When this video was made I wasn’t thinking about new jackets etc as I was happy with mine - lately I’ve been thinking about updating mine … I started looking at Rukka and Klim but quite frankly can’t justify the cost of them … then I saw the Oxford Mondial jacket and trousers- useful videos such as these and knowing people who own a set have convinced me that I shall invest in these next time - what I like is not only the cold/wet weather protection but the fact that Oxford seemed to have acknowledged that it can occasionally get very hot on a bike and have introduced the many vents that are just not present in others I’ve looked at … great video and thanks 👍

hi. still my go to jacket, I got a 2nd one as I lost a bit too much weight ! no issues , other than the wrist zips just catch on the liner every now and again, but frustrating but that’s all. 😊

I agree with the other comments. A very informative review. Everything detailed. I'm looking at purchasing a set, but would like to try them on in a shop, rather than just buy online. Nice A/T as well 👍

An update. I have previously commented on this video. Since then I have ridden through two days of terrential rain and discovered the true effectiveness of the suit. It completely wetted out and because of this I became very cold. Both the jacket and pants leaked, the latter so much so I had to dry it out with a hair dryer after hanging it overnight and discovering it was still damp. All in all, the suit is satisfactory for light to medium downpours but will not stand up to continuous heavy rain.

Villain Catcher morning . Long shot .. thought about contacting Oxford and telling them this ? I had recent problem , yet to do video , of the jacket map pocket stitching wearing thin and fraying !! They replaced the jacket . Hear what your saying and I am no expert but these jackets do wet out BUT should they leak. Maybe if it happens to me I may have to bite the bullet and go down the expensive route Rukka etc but for me the jacket is fine for what I do. Others may read this and steer clear of the product . I have heard someone’s trousers leaked and Oxford replaced them saying poor quality initial batch or similar so it may be worth pursuing it with them . I like the product and was swayed by the price point etc . Interested to see if Oxford do anything about your gear , please let us know . Safe riding .

@@gsd32i I bought the suit because of the price and the belief it was waterproof especially after watching The Missenden Flyer's review on KZbin. As I've said previously, the suit is OK for light to medium rain but anything heavier than that... well. I live in Australia so for me heavy, continuous, torrential rain is infrequent so best to avoid it where possible. The old adage, you get what you pay for applies here. I've ridden throughout the UK and Europe and North America and if I lived there permanently I would have lashed out and bought something from Rukka or Klim.

Villain Catcher I get where you are coming from . Believe me I would have loved to have gone for the Klim or Rukka gear ( I did splash out in some lovely rukka gloves though) but firstly my wife would have gone nuts at the price of £1000 for the jacket and similar for the trousers and secondly , for what I use the gear for , the price is a good option for me , although I haven’t been riding over several days in torrential rain , it has kept me dry and comfy ( although I do wear a neck tube as I find the collar too low and do layer up ). I would still drop Oxford an email though to complain , doesn’t cost anything ..... you never know. Hope all is well down under now 🤞

i have a mondial jacket and love it, but i do agree the neck is a tad low, which is ok for summer to get some cooling but no good in winter, however i use a neck warmer so no problem really. another minor gripe is i also find the neck adjustment can be a bit tight. i am a fair weather rider, and while i dont mind the cold (which this jacket stops), find rain a bit miserable so avoid it when possible as i dont commute, but am still thinking about getting the trousers atm. Thanks for taking the time to pit together a thorough review! I'm considering this jacket and pants for 4-season riding here in Texas, USA. Looks good on you!

Daddy Buzz hi . Thanks for the comment . Got a road trip planned for this week . So will do an update . Good clothing at a good price . Neck tube totally does away with my negative comment on the low neck line ! 👍

Great review, thank you. My wife and I are looking at buying this suit when we arrive in the UK from Downunder next week for our six week motorcycle holiday.

Villain Catcher thanks . Wearing an oxford neck tube I purchased (3 pack) has totally done away with the negative comment I made about the neckline of the jacket being too low . Also used it when temperature was 22 degrees and the chest and forearms vents work very well. Great jacket for the money.

@@gsd32i Just an update. I bought the jacket and trousers (no female sizes to fit the wife) and wore them for our six weeks touring holiday to the Balkins. Result thoroughly waterproof and very comfortable. The suit did wet out but dried very quickly so no issues there. My only issue was the poor velcro on the leg of the pants. It kept working loose around the ankles letting cold air and water in. Oxford needs to address this issue on the next version. My solution was a velcro strap to hold it in place. Otherwise a great suit for the money.

Villain Catcher hi. My wife has another model of the Oxford jacket and trousers and she says her trousers do the same. I have noticed it on mine too. As this is my first non leather suit , it would be interesting if other brands do this as well. Off to France for a day trip and going to wear longer socks....you never know this may help! I still rate the suit 👍
@gsd32i5 жыл бұрын
@@villaincatcher update.just ridden 200 miles in a day in France , longer socks and i made sure the velcro strap was nice and secure and done up tight to the boot and no problem with air coming up the leg, so i am pretty sure i wasn't doing the bottom velcro up tight enough! As i said before i have not had one of these suits before but i guess you learn these things as you go on.
@villaincatcher5 жыл бұрын
@@gsd32i thanks for the feedback. I wore long socks and made sure I did the velcro strap up tight and still had issues. It would be better if Oxford used a clasp or clip like Klim do rather than just velcro.

Good thorough review. After seeing them featured in RiDE, and then the Missenden Flyer, I’m interested in these. Do you have any information on abrasion resistance? New CE rules and all that.

Gareth R Hi Gareth thanks . Sorry no info other than that on the Oxfords site . Not had this kind of kit before, normally I piece leather race suit . Some point you gotta make a choice and I am glad I went for this . Price point and all that . No complaints thus far .

Yes, the laminated jackets wet out but unlike normal jackets, they dry out a lot quicker. PS i just bought this jacket and trousers as i could not justify buying out for the laminated Halvarssons version (which i normally wear)

Mike Dignum hi. Went out for a 2 hour ride today. Persistent rain, 55 mph winds, tail end of another storm. Stayed perfectly dry , but I do wish the collar was a bit taller ! Jacket and trousers wetted out, now hanging up in garage and should be dry by the morning .

As someone already commented on , the only true test is to ride with it on in pouring rain at speed, i can sit with a t shirt and shorts in a garage and never feel cold or get wet

Jeff Andrews indeed . It was an initial review just to help others out who may be looking at the jacket as there wasn’t much out in the net about the jacket . Hence the initial review . 👍

Very informative video, i,m interested to see how it performs on the bike when its pouring with rain, its the only way to see how these things actually work👍

Jeff Andrews. I bought the suit and can confirm it is not waterproof in very heavy and continuous rain. It is fine for light rain and heavy rain up to an hour duration. Hope this helps.

What’s the difference between the Mondial and the continental jacket. They look identical
@gsd32i Жыл бұрын
Had to look at that one as they look the same . Basically they are not the continental jacket has a removable waterproof liner and not the inbuilt waterproofing of the Mondial … I think !!

I've been riding in two really wet rides and both time my whole chest has been soaked I think it was because of the low collar
@gsd32i4 жыл бұрын
Hi, I would agree that is an issue, but I am not a hardened biker anymore, so avoid days like that ! Even in cold weather I have to wear a neck tube due to the low collar the aperture of which I feel is a bit too wide, like some other jackets . Possibly this way to allow the rider to wear a warm/waterproof neoprene neck tube ?????? But for the price it’s pretty good .

I rode from Peterborough to Lincoln yesterday afternoon in heavy rain and my chest was also soaking wet (I was wearing the full Mondial suite)
@pyciar5 жыл бұрын
Are the trousers "laminated" too? After half year what you think about ventilation and riding in hot weather?
@gsd32i5 жыл бұрын
pyciar yes the trousers are of the same construction as the jacket. Still very happy with the product. The only issue I’ve had is with the jacket wrist gussets catching on the wrist zip which can be a bit of a faff to free it. That’s about all really. I am a fair weather rider to be honest and have just walked into my house after a quick ride out in the dry.. when wet the jacket does wet out but is dry the next day. Would defo recommend, but there are other brands out there too many to name so at some point you have to dive in and pay your money. From a price point they are very good, which as a fair weather rider only going out when the days are nice , is one of the main reasons I went for them.
