Misleading. The annual cost of ownership for a Cessna Citation 501 would likely range from $400,000 to $600,000 per year, with the primary variable being fuel consumption and maintenance needs. You can deduct $60K - $100K per year for pilot salary. Still not "affordable" for most people.

100% misleading. Having a 501 in maintenance right now and I won’t end up below 250k for this one event. 400k is very realistic as cost of ownership. Unfortunately. There is no such thing as an „affordable jet“. 😊
@zesolodar11 күн бұрын
@@JRAviation i like your videos but your completely wrong and i think you owning a private jet is a huge mistake on your end because you clearly dont understand the costs yet. that plane is going to cost you a minimum of 1000 bucks per hour to operate. idk how much you plan on flying but usually cost are calculated over 200 hours or 400 hours. to operate a 501 based on 200 hours your going to spend 100's of thousands. every jet site says your budget for this many hours should be between 830k- and 1.3 million. also this is extremely old plane parts will get more and more difficult to find and will get more expensive (i think you have experienced this already, remember how much that o2 bottle costs) single pilot- is it worth the risk? what happens if something g-d forbid happens to owen- what are you going to do in flight? your talking about gas and storage fees but your completely ignoring the cost to fix and replace major airline systems like hydraulics, landing gear ect. your insurance policy for 10k whats your coverage? i can get minimal coverage for my car but it wont cover anything and just an FYI my uncle is currently on ownership of his 4th plane. he currently owns a citation xls, owned a king air, and owned a Beechcraft. and owned you guessed it a 501. im actually scared for you financially because your going into owning/ operating something very expensive and not fully aware of the cost. just wait till you need an engine overhaul or replacement. coming from my uncle- nothing about owning a private jet is cheap or affordable and it makes zero financial sense if you look at it from a dollars perspective.

The C500 is a tremendous, very docile aircraft, extremely well built and designed... an important point is the issue of safety and with this one cannot and should not cut costs, operating a high performance aircraft with only one pilot is risky (the video was an excellent example showing the pilot receiving a high workload in a congested airspace, imagine that at night and suddenly an emergency occurs on the plane), this is a lot of workload for a single person being the right moment to make a mistake and lead them to disaster... therefore there is nothing safer than having 2 pilots on board and dividing the workload

Awesome! You also should mention that you use the airplane for business so all expenses are deductable against taxes which knocks 40% off the total as well. The deal you have with Owen to fly the plane is a huge savings to you. If you needed to employ a pilot, plan on spending $150,000 to $200,000 a year for salary, benefits, training, layover expenses etc. There are a bunch of other expenses that you didn't mention such as: subscriptions, basic supplies, ramp fees, support equipment etc. A big thing is that you are OK with flying an older jet, and are flexible with availability.

Most of the older, super cheap jets are illegal to operate without a hush kit. Hot section inspections and annuals are more than a late model used car and the engine overhaul for both engines is probably almost what I paid for my 4000 sq ft house five years ago.
@diggy-d8w12 күн бұрын
I do not doubt that a well seasoned & adequately trained pilot can handle one of these aircraft under good circumstance but I think there are probably a lot of things that can happen from weather to mechanical that would stress the best of pilots. I think a lot of the accidents we see are cases where a pilot becomes overwhelmed & some have 2 pilots & still need help. Cutting costs by not having an additional hand might not be smart but what do I know? peace & GB ALL

People have broken down private jet ownership and for relatively small light jets with two pilots it comes to about $1.3 million per year. You could probably get it under $1 million with a very light jet or turboprop that requires only one pilot. Most of the larger jets are $2-4 million per year. That is not cheap to anybody except UHNWIs ($30+ million net worth). Even if all of your other assets are paid off (cars, yachts, real estate, etc.) you still have to pay insurance, taxes, and upkeep on those things too, not to mention most wealthy folks invest their money in business ventures and properties that can make them more money. A plane will lose you money even if you're chartering it, hence why most charters go out of business. Using a plane for private use only makes very little financial sense unless you are extremely wealthy. It makes sense for companies because the time saved with a jet will potentially make them millions in additional revenue yearly, making the plane essentially pay for itself.
