Thanks to your wonderful lessons, I was able to get high score in my writing exam. I am incredibly happy to say that we have this channel on KZbin! Unlike the other channels that are teaching English, you have much more qualifications than the others have! Furthermore, you teach us grammar rules as well as how to be better at writing. Even you give us suggestions regarding listening. Thus, I really appreciate you! 💙🌸🙏

This is the best video on the internet about linking words. May be something I have to add is that different linking words have different levels of proficiency. While checking the function and form of the linking word, also look for the level of proficiency. This will help you use higher level linking words instead of basic ones although you have to balance while writing. Thanks a lot for this video.

Hi! Teachers at OEO.Lesson was practically wonderful.That's because,you both explained to us the nitty-gritty of every linking word,especially its functions,how and where to use accurately for band 7 and above grade in IELTS writings.This topic has been explained in such a way that even basic learners can understand without any difficulty. Hats off to both of you.. Thanks & regards..9

Hi , Your lessons are absolutely useful . I am glad to say that i have followed the Speaking Rules that Oolie had specified in 3 parts videos and i am constantly able to get 8 in speaking in my last three attempts.Not only in Speaking, reading was another toughest task for me to crack and with Martin matching Paragraph heading and True/ False not give had become my piece of cake. I would really be grateful, if you could assists many of the IELTS candidates with Map questions and Matching information question in the Listening Section. As of now, i had improved in my Speaking and Reading, I am concentrating now on writing and Listening Skills. I have started to follow the writing videos and trying to implement.Additionally, If could help us with listening task as well, we could crack it not only that it has become a practise that we believe only in tour strategies. Thanks!!!

Recently, I have been dabled in ping pong, which is a two- player game requiring a ping pong ball and a table. I got to know this sport just 2 months ago when my classmate brought his ball to the class to play every playtime. At the very beginning, my first impression was that the sport was so strange; I thought to myself “ what’s interesting in hitting the ball back and forth on the table?; it looks too easy!”, nevertheless, I still sought out the opportunity to play it once. I was completely a newbie in this sport; I didn’t even know the rules. As the result, I failed the game and was laughed at. Instead of getting defeated, I promised to myself to get better at this sport. Although my first motivation was huge, the sport is too difficult; I can’t take in and understand why the player can hit the ball so hard but the ball still doesn’t miss the table. Now, I can only practice more with the hope of getting improved in no time.

There are several connecting words that we can use to express purpose. Normally, linking words and phrases like conjunctions and prepositions are used to express connections. However, to know how to use transition words will be better than knowing the literal meaning.

Hi Oxford Online English team! I hope you are all doing well :) I would like to ask you if we should use fancy words and phrases to get a better score in an entrance exam. Thanks for your help!
@Oxfordonlineenglish14 жыл бұрын
Hi Shirley. It's important to use words that properly express your meaning. If they happen to be "fancy" words, that is fine. If not, that is fine too. It's more important to focus on developing a clear, well-structured essay that satisfies the task 100%. We have a few other IELTS Writing lessons that can also help you with these questions: www.oxfordonlineenglish.com/10-ielts-writing-tips, www.oxfordonlineenglish.com/5-common-ielts-mistakes.

So what should that person have written instead of "for instance?"
@Oxfordonlineenglish15 жыл бұрын
There's nothing they could have used, and if you're asking this question, you've missed the most important point of the video. Linking is about ideas; you can't create a connection by adding a linking word. In this example, there's no connection between the ideas, and there's no easy way to fix that.

When is "and" precedes " additive transition"? Does "and" change the meaning when it precedes words like furthermore? Can i use transition without "and?"
@Oxfordonlineenglish14 жыл бұрын
Hi there, you can simply use the transition 'furthermore' without 'and' before. For example: 'Using plastic products generates litter which harms the environment. Furthermore, plastic can take hundreds of years to degrade'. The only reason to use 'and' is if you are continuing the same sentence: '...it is common, and furthermore, it is harmful.' Hope this helps you!
