When u click on your profile I can see it’s a silver border acc which means you played on it quite a bit in ow1. 4400 in ow1 is the equivalent of GM1 in ow2, the algorithm didn’t do anything special but put u where u were last. You are making it seem like u made a new acc, won 50 games, played your placements for the first time in that acc’s history, and got GM1 instantly. That not how it works lol

I would also assume other specific stats like anti grenades landed, saves with bap lamp, discord orb usage etc… When I play on alt accounts with genji if my deaths per 10 are high and my blade kills are low I usually get placed lower down. I’m masters 1 on main and gold 4 - plat 2 on alt accounts.

@@ever611 I actually experienced this and I’ve been playing since ov1. Like 2019. I wanted to start when it originally came out wasn’t able to just grateful I was able to play. Even then the matchmaking system isn’t working how it’s supposed to. I play as a team player to be honest and understand the counters to each picks the opposing team has. Again QP affecting your ranking matchmaking or anything ranked related doesn’t and shouldn’t even make sense. When has any other game had a ranked and non ranked system and they tell you what you’ve told me. There’s not point of playing ranked or having a ranked system if that’s the case. And what happened with the Top 500 players these past recent months relating to mmr decay! It’s all love. God Bless you!

Placement matches mean nothing, they will always place you slightly above or below your last season no matter your win/loss ratio. After like 3 placements on that alt, I was put in GM, where that account still sits comfortably at GM3 and my main is at GM4 rn.

@@julienprenevost3235 Actually, the reason is because my main had much more data for the algorithms to class and sort through. All the days and weeks I spent being brand new and shit at the game? That was tracked and logged for that account. The system had more data of me doing poorly from all the time when I was piss poor and new to current moments, on top of the climb in improvement. There was more bad/out dated data the system couldn't account for due to the longer history of the account. The new account, I, immediately, started playing at a Diamond-Masters level, and winning most matches out of 7, so it primarily had sets of data that showed I was in the "upper tier" of the player-base statistically, without any filler data from when I had no idea what was going on, keeping the overall accounts lifetime stats locked into something that was lower than the actual, more up to date, median range. So, a few games I did very well in on the main? That wasn't tracked as an average match for that rank, because there were weeks I spent going 10-10 in QP and losing at the very beginning of that accounts lifetime. (Remember, the comp system in OW does track your initial QP stats for your first cycle or so, that's where your initial MMR comes from in comp). Those matches where I did well, within a specific placement cycle, was just looked at more like edge cases in the grand scheme of things. The new account, just for an example of how this works; I main Tracer, so say I, on this new account, went something like 20-3 in a Plat 1 lobby on Tracer and win, the system will very quickly recognize this, both the hero chosen, my stats with that specific character, (this previous part is where a lot of confusion comes in, within the community) and the outcome of the match, say I perform roughly the same for 4/5 matches for the very first placement cycle, and because of my initial QP MMR, it knows, just from those initial comp games, I'm at minimum somewhere around Diamond 4, (because of how the ranked MM works and the max rank you can get for your very first cycle). Then I win some more in the next placement cycle, then suddenly the anti smurfing system kicks in, so maybe you get bumped super high up compared to where your account "should be", and if you win after that, you'll only really gain more and more SR per win. So then, this leads to the question of "but then why was I suddenly able to put my main up to GM, after the alt?" I think this was largely due to the amount of time and rank/MMR decay that happened in those seasons. Over time, how well the system would expect that account to perform, would decline lower and lower, then when I suddenly come back and am performing at a much higher level, the level that I'd perform at, say, every other match when the system would consider it more of an edge case, due to the long (relative) history of me going anywhere from not knowing the game at all, to having an idea, and so on; the system had a much easier time bumping me up. *TL;DR is, these things are very complex, and there are even many more things that could be discussed/explained here, but really, the fact is, in the end, someone will have a much easier time climbing on an alt, than their main that they've had for some exponentially amount of time longer, because of the overall range of stats.*

It just depends. An account gets locked into an elo. If wanted were to play on your account he would have to play hundreds of games to climb out of your elo, because the game has cemented you there. You may notice that you may go up a few tiers but seemingly regardless of performance, the game has it out for your account. My best way to describe this issue was I was hard stuck diamond 1 and low masters on my main account for YEARS. It wasn’t until I switched onto another account that I easily made my way to GM. I was playing against top500 players as a diamond 1, and the game wasn’t giving me credit for it… for example it was acting as if I was just facing diamond 1’s.

Dude the ranking system is based off of your gameplay in ow1 and quick play. Statistically he probably played a lot worse than you and was carried throughout his games in qp and ranked. He probably matched against lower elo and won more but showed the same skills levels compared to the players he was matched up against. Meanwhile you had tougher competition and lost more but still played better than him. OW2’s ranking system isn’t even that bad. People just base it off of who won more rather than your performance individually which is what the game is basing your ranked on. (winning too but mostly individual performances)

Now, I was originally GM5 at my highest before I quit and other than that always ended up masters or GM every season on my accounts. I took a break from for 2 seasons, came back this season all fresh and all I played was DPS in QP and my first comp game was masters 1 MMR. Couldn't beleive my eyes. I was tryna get at least somewhere within gold placements so I can earn back a decent rank because I felt I didn't deserve a higher rank currently, but I get instantly tossed into high elo and I didn't feel ready for it yet.

I went for a soldier only account and on my second placement game after getting 50 QP wins was playing in a GM/high masters lobby... make it make sense 😭

You just cant make all people happy. This gm1 means that all players won't have to deal with so many smurfs. This is great. Ow2 ranked is MUCH better than ow1, without any doubt.

3 football players line up to run the same route.. ones in high school, ones in college and the other is in pros. If they’re all wearing the same jersey and running the same route you can still see clear as day which is which. I think overwatch has a code that tracks movement and that’s how you get placed. If you’re hitting shots and have a tight route it’s no surprise

I think it just increases your mmr rapidly for wins when unranked then the losses decrease it until it puts you at what it sees as a suitable rank

I personally like the new ranking system. Mainly cause If you get placed somewhere kinda low you have a really hard time getting out even if you practice for a while and get fairly good due to team mates. Only way to get out in old system really was by carrying whole team in that situation or making a new account.

They have been implementing systems to detect Smurfs, which tracks ip/hwid/past logins on the pc etc. Its not fully there yet.

It was either season 7 or 8 but i literally did not play a single match all season and all my ranks shot UP a few places. After that i quit taking it seriously and just have fun in quickplay now.

I made 2 brand new accounts and placed gm1 s5 and s6. It’s because it takes in account how well you do in qp and if you do really well it sets your unranked comp games into masters/gm

When I started playing again after the rank adjustment they did a while back, I was weirded out by how I was now in diamond on DPS but gold on tank, since tank is definitely my stronger role. But I thought the rank adjustments might have been goofy or something. So I played a few tank games just fucking around thinking "ok it's cool I'll just get back up to my old rank" and then after about 5 games, when I ranked up to gold 2, one of my buddies looks at my profile and says you dumbass you're in masters. So now the problem kinda became the opposite: I was now wondering how I got into masters 2 so easily. Don't get me wrong I thought I could make it there eventually; I just thought I'd have to get a bit better at blocking shatters. So ranks have been a little silly lately (in my experience).

Been saying this since the S1 of OW2. Was diamond in OW 1, got placed in Bronze. What I learned while trying to grind back to diamond was the placement of your matches make 0 difference on ranking up progress. If you’re Gold 3 and your buddy is Plat 2 and you duo and get placed in a Plat 3 lobby, you winning that lobby will have no more of an impact on your ranking up than getting placed and winning in a Gold 2 lobby. Idiotic system.

I quit OW2 for this exact reason. Playing support I out haled my teammate while also doing considerable damage and was never able to hit above gold.

When you play quick play, think of it as a placeholder for comp. It will see how you play in quickplay and translate it over to competitive. It took your 50 games to unlock comp and uses that data to place you in lobbies closer to your skill level. So if you play at a skill that is around GM, you'll be more likely to play in matches that have GM players.

I think it all depends on the rank of the lobbies that you play in during ur rank ups. I played with my friend in ranked for the first ever time and his lobbies were all Diamond ranked then I got placed d5 for my first rank on the account. But when I played by myself for Dps I was placed gold

I have people in my friends list that have been low to mid silver since early seasons of OW, they get 1 win in their placement in ow2 and they're now master 2 and playing only a few games every season to try and lock that rank in place lmao

The reason this happens is because qp mmr is factored into ranked mmr on fresh accounts. If you win 90% of your games while getting your 50 required wins to play comp, you are automatically put in gm1.

Yeah man. When I first played the game, like I started 2 months ago and I placed plat. Then when I made an alt account for trolling, I placed diamond. I haven’t even played all the game modes yet. 💀
