I went to Tahiti and Moorea for 3 weeks in September 2005 and my Tahitian hubby at time took me to Teahupoo and even on small 4-6 ft day the current was insane. The most magical place on earth such beauty and energy. I love this film as I've been huge fan of McKenna photography and to finally see the genius himself and his story is truly incredible. Tragic :( I swear it is my dream to see this paradise with my own eyes but I just could'nt go. I have too much respect for the simplicity of these people's lives. I hope the governement of Polynesia will be worthy of respect by avoiding the tragedy threatening their poeple. So so so sad. Happened in so many places and always new places get destroyed. They convince the local people that this business will bring money, wellfare, jobs for their children. Then foreign investors and speculators will buy their lands and properties for what seems good money for the poorer locals. Then prices of land and properties will rocket high up, living right their will become too expensive for the locals, jobs will go to people that for too low salaries spend a season or some and the place just becomes a business of outsiders, the money goes to other countries where the investors reside and locals will have lost their paradise, money and jobs, and most of all, the land they could live on without all this business.

what a beautiful short movie, I could watch it for 2 more hours, thank you. Really tragic ..same thing happened in front of my eyes in Indonesia at one of my favourite wave. The nature is getting destroyed little by little, investors buying houses who could not care less about surfing and the environment. Sadly this is happening everywhere as surfing is growing in its popularity. Sending love to the people in Teahupo`o .

As modern surfing goes, Teahupoo was "discovered" by multiple time bodyboarding world champion, Mike Stewart, who used to surf Teahupoo by himself for many years. Mike originally called the break, " The End of the Road"

Bodyboarders Mike Stewart and Ben Severson took it from there, and the fame and renown of " The End of the Road", or Teahupo grew from there

Very revealing documentary showcasing a potential huge problem for the gentle people of this little Tahitian village. I will go there next year and I hope I find the place is not ruined by the spot light of the 2024 Olympics. Such a beautiful contribution to Teahupo'o, Tahiti and its people. So sad to see that the globalisation and the capitalistic endeavours are going to reach and destroy this piece of paradise. The last part of this documentary was quite heartbreaking to me. My heart is with Tahitian people and their land. May it stay forever in their hands. Don't sell your land. The money won't buy you the air, the ocean nor the fish. It's just not worth to loose your own dignity, culture and land for money which won't make you happier nor richer. The pro surfers should also contribute here and fight against the imposed rules of the Olympics, which led to construction of new facilities and the following destruction of good parts of the reef. I had tears in my eyes watching this last part of the documentary. In my opinion pro surfers who really care about the environment (and especially local ones) shouldn't compete out of protest. Please protect this piece of paradise.

The only solution is that local government does not get blind by dollar signs and does not permit foreign investments and businesses that will not make life better for the people that live there now.
