Great talk by the speaker. To address some western critics, just pointing out that debates between democratic system and socialist system has been discussed in China extensively before, and they conclude that democratic system did not reflect the needs and culture of their people, with so many people in poverty at the time. If you ever think that Chinese elites has never thought and discussed these issues, you are really underestimating Chinese citizens, since Chinese, in general, looks very closely to the west, because they respect dearly their opponents. Both political models have their setbacks and there are things to learn from both models. But the west insistence that all political models must be in the form of a democratic system is repusive. And to force this insistence, many back-handed methods has been used such as waging wars, inciting local agitations and spreading false news (or bias), providing ammunitions to opposition etc which have effectively meddled other's countries politics. Thats just despicble.

It also means that China now so powerful will no longer have to suffer the humiliations it endured in the past. China will never be a liberal democracy but a civilization society and that will keep China united.China is emerging peaceful and prosperous.
Discipline matter much more than authority. Authority and Discipline are not the same thing. Countries like Greece or the Philippines still lack discipline and responsibility in their democracy. In fact they may risk losing their democracy. Japan and Germany Are more democratic than China, but their attitude of daily discipline to their laws is much stronger, even stronger than in China. This is also why corruption is lower German and Japanese democracy won't collapse. Many countries also have authoritarian states which lack discipline, and won't prosper as fast as China.

@david chan He simply said that the USA is the first economic power, which is still the case, despite the current crisis. The lately incidents in the USA are something quite normal for a democracy to experience. It's the free expression of people's dissatisfaction over a societal problem and this it it what makes things change, not only the goodwill of some almighty political leader. And of course, the current days may be seen as a very tough situation, but this is because of the very agressive and abnormal behaviour of president D.Trump who hates compromises. However, D.Trump is not president for life, and things are doomed to evolve in the way of progress and freedom, because the people is free to express his own will. This is how slavery and segregation ended.
@DaDa-ui3sw4 жыл бұрын
@david chan what a joke. A regime change ?? When the current demonstrations are pushing for a more free and respectful society, which are the most defended values by the American Constitution ?? It just doesn't make any sense at all.. Demonstrations are normal for a democracy, that's it. If I look at the stats, I see that the economic growth is in the recent years quite similar at what it was 3 or 5 decades ago. We can make stats tell us whatever we want, depending on the way we present them... The fact that new powers are rising doesn't mean that the USA is collapsing. The USA is still undeniably the first economic, military (3 times more budget for army than China) and cultural power. Today, Trump's presidency is reducing American influence over the world (WHO exit, deterioration of ties with its European allies), but the potential of power remains the same, and it would change with other political decisions. But if what you call "collapsing" is the slight decrease of American influence over the world, it's quite easy to say, as the USA could not be any more powerful than what it already was in the last few decades. Many people who demonstrate today are poor, and still they can express their free opinion and make things change, which is a thing the US Constitution protects. While in Hong Kong, wealthy protestors are violently repressed by chinese power for defending freedom..

Democracy in its basic assumption is the acceptance and the advocacy for gradual improvement of our collective political life, freed of domination and imposition by any one toward anyone else; any glitch in our freed system is only part of the experiment and willingness to improve ourselves in our pursuit of freedom in our human experience. Our successes in achieving such improvements are nothing an authoritarian like you would ever even think of. We do not surrender ourselves to any imposition or selling our own selves short because of fear or whatever immediate pragmatic needs we may have. Nice talk, however, the fact that you are able to criticize democracy in a democratic country and the absolute inability of a "westerner" to freely criticize "Chinese communism" from inside China says a lot about democracy and its success. Unless that success for you is ONLY measured by the ability of an individual to buy more or the ability of the state to own a hefty sum of money and exercise its power limitlessly on the citizens? The concept of "absolute" is by itself absurd and therefore to indirectly say that "Chinese communism" is a success and that democracy is failing is like looking at each concept from a very narrow perspective and not taking into account so many factors including liberty, the value of the individual, and freedom. There is no doubt that the Chinese model is a real success in many sectors but at the same time this model is, just like democracy, have large drawbacks.
