I have had my 2015 for 3 years and love it. I do mostly tight woods trail riding and it handles it very well. Mine comes in a bit heavier at 265# or 121 kilos dry. it can be a handful inverted on a knife edge trail. Loads of low end torque to get you up and out of lots of trouble, and Billy Goat is a good name for it, only missed getting up one hill first try, and that was my fault. It will power up at revs you would swear would bog it out and stall... That 280 kit sounds like it would light it up just right... (kit is not from AJP)

I grew up on a rigid framed BSA Bantam scrambler....LOL....Yes, they are ideal green laners. Personally I think the other ajp option the PR4 is underpowered and would not recommend that but they are a small frame bike so suit smaller people. Hi Stephen. Difficult to give a straight answer. It's bit like comparing apples and pears really. That being said...The SWM has the top end power, which is great, comes with v. good accessories/suspension, hydraulic clutch too. It is a fair bit heavier though and feels heavier at the back end. The AJP much lighter and flickable very nice ideas i.e. tank under seat, shorter wheelbase. Also good suspension. Lacks that bit of extra ooomph. Spend a lot of time being a "mechanic". I like them both actually. Both have gas tanks of 7.1L but the swm is a lot more thirsty. Both are very, very capable trail/enduro bikes and both deliver a big bang for your buck, so that's good. If you're a heavier rider go swm, if a lighter rider go pr5. Of course when ajp delivers the 310cc that will be very interesting comparison.

Would the SPR250 be a consideration if I have been considering the Honda CRF300 Rally (big fuel capacity, reasonably capable off road, comfy on road, wind deflection, reliability, price €7,800, parts network, service intervals 12k klm, ABS, fuel economy, cannot think of more right now)? I'd be mostly using on road(not motorways). Thanks. Liam. Ireland.
@algarvetrailridingtours2 жыл бұрын
To me I personally feel there's a huge difference between the 2 bikes. In essence I'd say the 300L is a road bike with off-road capability. The SPR is an off-road bike with some road capability. If planning more commuting and adv riding then CRL if wanting more enduro biased riding SPR. However, there's always a bit of crossover on bikes.

You are not alone not liking dirtbikes without kick starters. I do not like it as well, I prefer the redundancy offered by 2 methods to start a bike. It means your batter has to be in very good condition all the time (also for the fuel injection system). I think all big names make new motorbikes without kickstart to save on the weight of the bike....I wish they didn't. Yes, 1st gear is very low ratio...make full circle not using the clutch, no problem. You need to make good battery maintenance and starter motor maintenance to ensure good starting.

well done Borys, hope you enjoy the bike. I usually buy bearings from a bearing shop. I cannot remember the serial numbers now but I try to use either SKF or Fagor bearings depending on what any supplier has. Generally accepted that SKF are the "best" but either brand is very good. Remember not too overload the bearing with grease, just enough. Double check the spindle tube (that sits between the 2 bearings is the correct length. Some of mine have been way too long and I've taken a bit off so that the bearings sit better on the wheel hub machined face, not on the tube alone.

What do you think of the pr5 has a dual sport or a small adventure bike? Do you think it can stand some long rides around the country? I was thinking of buying a crf300l but the pr5 looks really nice and is also a lot lighter.

Hi great question. Not sure what country you are in but 2 friends of mine recently did a lap of Portugal using TET and another part of the ACT. 3000kms in total. Both did it on the PR5. I think if you change the gearing you can make it very adventure ready. I have another friend just fitting a small nav rally screen and utilising LED headlights just like on the Rally Nav towers so yes people are making adventure bikes from the PR5. To me the biggest limiting factor is it has only a 7L fuel tank so you need to think about alternative fuel carrying ideas. I know the 250L is a great adventure bike I imagine the 300L will be as well. Hard for me to say which bike I'd choose but if my buddies have just done 3000km ride I guess that's your answer.
