@BriansRCStuff
@BriansRCStuff 2 күн бұрын
You could but I would go with a larger LIPO. A 1,500 mAh is really undersized for the Thunder. Though, the Thunder's motor gets hot pretty quickly on 3s so you will likely have to let it cool down every 5 min or so... so a small LIPO wouldn't a major handicap as you could just change it when it is cooling (a cooling fan and heat sink is a good idea to minimize the heat). If you want a great LIPO, I would get this one. a.co/d/hay2iXT It is on sale for $37 which is a great price for such a high performance LIPO. It does have a EC5 plug on it though so if you can't solder/don't have someone to do it for you, that could be an issue.

I just had this happen to me, although I have no idea how. I charged a 3S 1800 (fullpower is the name of the brand) to 4.5V on a single output charger (hota d6 pro), with no option to even go that high, and also charged other 2 batteries and those were fine. Still confused, but I only noticed when back home like 6-8h later, and no swelling or heating was noticed. Now it's back to storage and inside a bat box, I wonder if it's still good too. It took 4.75Ah to discharge it back to 3.8V per cell, I'm surprised, confused and impressed...

4S, 16,8V times 4400 gives you 73920rpm on the motor, which is claimed capable of max 50000. It's only a budget motor, not best epoxy, not best balancing, not best tolerances, not best bearings. So we should assume, it's NOT capable of 50k rpm safely and with durability. Let alone a 1,5 times that. You wanna shatter that motor into pieces, go ahead and run it at 4S
@BriansRCStuff
@BriansRCStuff 3 күн бұрын
I appreciate your concern and you are not wrong that the motor will be stressed. Yes, its life may be short lived. That being said, your math is way off as you are forgetting to take into account 2 important factors. First is voltage sag. Running a spicy setup like this on a small 4s LIPO will mean a lot of voltage sag. The voltage of the LIPO will dip to around 3.5v per cell during a speedrun. 3.5 x 4 = 14V. 14 x 4,400 = 61,600 rpm. Now, that is faster than the motor would like to spin, but during a speedrun you are only at max rpm for a few seconds (about 5). But, there is a another factor you are not considering. Under load, the rpm will be lower than when you simply assume that the motor will spin at its full 4,400kv rating like it would not mounted in a car. Factor in the load on the motor, the rpm will be at roughly 50,000 rpms. I have tested MANY LIPOs on my channel and have an ESC with full telemetry data and have seen this over and over again. Also, I have run several budget 4s motors that are rated around 4,350 to 4,600kv on 4s for speedruns. Provided you only do 1 run at a time and let the motor cool down after each run, they have been fine after many 4s pulls. So again, while the motor would be stressed and it is not ideal, and the motor life will likely be shortened, it would not be spinning anywhere near 74,000 rpms and spinning near or even above 50,000 rpms does not mean the motor is going to "shatter into pieces".

I managed 50MPH on 3s on 70mm diameter wheels, video on my channel. Need to have a look to figure out a way to install a smaller SPUR gear.

I bet an 18t would be an ideal fit but I am glad i was just able to get a 19t in there (I didn't have an 18t on hand... I would have had to go all the way down to 16t if this didn't work). I am thinking 75mm tires are a little bigger than my AIMROCK tires but a little smaller than the stock tires that came on this truck (I am not sure they will handle 60 mph though). I hope to get it out this weekend to run it. Was your motor mount and everything basically the same? A smaller spur would be great! I haven't looked to hard yet (I looked pretty hard for my 2997A but did not find anything).

@TheSpeedySpot 5 күн бұрын
@BriansRCStuff I just corrected my post , the wheels I used were 70mm diameter for the 50mph run. I did try some 85mm wheels, but it was very tricky to drive on those. But yeah I did exactly like you have done with the stock motor mount. I actually slotted the holes though. I have not tested but I think the MJX aftermarket adjustable motor mount may work too. There's really no room to go any bigger on the pinion , unless you start chopping the chassis and use a custom motor mount. It was just a bit of fun to be honest using parts I had laying around from other projects. I might have to give it another try on some slightly larger wheels! Good luck 👍

@@TheSpeedySpot Impressive stuff! Did yours also come with a 14t pinion stock? Yours sounds just like mine and sounds REALLY good! Fund little trucks.... I am going to try those AIMROCK tires as they are a channel "sponsor" and I bet it will get up in the mid 50s on them. I am going to have to run a bigger tire to go faster. I am kind of scared to run the stock tires but I will probably give them a go. Then I have some 104mm Arrma Hoons knock offs I may try lol. To hit 56.9 with the stock pinion I used 100 mm foam tires.

Yes stock pinion was a 13 or 14T on my FTX tracer.

@BriansRCStuff After our messages i went back out and did 60mph! Was pretty amusing seeing my tyres balloon and trying to control the car. So now I'm sure you'll get it, maybe slightly more too! Look forward to seeing your next video.

lower it a bit and install a cheap gyro and you will be able to keep it straight..

It is already lowered but it causes issues with the front suspension geometry. I don't think a gyro will work as the trucks is so slopy I think it will make the gyro go nuts. Thanks for the ideas though. I got it up to 75 mph in my newest video on the truck!

I have many different cars ..believe me unless that car is setup badly or linkage is a sloppy mess a gyro will make the car run a nice straight line. Off course it may be a bad servo,crappy road or the way you drive also...built my first rc car almost 40 years ago..

@@roadstar499 and these cars everything is a sloppy mess… I ran a gyro in my 16890a with limited success… So I guess I might as well try it in 2997a.😎

So how do i connect the cnhl battery
@BriansRCStuff
@BriansRCStuff 7 күн бұрын
Sorry, what do you mean? Are you saying how do you connect it when it comes with a XT 60 connector? You could either purchase an adapter, which is not an ideal solution but will work. or solder on a Dean connector. Or you could solve her on XT 60 for your ESC if you prefer. If you do not know how to solder, maybe you have a friend that could help you or possibly your local hobby shop would do it for a small fee.

@@DON-JULIO-FISHING If you have any questions, I would be happy to try to help! I was in the same boat as you just a couple years ago and slowly started posting videos getting my vintage cars working again. If you are looking for a 3S battery, do not get the 1500 for your thunder. It is too small. If you need help picking an appropriate battery, just let me know! I tested the small battery in the thunder just because it is a stable platform that would put a relatively high load on it.

@@DON-JULIO-FISHING very good! Just make sure you get a larger 3s… 5000 to 6500 would be a good size. when you solder, make sure you do one wire at a time to avoid possibly damaging the battery the wires touch.😎

Do they sell the CNHL batteries like this with a Dean connection? If not, anyway, you could shoot me a link for the adapter? I would really appreciate it, buddy.

Sadly I only saw the 2s version with Deans. I solder on new connectors to mine (adaptors will get you by but if you are going for speedruns it is not a good idea as they add resistance and can melt if you go too crazy with the amp draw). What are you looking to run this LIPO in? I would recommend going with a much larger LIPO if it is in the Thunder but this LIPO would be excellent in a smaller RC truck.

@@BriansRCStuff well I've got a thunder coming back from Britt with an upgraded ESC that can run up to 4S. Just have to get a cooling fan for the motor. Do have an MJX hyper go H 16 BM and should have an upgraded sonic and a 2997A that I am purchasing from Britt.
