge at up to 2C or 5C.... so it is up to you and what you feel comfortable with in the end. I haven't see any hard data and I am sure it would vary from one LIPO to another depending on its chemistry/makeup and such. If in a rush, I don't see any issue charging at 2C though.... I just don't do it.😀

@@BriansRCStuff I’m more worried about a lipo fire than anything. I always do 1c charge just to be safe

@@IowaBudgetRCBashersall my LiPos are 1c Multi-cell lipo packs made to charge at 2c or higher seems sus to me. It's possibly unsafe marketing BS. Even the fastest smartphone battery chargers are only 60 watt, and that's for a single cell. Like you said, safety is way better than convenience. I'd much rather sit around for an extra hour waiting for a charge, compared to having a fire, and even if your cells don't start a fire, the toxic gases released from unsafe overcharging is a huge amount. I don't trust 5c or even 2c charging.

At least tge balance ports are next to the battery connector and on the front. My imex has em on the side and all my leads are short

I would try it. I like their orange lipo's. If the quality is along the lines of their batteries, should be a good charger.

I have tried their orange LIPOs but I assume they are higher performing than the 50C green ones I have tested. Yeah, I think it should hold up well. It seems well made.👍

In the process of looking for a new charger. All my batteries at ec5 so i like that it has those connectors. When storing a battery, I always run my batteries till the LVC stops the cars. Would it take hours to store them running them that low?

If you like this Ovonic charger, I just tested one that has the same operating system but is more powerful (for charging and discharging) and has a few other features that I liked better. The Ovonic has done me well, but I like my new charger even better! kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYDXdmZ4aZiDg6M No, you will get up to storage voltage quickly. If you charge at 1C, you should have no problem getting from LVC to storage voltage in well under an hour. Discharging is what is painfully slow on the Ovonic and still slow... but twice as quick with the Gen's Ace I just tested. Where I run into problems with it taking a long time getting them to storage voltage is when I do speed runs and the LIPO may have 4 volts per cell left in it. To get it down to 3.8v per cell takes some time....

I just looked though, the Ovonic is on a good sale so unless you need the extra discharge power or unless you are going to be charging high capacity 6s LIPOs, that Ovonic charger will also do you well!

@@davidzizelman2061 Thank you man! I really appreciate it! The Gen's Ace charger in the link just came out like 2 weeks ago (they had a slightly lower powered one before). I was so excited to get an opportunity to test it. Between it and the Ovonic, I am happy as can be! I think you will be pleased too. I will have to check out the Venom. I hear they have good stuff but I have never used one.
