I ordered the english version of Robi, and I am very excited :). l like the things he does, especially the fact he can be used for a timer. Supposedly , he's does more commands than what the commercial shows.

This is especially the case for the English model, which knows only about 200 words out of the many tens of thousands of words in the English lexicon. That being said, a robot/AI as cute as Robi that understands natural language as well as a human would probably be worth billions of dollars, which is a bit beyond my budget.

***** For 18 months. It takes a year and a half to receive the full robot. The worst part about DIY robots is that the programming does not account for user error, so KZbin is replete with videos of Robi falling over or burning out -- I've seen a video where smoke came out of his arm during a dance, and then he basically died. 18 x $80 = $1440 too much for something that does not function as intended.

It look cool but I'm wondering if its somewhat sentient. For example does it map out it's surroundings and wander around them. I would be awesome if it could learn speech patterns as-well which it probably can't.

Nothing is self aware that is based on computer programming or ever well be, the ingrediates are anti-thetical to sentience, no matter how much more of the ingrediates you throw into the design or how complicated it becomes, though one day it might get complicated enough to fool a lot of people into thinking it is. Many think it will be possible one day, especially atheists because they have a inferior definition of sentience based on doing things rather then being and awareness, and its why we have not produced any true sentient artificial intelligence to this day, and if we throw billions and billions of more dollars at it, if that funding is for making a self aware being, those dollars will be better off spent or used as toilet paper, though said computers might be very very useful for many things. Though to be honest that toy is, really cool. >_< I want buy one for my niece.
