Wow! That was a beautiful place. I need to leave my cave and see the sun again... I'm considering buying a campervan/RV and visiting parks on weekends. Also, I'm planning on building a teardrop camper for a bicycle so I can start riding a bicycle and camp with my dog. Your enthusiasm and appreciation for nature are inspiring me to leave my cave. Thank you Pops

Beech trees used to be one of my favorite trees to climb. The ones that are kind of young have branches low enough start up on. I heard about a new disease problem for the beech trees it's suppose to be caused my a nematode. When coming across an old dump site like that it's time to shift gears from naturalist to archeologist/anthropologist. Nice little clip of a Ruby Crowned Kinglet. I'm a big fan of Kinglets both Ruby Crowned and Golden Crowned, they lift my spirits. Tiny winter birds that don't seem like they should be able to exist, miraculous.

The bottle at about 4:35 is a returnable milk bottle (sometimes juice in these too). They were delivered to homes by dairies every couple days when I was younger. That’s a great creek valley. I hope the beech there are safe from the Beech leaf disease. It’s in our area now and, like the ash, it’s hitting them hard. I’m so fortunate to see owls regularly where I live. I’m always amazed by their silent flight. Another enjoyable video. Thanks for the look around. Ohh, glad you’re getting a little time for yourself. Have fun! 🙂

I'm glad you got to get out for another adventure, that is a great creek, and everyone can see that it makes you happy. I've had a lot of amazing run ins with wildlife while out by myself through the years . Some were almost like dreams or spiritual experiences and I've contemplated the native theology that every thing has a spirit and is connected at a level up from where people (mostly) operate today. While driving one night I saw a small rabbit crossing the road and slowed a little. About the instant the poor fellow reached the center line a huge owl appeared out of nowhere and snatched him up and flew off all while illuminated by my headlights and close, like 20 ft ahead of me. I don't see them often but I think the broken sycamore branch you showed had a old nesting cavity, there was the hole near where it had broken. Its cool how much you like trees most are clueless and do not know one from another

@jeffphillips73 wow what a crazy experience! 😬 I have also thought about animals possibility having spirits. Who knows. I just feel very connected to trees amd animals and rocks
@jeffphillips732 ай бұрын
@@PACreekWalker Everything in this universe is connected just some sense it more than others I suppose. I found my first arrowhead when I was 6. Trees are basically my life, I have salvaged trees and logs and reclaimed lumber into furniture and much more to try and save the ones that are growing for 20+ yrs, and could tell stories of animal encounters for days. Again, thanks for the adventure videos, I don't know how you get time to with kids and work and life, glad you have some support to get a little break for yourself to get outside

Your dump has bottles in the mid 1960’s and 70’s. Not that old enough to collect sadly. But….you could find some cool metal things, old oil cans, beer soda cans, buckets, pans, toys

because of several of the comments and seeing how much you like them....arguably one of the most beautiful and enchanting scenes would be a pure beech forest late in October with a blue , crystal clear sky, late in the evening but still a bright sun. The lower leaves are still green, fading as they go up to the brighter green and then all yellow on the tips, contrasting the smooth , grey bark. I don't know if its happening there, but if what is happening here with these two diseases-beech bark and beech leaf disease- continues , you may be crying. I want to. I steward some sections of forest land and noticed something wrong with some beech trees and they didn't look right. The next year they didn't put out new leaves and had died. In the 5 years since there have been a LOT of these and this year in mid summer I saw many more of these affected. I don't think they have very much immunity. If you see one with the leaves turning color way too early, watch out. I really don't see a good ending to this. First the chestnut blight, probably the most significant human induced ecological disaster ever, Dutch elm disease, the hemlock adelgid devastated our area, the emerald ash borer recently also, and now this.
@OneFiveGsus2 ай бұрын
Them emerald ash borers are certainly boring the emeralds out of the ash 'round these parts. Gotta be wary when consistently stiff winds kick up, for the taller examples of ash tend to shear off at about a third to a half way up...usually.
