Many of the scholars at the university department where I work were educated, at least for part of the time, at Oxford or Cambridge (including myself). The stereotype is of Cambridge having a colder more functionalist approach to scholarship, with Oxford having a broader tolerance for a, perhaps, more romantic (or eccentric) type of thinking.
