I really like the point scoring system, it's very useful for someone who is still contemplating which board to get. I am a little confused though. I thought it was either someone gets a point and the other doesn't or they get one each. But can't understand why Evolve gets a 2+ for brakes and not just. 1+. Also I think if you were doing this system fairly, Ownboard should have been awarded a 1+ for price. I understand what you're saying but it is half the price! Not giving them 1+ for that just seems harsh. The only other point you might have awarded is a provisional one for support for Ownboard if buying from Slick Revolution as they too get the same support you mention for Evolve. Other than that I agree with you but does appear a little bias in places.
@jday42174 жыл бұрын
So I think you're final scores were 10 - 4 to Evolve. I'd have it as 9 - 6 if I've got your final scores correct.

Hey guys, love the quality as always. Good disclaimer that it is the old version of ownboard. I love mine but yes, the acceleration and breaking are not super smooth. My old boosted was butter compared to the ownboard (new version) the breaking is wierd, it starts soft and gets stronger and stronger which is nice so you can brace a little but I have had to jump off twice when people cut me off. Suggestion, compare similar priced boards, compare the vestar with the ownboard, backfire. People looking at the ownboard I believe just don't want to spend $2k. Im one of those. If something ever happens to my board I'm installing a vesc to get more juice out of the control and battery. Something that an evolve will never be able to get done. There is a channel here in KZbin of some guys that did that switch and you see them destroy gtrs up hills. Keep up the quality of videos but do expand the boards you compare with.

The point scoring doesn't really seem to work. Ownboard got more range, (also against a 6 inch setup on the evolve) but both awarded a point? Ownboard wins on price? No point awarded? Great video but very 1 sided. don't get me wrong Evolve are one of the best but still have a lot of cons. Love your content and keep it up! Just giving you some honest feedback! If you haven't put Evolve tires on the OB Bamboo, you might want to for the best comparison, mate. Worlds of difference, I run Evolve 7s (66T) on mine. Pneumatics actually give more torque than the honeycombs cause they don't compress too much. As far as acceleration, I think you may be a bit starry-eyed over Evolve's bottom-end torque, but it only has more at the very beginning. I've used both boards extensively, and mid/high-end torque between the two is more or less identical. You might want to consider that caveat. And when you add that Evolve boards can be literal deathtraps - one buddy had six disconnects/brake lock-ups within a month of GTR ownership - the equation changes further. The OB's Hobbywing will lock brakes on a remote disconnect, yes, but the remote never disconnects for any Hobbywing user ever....whereas Evolve... Just some thoughts, love your reviews more generally
@bryancrane8214 жыл бұрын
You ever had your gtr remote disconnect? I ask because I haven't even once in over 1.5k miles (many more but stopped recording). I know the old ones did. I am genuinely curious if it's your experience or if you're making a comment about essentially a different board than the one compared,the gtr. I have two friends with gtr too. Not 1 disconnect between us. I know if fully charged you cant brake and acts like a disconnect but doesnt...
@emilydavis8424 жыл бұрын
@@bryancrane821 oh I'm talking about the newer GTRs alright :) I'm a serious eskater, mixing up board models would be sacrilege lol. And yes, I've also had it disconnect on me. My friend just got it back from whatever repairs they did, hopefully that fixed his. Evolve will tell you they 'fixed' the old model disconnect problems, but from all I see in person and on Reddit, some GTRs still do it, just less frequent overall. Glad you've got a good one, it seems! (Unjinx)

I'm a bit late to the party but towards the end there you were talking about checking the servicing situation and all that -- I thought that might be a good topic for a video. A general brand support review, if they have pre-sales support you can contact for questions, after-sales support or how their warranties are handled (domestic or not like you mentioned) could maybe touch on things like shipping times (I saw a board with 30-50 days shipping estimate recently) or prices (costs $150 to get anything from backfire in some locations). I think a longform video covering some of the common brands would have some impact. I'm sorta well-versed in google-fu so I've been able to get answers to my questions but some of these websites are absolutely un-intuitive and filled with out-dated information and I can only imagine newbies getting confused and regretting their purchase later. I even emailed a few brands like backfire about their stuff and haven't heard back despite my weekly bump of the email chain, so if 'amazing support' brands can have trouble being accessible, I think a well researched video would remain relevant for a significant amount of time

Verreal RS 19.2ah is $1079 USA dollars, and will outperform the gtr in every category including acceleration/range/torque/top speed/braking power ! But, the gtr will win in the deck composition since its flexy adding to ride comfort. I think this will be a great video for the future! A comparison between these two.

@Ro-12-214 жыл бұрын
True. There is a lot happening there. He's really putting his weight into it. Takes a bit of practice and a lot of faith in the equipment and familiarity with your wheel grip ability. Best way to carve like this is to ride ride ride! Push your limits slowly every ride and really work on paying attention to how your inputs result in the response of the board. Probably the most important thing is your trucks. As you get more comfortable on your board you need to loosen your trucks (to a point) in order to "unlock" the performance of your board.
@naturecollision4 жыл бұрын

@loripham71634 жыл бұрын
Such a fair and complete review. Customer Service + Warranty are absolutely the most important. If you are like me and get an Ownboard that is inoperable then just like Chris said, you'll be waiting a week for a response from customer service and up to a month for parts that may or may not solve your problem. It doesn't matter the cost if you can't ride your board. I don't recommend OB for this reason. As for the Evolve GTR, I avoided this board solely because I didn't like the look of the AT wheels but once I rode one it made me a believer! The torque is crazy strong, the ride is so smooth and the remote, while it takes some getting used to, is pretty fabulous! OB's deck is more comfortable than Evolves. They get only 1 point from me for this.

One thing I thing people would like to know is that the evolve doesn't have reverse. That's a feature I would really want and I loved on my boosted. The only thing I like more about the ownboard is also the drop down deck. I dont like the hobbywing remote but do prefer a wheel. Overall I'd take the evolve though between the two. @Oliver Lundström I think if you own an evolve (I do) you know for a fact there's some bullshit mixed into that. Would be interesting to ride an own board for myself and see if it holds up. solid comparison. I do not agree on the remote however. I hate that Evolve remote! it's so prone to breakage, the separation of the break and acceleration trigger is nothing short of annoying, and the deadman switch is useless to me, it's the first thing I turned off when I got the board. It's by far the weakest point of this product in my opinion.
