Folks - I may have been a little premature in posting this review as not all suppliers yet have stock (it is new to the market) - give it a few days and check back, I'm assured all usual suppliers will have stock soon....

I won't buy Oxford anymore regardless on reviews, once lost the keys to a disk lock ... Took me a total of 5 seconds to remove it, last yeah I bought the first line of textiles they released, done maybe 1500 miles in 2 months and between the shoulder and elbow just started coming apart (Not even on stitching!) ... however this is due to my experience with their build quality, I don't trust them haha.

I tried this jacket on at the motorcycle show and it fitted very well if a bit short on the arm length given that I have monkey arms...it was very comfy not very thick so maybe the reviews could tell us what it's like in the cold and I don't mean 9'c lol

Thanks so much for the thorough review. I'd already just purchased this set and was wondering just how good it would actually be for the money, not having seen any reviews before I bought it (silly on my part I know) but this review has made me much happier about my purchase. So few reviews actually show it being used in all weather for real. So it's great to see you actually using this stuff. Thanks for your video it's a real relief.

I bought the full kit last week, and put it to good use commuting to and from work for the past few days, its been a little chilly oooop norf, but the suit has kept me warm, might put the thermal liner in next week🤣🤣 . No rain test as yet but i'm sure it will happen. Nice one 👍

Thanks for posting. Sounds like a great product. I appreciate you producing a separate video for the suit instead of incorporating the review into your Norway tour videos. In the spirit of transparency, it was not clear to me whether you purchased the suit, or if it was a tester suit lent/given to you by Oxford for you to review. Thanks again for posting.

1990 Yes, mine was brought around the same time and I have proofed it once or twice in that time and it’s still keeps the worse weather at bay. The only thing that has failed on my Rukka jacket is the back protector broke and the Rukka one I replaced it with has come apart in the middle. However I can either buy another back protector or bond the two pieces together somehow.

I have the mondial jacket in black myself and absolutely love it. i removed the thermal lining for the summer, had the vents open, and didnt overheat or anything, it was really comfy. i fitted the thermal liner a few weeks ago and it's great now the mercury has dropped, so i concur with alll you said :), & i'm so happy i paid the extra for it than what i initially budgeted. It cost me £269 in the summer + back protector, but now the price has dropped to £199 at SBS, so it's great value. i'm in the market atm for warmer trousers rather than jeans with long johns so will take a look, but im not one to ride when it's raining and dont commute, so may opt for the duchinni pacific trousers, which look to provide value at less than a third the price, but im still undecided until i try them on, so thanks for the info

I purchased a pair of Oxford pants (not the Mondial) in August 2017. The seam split in November 17. Oxford did replace the pants in January 18, and I started using the new pair in April 18 when the weather cooled off. The second pair also split on the seam, in a different spot, by July 18. I have subsequently purchased a pair of Alpinestars laminated pants which to date have given me no cause for concern.

I just got the jacket and think it's excellent. I have my CBT tomorrow and will be doing my DAS in winter. So I wanted a good jacket for the training. It's the fifth jacket I tried but have sent all the others back. As soon as I put the Oxford Mondial on it felt just right. It fits me well and has all the features I want such as waterproof without a liner, removable thermal liner, good pocket options and good ventilation. In fact it fits me better than all the other jackets I tried. I am 5ft 8", 38" or 39" chest and usually between a small and medium in clothing. The medium in this jacket fits me well. I would like the neck to close tighter and higher, which is a downside. But the only other criticism is that the jacket doesn't look very exciting. It's just a plain black jacket and doesn't look flashy. It's a tool to get a job done. Nothing more and nothing less. Maybe the grey, like yours, would have looked a little more exciting. But I'm happy with it. Of all the jackets I tried this was the best all rounder and the best value. I will probably now get the trousers because I'm impressed with the jacket.

This outfit seems to be similar in concept to the Aerostich jacket and trousers (made in Duluth, Minnesota USA) that I have been using for a number of years. You are sure right about the convenience of not having to stop to adjust your clothing to handle changing weather conditions when you wear an outfit such as these. The 'Stich motorcycle gear is fairly popular here.

One more thing that's awesome about laminate textiles is that once you've been in the wet weather for a while and then stopped it doesn't hold any water to speak of. Very good for commuting, in my old layered stuff i would get to work and then at the end of the day have to put on horrible soggy gear, with laminated stuff it dries almost straight away as the water is just on the surface

Tried a set of these on at the bike show last week. I liked them a lot. Three things to point out: the armour is not the top spec but you can change this of course, the back armour pocket is quite small so coverage is limited, and lastly, they don't do an XL long leg in the blue suit. Real shame as I would have bought them on the spot. I'm going to wait until they come into my local shop at Helmet City and have a look at the other colours that weren't at the bike show. I know it's not gortex blah, blah, blah but this is a great suit for the money. It's also very hard to find anywhere at the moment. The Oxford guy I spoke to expects more stock to be distributed by Xmas. That's handy!

Thanks TMF, however water resistance is surely not the single most important aspect of motorcycle apparel? Unfortunately, abrasion and burst resistance rarely seem to be tested in gear reviews (other than by the likes of Ride mag etc,) and manufacturers seem to use the fitment of CE rated armour as a smokescreen for their products overall safety. There are CE standards for material abrasion resistance, seam strength etc, yet few manufactuers appear to submit their garments for testing, including some of the really high end brands such as Klim and Rukka. Personally, I feel it's time the industry got it's act together over this, so that the bike buying public can evaluate (objectively) whether their bike clothing is fit for purpose. A bin liner is waterproof - sticking some CE approved armour into it surely doesn't make it protective? Interestingly, I purchased a two piece riding suit from Aldi a couple of years ago for under £200, and the entire outfit (not merely the armour) is CE rated.....

With the older waterproof liner your dry but the jacket isnt. With laminate its meant to stop the jacket soaking up the water. Did your jacket get heavy and take a long time to dry? Excellent. I’ll be in the market for something like this. I have a mesh jacket for summer, relies on less than 40 degs heat. My other textile suit weighs a ton and the waterproof lining leaves you soaking in sweat. So I bought a waterproof over jacket to carry with me and have ditched the lining. I’d advise the daughter to use the pressure washer next time.

I have several jackets depending on the season and where I'm going. I have my touring jacket when I'm away for any length of time. Three layers. I normally only need the waterproof layer zipped in unless it gets very hot (Aussie here). I'm now a recreational motorcyclist, if the weather is shite, I don't ride. I have several Australian made Dririder jackets which are very good, including a mesh jacket in summer time. I still reckon for protection, you can't beat leather.

I have an earlier version of this jacket where the three layers are zip on/off. At the time of purchase i didnt realise it was called mondial as its funny because my bike is a F.B Mondial smx. pretty 'fitting' if u ask me.

There are no earlier versions of the Mondial - the whole point is this is a laminated jacket, not a three layer construction....

@@TheMissendenFlyer Hi there, do you still hold this opinion? I am looking for a good waterproof pants and I'm considering the RST Pro Adventure X and the Oxford Mondial. From what I gather from reviews about the Oxford Mondial suit, is that the jacket is very good but the pants tend to leak water. Do you still use the Oxford Mondial suit in preference to the RST adventure suit?

Your timing is perfect (or is it really my timing?) I just purchased the Merlin Horizon 3 in 1 jacket and pants on Black Friday sale here in the States. Who knew I didn't need 3 different layers? My Aerostitch suit is 11 years old and still going strong but it is not waterproof, as I've found out on quite a few occasions. Well, might have to wait another decade to jump into today's tech. Story of my life. ;)

Can I just check if the suit is still holding up well? I bought a premium Italian brand about 12 years ago and can't get the waterproofing to hold even though it's gore-tex. I know they eventually fail but I don't think it ever really lasted long anyway. Hate carrying waterproof over suits. Keen to know how it's still going?

Worth the wait TMF. Couple of questions for you - how is it compared to the RST Adventure (2?) kit you wore previously? The cooling on the RST kit looked like it might be better, but I'm curious to see your opinion. The trousers seem to have similar venting to the Rev'It trousers I have and it's not massively effective in the super hot weather. And the other bit is about the neck slider. I've got a similar thing on my Rev'It Safari 3 and it drives me mad as it never stays in the middle setting, slightest bit of tension on it and it slides to the biggest position - but the middle one gives me a really good seal without being uncomfortable. Wondered if you experienced any such things with this jacket?

I bought this for my first riding suit, and it’s done the job, but after owning it for less than two years, I just rode about 80 miles in horrible British weather and the trousers are not waterproof. I’ve had to have a bath to warm my neither regions up. It’s ok for a bit, hence why this test works but, longer distance, nope. Like anything you get what you pay for, but if you do a lot of mileage and in bad weather, I’d spend my money else where.

I bought one of these recently and on the first day of wearing it was tested in thirty miles of torrential rain. In itself it was waterproof, but despite being on an adventure bike, (so behind a screen) cold water found its way down the low neck of the jacket, bypassing all that clever laminated material. The other area where I was a little disappointed is the size of the (optional) back protector. It is 10 cms shorter than the back protector in my previous jacket and only protects the upper half of the spine. On the plus side it costs less than £200 and doesn't wet out like my previous jacket!

Thanks TMF. I have been waiting for this review for many weeks now. It looks an excellent buy for the price and speaking to friends even the £1000 jackets start to leak after a few years. Well all I can say is generally speaking I don’t wear it (don’t like the look) but there’s no good reason not to wear it if you see what I mean - so I probably should...hard to argue against making yourself more visible...
@Gilespargiter
@Gilespargiter 5 жыл бұрын
.... except their is no overall evidence from peer reviewed research that "HI-Vis" actually is at all highly visible, in fact it can camouflage you in some situations e.g. as a traffic cone (LOL), or dappled light under trees, ripe corn fields etc. Now reflectives at night. they really do increase visibility, at night. It is a bit like the way that cyclists have five times less head injuries/hr (in fact about the same number as pedestrians 1-2% of all serious head injuries) than four wheeler occupiers (5% of all head injuries), but car occupiers don't (normally) wear helmets, but seem to think cyclists should. If you are really concerned about your safety. always wear an approved helmet when taking a bath or shower, as this is the single place where the most head injuries occur (about 9%, UK figures. Usually about the same as US on these things.). You really gotta watch out for those who make heaps of money from so called "safety gear" by cashing in your paranoia :-) @@TheMissendenFlyer
