Hey all, I hear your response on the new editing style. Here's the thing though, I LIKE putting more time and edits into my videos. They're not going to stop, but they can get better. So I would really appreciate if we could get some helpful criticism. When should edits be included? When shouldn't they? How can I edit the game to accentuate the funny moments without taking away from the pace of the game? I need help here for us both to be happy.

TwoPercentSkimm In my personal opinion there were a lot of edits in there. In the first 4 minutes alone there were 3 short clips and 1 screenshot post. I would cut back on the amount you put in and make sure they are spread out so they are not as condensed in the beginning middle or end.

We all appreciate you putting more effort in to the videos. I personally felt the addition of clips didn’t add much to the video itself. Take the white beard clip for instance, it felt unnecessary and like it was only put in there for the sake of it. What I did like though in a previous video you asked a magic 8 ball questions online. That was funny and you questioned your own (or other people’s gameplay) so it was related to the game more than a random clip of a meme. I hope that helps a bit! (Also no loud sudden sounds/music that often come with random clips)

In my opinion, editing is fine but there is such a thing as over-editing. If during your commentary you miss something vital to the game, maybe every once in a while it's acceptable to do one of those "*record-scratch* " things but keeping it relevant to the game is pretty important. Pretty much all of the additional clips had nothing pertaining to the game. If you're going to add a clip, using it to add context to something (such as why you think, for example, someone named Brutus might attack someone named Caesar), but not to try to explain jokes or references. Or even if you yourself was named Brutus and you couldn't resist attacking Caesar, including an audio clip at the end of the night of just "And you, Brutus?" might be something funny. The important thing to me is keeping it relevant to the gameplay. What you chose as your name doesn't need a visual explanation, just you saying "I saw a post calling alligators Swamp Cats and I thought it made them sound cute" is more than enough for us to understand, but if you truly wanted to add something additional, an image that takes up maybe 1/2 of the screen at most for 3 seconds at most just showing the comment that you mentioned was made about Swamp Cats is fine and doesn't detract from anything.

I really did not like the random cuts to something different, it ruined my thought process. When I watch these, I either space out completely or I try to figure out the mystery myself. The sudden buffalo eaten by a kitty messes that up :(

No offense, but I REALLY don't like your new...eh-hem...editing style. Like, maybe once in a while having something appear onscreen to make a joke or reference is fine...but not the constant insert of clips, or pictures, or sound effects to "try and spice things up". It's just extremely jarring and...honestly almost childish. I'm not trying to be mean; it's just my opinion. It's just heavily distracting while trying to watch the game. Personally, I don't think they're needed at all; your TOS videos were perfect just the way they are! If you enjoy them, Skimm, then you do you. They don't do it for me, but I'm just one guy. And, admittedly, I'll still watch your videos regardless. I just don't like them.

Also agree. If he says he is bored after uploading too many ToS videos. If its the game, take a break. If its just the videos themselves you want to spice up, Leave them alone. Branch out into other things. Fine tune the editing skills on standalone videos, don't spend 10 minutes adding in dumb clips. Make some compilations of best moments, or times where you lost the game for your team/obvious fails. But yeah, you do you skimm, I'll continue to watch.

The meme cuts don't really work in this game imo, I'm trying to focus on the game and Aqua totally broke my focus. Not trying to say you shouldn't try new things, but edits that slow that sharing of information or distract from the game I don't think are enjoyable to watch. (might work for a different game with a little more time to make jokes in the first place due to less complexity and communication though)

Yay, ToS! Glad to see a ToS upload! They seem to be fading into oblivion from folks (granted, I can't blame everyone; ToS is one of those "in small doses" things). Though, I'm not a fan of the random cuts in the video (it feels like it interrupts the flow...and is sort of jarring in some of the cases). Just constructive feedback; it's ultimately up to you how you edit your own videos, but I found them to be disruptive to what was going on in the gameplay. Welp, we had the benefit of seeing dead chat and how salty 10 was being in the chat. I can't blame town for lynching them, because two of the Spies came out with their results every day and then this person just comes out randomly on...d3, I think? Even without reading dead chat, I was sus of 11 and 7. Of course, if I was playing, I would have been wondering if my scum reads were on point or not since 10's late Spy claim was certainly sus (especially since maf visited one of the Spies). 9 and 14 were obviously evil (the way they acted and voted since like...d2), and as the game kept going, 7 and 11 were on my list since they hadn't claimed and didn't say anything.

The editing feels jarring. This is the type of game that requires a lot of focus and in order to fully enjoy the gameplay, it needs to be relatively unbroken, which is why I don't think that exact editing style works for this type of game. Solution: The gameplay never stops. If it stops, it's more annoying than funny. BUT, you can still edit in the videos by either having them be really transparent over the gameplay, or by restricting them to just a small corner of the screen. This way, the gameplay isn't broken up, and the humor still has a chance to get across.

Quite the contrary, I liked the new edits, brings something new to the picture! When you have seen 100 of your gameplays it's fun to see something new once in a while, and I didn't find them too distracting. I guess just have to find a good balance between fun jokes and too much distraction. Keep at it Skimm, you're the best!

To be honest I kinda enjoy the idea of more editing in his videos(shows some care and pride), and i can understand why people may be upset, but this is a relative new thing skimm has started doing so he probably hasnt fined tuned it to his demographic or brought in more who do enjoy the way he goes about it now. Personally i would be ecstatic if his editing gets to the level of appeal that youtubers like "WELYN" do but into the streamline of what he uploads. I'll be an advocate for the cuts; I think it adds a hint of comedy personally to an otherwise dull moment. On a side note, You provided a clip of Gandalf the White being smashed against a wall. The edit cuts going full screen do break up the game flow. It makes following the game harder for those of us who forget why they were walking into a room on stepping through the threshold. Maybe instead of a full cutaway, have a smaller animation layered on top of the ToS gameplay? I don't know how else to explain it. Something else that might help with the added bits, turn down the volume? The cutaway level doesn't match your calm, chill voice.

As far as I can tell, they didn't give the info to town when they probably should have, which is susp to me. If someone refuses to post potentially critical information to all of the town, I start thinking it's because it's either to mislead the Jailor into a mislynch, or because they know someone can immediately prove them wrong.

Everybody is being fairly critical of the edits, but honestly, I find them hilarious. I think the last video did a bit of a better job with the cuts than this video did, but I in no way thought this video did a poor job. Maybe take the number of them down slightly, which might solve some of the complaints people have about them, but honestly, I think they make the video much more fun and they are great ways to keep the mood light when combined with your commentary.
