This brings me back to when I was in juvenile detention. I was a horrible, disrespectful child. I regret everything I said and did to my friends, family, most importantly my parents. When I was in a placement center, I listened to old Owl City albums when I could. His beautiful music kept my spirits up when my times were darkest. This brings tears to my eyes, a mix of happy, sad, and hope. Hope that my future will be bright, that I might be able to put my past to rest. Thank you, Adam Young, for everything you have given me.

Yooooo Lucid Dream is the stuff I feel like this song in general is his nod towards that innocent, dreamy attitude and stage he went through in 2008-2010, when he wrote Ocean Eyes and ATBB. I love it so much.

Aside from the out-of-place "All My Friends", he seems to finally be returning to the whimsical, idiosyncratic electronica sound of Ocean Eyes and All Things Bright and Beautiful. But adding the pop sensibilities of the past couple of albums. I think this is a nice compromise. It sounds like an evolution of the first two albums, with the poppiness of his last two albums. I've been disillusioned with Owl City since The Midsummer Station, which wasn't all bad ("Good Time", "Dementia", "I'm Coming After You", and "Metropolis" were the highlights), but he mostly abandoned his creative, dreamy lyrics and sound for a mainstream, generic EDM pop sound. But ever since his movie score side project, he seems to finally be exercising some creativity in his music again. Especially lyrically. Lyrically and musically, these songs finally sound like Owl City again. I'm happy, and for the first time in years, I'm eagerly anticipating an Owl City album. But seriously, fuck "All My Friends". But the rest is such an improvement, I'll forgive it. The dreamy synths and abstract, whimsical lyrics are back, so that's all I really ask for from an Owl City record.

The only logical explanation i can think of is this song is probably the most mainstream and unlike Owl City on here, so he released this first as a reach to the mainstream audience whilst lowering the Owl City fan base's expectations, meaning when we hear the rest of the album we're blown away with how its what we've been asking for from him for years. I hope this is true, because if it is, Adam is a genius!

I think one of the things from listening to these songs is that they actually have really good meaning within the lyrics. Honestly, we need more truth in songs now than ever before. Yes! Great songs can come from catchy choruses, but I think it better to have a story or meaning behind the song. Who agrees? These songs are so relatable to life. :)

He used a lot of compression on this album. One thing I don’t like is he used the same melody in 3 of his songs, but other than that, love the drums and synths. Glad to see he’s wanting to go back to his younger days of creativity.

I feel like he's used less compression on this album. There's a bit more dynamic range in comparison to Ocean Eyes and ATBAB. Feels like he used EQ well on this album to create more space. He also isn't using Autotune's Graph Mode anymore like on Ocean Eyes, he's now using melodyne more naturally. Gives him a more polished modern sound I think.
