Have you played any of these 6 games? And if so, what would be your verdict? Which games would you like to see us cover in future episodes, old or new?

So clover sold out but I know it's gonna be a blast to play for my group. Mandala is so fun for a 2p abstract

The mechanism from Corrosion is also in The Networks. You play a show into a time slot, then it grows in ratings before the ratings drop and you have to replace it.

I play two-player games often and like games with a quick rules teach and deep strategy. I also like pretty games, so I'm going to take a look at Mandala. (P.S. I'm going to pull out Friday and give it a go today....it's been a while. Thanks for the reminder!)
@AllYouCanBoard2 жыл бұрын
Right on, I think if you haven't played Friday in a while it should be fun, and hopefully still challenging even if you've beaten it.

Ingenious is a nice game. I like to add the option for each player to switch out his tiles one time, and one time only, after placing a tile. Must switch out all. This to combat the bad luck of never getting a color.
@AllYouCanBoard2 жыл бұрын
Interesting! I haven't played it yet but I'll keep this in mind for when I get to try Dylann's copy. I normally don't add any house rules to games, but maybe this one makes sense. - Carlo

I love these episodes. I see kingdom builder on your shelf. Can you do one of these episodes with Kingdom Builder and Winter Kingdom? I want to know if they are both own, both play, or if one is own and the other is not.
@AllYouCanBoard2 жыл бұрын
Glad you asked! We're actually planning to do a video that just compares both games, but we've only played Winter Kingdom once so far. We need to get in a bunch more plays but we'll definitely do a video on those at some point in the coming months. - Carlo

Great sum up guys! Mandala was already in the picture but just moved up my wishlist! Same for So Clover, the fact that there is simultaneous play is a big plus IMO. I don't know if either of you own it or even heard of it, but I would be really interested in hearing about your opinions on War Chest! It is a mix of bagbuilding + chesslike, which seems an odd but intriguing combination. Would love to hear what you think about it, and how it holds up against other abstracts.

I needed one more game for free shipping and decided to buy Cascadia instead of waiting for so clover to come back into stock. It's my birthday gift to myself (Cascadia, Dune Imperium, Long shot the dice game, isle of cats roll and write).

Thanks, Bas! Glad to hear Dylann got you (even more) excited for Mandala and So Clover! We don't own War Chest but we know about it, I think Dylann was considering getting it not too long ago. I had it on my wishlist a long time ago but when the Undaunted games came out, I decided to go with one of those instead since they're similar games by the same designers, but more thematic, and deck-building instead of bag-building. I've played Undaunted: North Africa a few times and it's really good. If and when we play War Chest we'll try to discuss it on the channel! - Carlo

I think Ingenious looks really interesting and totally agree about Mining Colony! Even though I got trounced I kind of want to go back to it and see if I can do better. Finally, Friday is really interesting as well, never really even heard of it! Thanks for video guys!

Good stuff. On the topic of solo games, I think it comes down to the variability in the puzzle. With low variability competitive games like Chess, the replay value comes almost entirely from the unpredictability of your opponent, as you mentioned. But in a solo game, there are a lot of things the design can do to inject variability so that you are solving a similar but different puzzle than last time. I know, for me personally, I find solo games with a win/loss condition more satisfying than a "beat your high score" formula, but I really want there to be that variability for me to keep coming back. I haven't played it yet, but I think Final Girl is a good example of a win/loss solo game that keeps you coming back due to variability. I think a game like Friday relies on the deck shuffle being enough for you to feel like you are solving a fresh puzzle.

I definitely enjoyed it more playing solo compared to playing with more players, and there were a lot of things I liked about it, but those 2 issues (too long - it should be no more than 90 minutes but preferably 60-75, and also I don't like those final scoring objectives) prevent me from liking it more. I think it's a cool game and I'm very interested in what this designer does next. - Carlo
