I love Marco, but if someone retells the same story, exactly the same down to the very last details multiple times consistently, it means it is a well rehearsed story. If someone is speaking a true story from the heart there will be small details that are different every time, because that's simply how the human mind works. Unless of course you have written the story out and very well rehearsed and memorised it.

The cadences of his speech are more biblical-sounding than ever, his logic more elusive. 25:10 “Success is born out of luck. It’s awareness of mind that takes advantage of that opportunity”. This is something you never hear even from motivational speakers. Everyone talks about working hard or working smart or doing what you love. Nobody talks about how luck is a part of it. And Marco is right. I got downsized from one my jobs which I hated and was in it for 5 years. For 5 years I tried really hard to get a good job. I worked hard and I was honest. Then I got a job in a SE Asian country. The salary was much lower and I went from living in a nice 2 bedroom apartment in a city to a tiny room in the middle of the jungle. Then I landed a much better job in the same country. The kind of job i wanted for 5 years. If I hadn’t taken the flight, if I hadn’t taken that first job, I would still be struggling and be unhappy. It was luck that I came to this country. He was like that when he was young. He obviously knows a great deal of French at this point. Not to mention the thousands of hours he worked in the nicest hotels and restaurants in the world around his time. You soak up and learn from your environment. He went into a whole new world, quite literally.

I never really liked this fella. But the second he started talking. I was totally hooked. He’s a great speaker and story teller. So now I understand him better. Where he’s from. What he’s done. How hard he’s worked. How respectful he is. I really like him. I’m with him on the ham butty with piccalilli. Brilliant talk that.

I grew up in grimy 1970s Leeds just as he did and remember the poverty in some areas. So to achieve what he did is nothing short of amazing.

Absolutely NOT boring. I could listen to Marco all day. His wisdom from experience is priceless.

Helping a freinds distressed restaurant, 6 months, no pay, just as he is about to go to France to work with some of the greatest chefs. Purely helping a freind, who was getting drunk every night. Thats different level. Shows his true character isn't pure personal ambition. Highly doubt someone like Gordon would have done that. There is something in Marco that has that element of just dropping everything on a whim for things like that. Kind of that Italian, emotional element of him. Got a lot of time for him

Gordon was different, his drive was to keep getting better no matter the cost, as he described it his hunger.

Yes because English people would never help a friend, has to be his Italian heritage at play

Gordon accused Marco for taking booklet for reservation in a restaurant he was working on; And the Italian bankers stopped talking to Marco because of this. Years later Gordon confesses that he did it, and he did it to fuck over Marco. This is due to the fact that Gordon felt like Marco might be approached by the Italian Bank, because of a negative review in fhe restaurant Gordon was in at the time. Marco commented that he'd never talk with Gordon again.

"he taught me, never throw in the towel... And if I did, he taught me to pick it up." That resonates with me. Even when defeated and finally put down, you still get back up and keep fighting. My Dad was the definition of integrity and honor. He talked the talk but backed it up. Lots of nice people would give you the shirt off their backs.... He LITERALLY and figuratively did so numerous times with me witnessing it happen. And we did not have money growing up. My Dad gave me tools. Tools for life and tools for living. He was very very old school, too, like Marco's dad, but towards the latter 20 years of his life he became warm and no longer rough, extremely easy going and never yelled, NEVER. I have no idea how he learned to never raise his voice or fight with my Mom in his last 20 years of life, it was crazy to watch... But it showed me that two people could totally get along without constant headbutting until their demises lol

Its like youre talking about my father. A man of principle (literally wouldnt tell me his opinion on certain issues because he wanted me to be my own man with my own mind) and softened quite a bit the last 15 years or so, but he was a hard fella when I was growing up, and family has always been hus guiding value aboove all else besides maybe his faith. Im not a faithful man myself, but he respects that Im my own man with my own mind. Its a bit cliche, but they dont seem to make em' like that anymore.

To be honest, I think a movie would carry a fraction of the emotion and power that Marco presented here in this video
