Diplomat to miner. I know its a wholly different level, but i went from insurance agent to cleaning up flooded basements. I couldnt be happier with my decision. I make less money, but hating your job can lead to some real misery. Manual labor is just the right thing for some people.

I'm so glad I didn't pick Adoring Fan (5:26:52), whose schtick gets old fast after only 2 streams as Oxhorn finds out here. I picked "Dream Home" as one of my traits, which gives me actual gameplay (base building) instead of some gag. It is a beautiful 2-story, 2-bedroom house that costs $125k, which is easy to pay off since it is easy to earn money in this game. My other two traits are Introvert, which gives me high O2 regen while solo, and Wanted, which gives me higher weapon damage at low health. All 3 traits have served me well in the 190 hours I've played so far.

From my pov, Sarah Morgan, the head of Constellation, is following you on your first mission to see how this nobody of a miner turned explorer will do. It gave it more realism for me than just giving me a ship and saying, "ok... your an explorer now.

I think it's meant to be confusing and vague because ultimately they (the constellation )themselves are not sure what is even going on and I think it adds to the whole exploration theme

You need the correct habitats (Habs or modules) to add crew to your ships. 2x2 size and larger Habs can only be added at the various shipyards. At city ports, you can add 1x1 and 2x1 Habs. The only 2x1 hab that allows adding crew is the Control Station, that adds 4 crew positions. If the city port can add 3x1 Habs, the Engineering hab adds 1 crew position. Now the difficult part, you are restricted to 3 crew members until you get ship control under the social tree. So the Engineering hab is the restricted solution you can add to the Frontier. The Control Station hab is the most economic long term solution to add to the Frontier. The only modifications I recommend for the Frontier is to eliminate the guns, lasers, and missiles, and add 4 electron particle emitters on it. Stepping up to neutron and then alpha particles when they become available, and whatever better shields. I really believe it is a mistake to enlarge the “older than the moon” and “classic ” Frontier Galaxy class ship. Can you imagine enlarging a Chevy 57 Bel Air? Instead you should do the Ranger story line and get the Star Ranger that has 5 crew positions. Which starts with the Coe story line. Seems you are going to have to start a base soon.

If you have dogs, be sure to have a crate outside for packages so they don't get chewed up...also good way to prevent theft. Puppies will be puppies. Everything is a chewable.

"How does a Diplomat end up working in a mine?" As someone who literally lost out in a job as Pump Jockey at a gas station in Oregon to someone who used to BE A NEUROSURGEON... ... crap happens. Particularly during economic downturns. It doesn't really strain my disbelief because I've seen people doing that sort of thing. People with a PhD in Electrical Engineering who end up taking a job stocking shelves at the grocery store because well... waiting for the job they wanted and not finding it doesn't pay the Loans off and all. If you're some 20 year veteran working at Boeing and they downsized your position out of existence... well even if you were a brilliant aviation engineer with the experience in the field... you might have to take that job at the Brown Bear Car Wash because you still have to pay the mortgage.

Idk what peoples issue is with believing that the character chose to go work in a mine after being something else or having another profession. My husband is a coal miner, he went to school to be a respiratory therapist and could be that if he wanted to but he chooses to work in the mines because he makes more money. There’s a lot of men who are miners that have worked other professions first. Of course this is not in the Starfield world it’s real life but still the same concept.

The simple fact is that a mining job is outer space is easier to get, and likely easier to do than, say, being a diplomat or a combat medic. Hell, soldiers aren't really needed in times where there isn't war, and you could say that your character doesn't really want to go back to the military lifestyle, so they instead chose a cozy job mining for a company that seems to at least care for their workers on the surface.

I left 3.5 yrs of truck driving to chase my dream as an emt. I went to school became an emt now I’m headed to paramedic school. I’ve been with my company 3 months and already have grown favor with upper management anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Never not change your life or mindset if you truly want something else for yourself. Another thing to remember is money isn’t everything if you find a job that your able to wake up everyday to and love going you’ll never work a day in your life. My days are hard and long and sometimes things happen we wish we could change but I love my job.

To be fair Ox, you where overlooking SOME aspects of how the game played out in your recap. You were a miner, but you where the new guy... the foreman thought you had potential, but you where a trainee, not an experienced miner. you where on your first job. as for her entrusting the artifact to you in the first place... MAYBE one could argue she saw potential in you... had taken a liking to you, and had in mind to be your mentor and take you under her wing... more likely she saw you as expendable if Barrett had warned her to be careful with the artifact. She did however want to keep you in the end... you handled yourself well when the pirates arrived. that made you far more useful to her than just another new guy miner, so her trying to refuse to let you go made sense there. but as they were shutting down the operation and bugging out, barrett made as good of a body as any to break camp and help with the extraction. Thus she was o.k. with the trade. From her perspective you where under contract, so she was not giving you up without compensation. From your character's perspective, "space guy" (barrett (pronounced more like Bare-It)) suddenly trading places with you and sending you off with his spaceship is more than a bit out of place... from our perspective he saw that you had the same experience he did, and constellation NEEDED you, but from your character's perspective, he is as the brits would call it... a right nutter. He DID however send you with a "babysitter" and for all you know indigo protocol is "if he tries stealing my ship, execute him without mercy and remote pilot the ship back to pick me up". (or at least send out an emergency message to let constellation recover me and the ship) Sarah Morgan suddenly being your companion... You are looking at it from the perspective "in a game the companions are basically the players servant", but from the characters perspective, he just got recruited to this group, and she is the OJT supervisor. Now... the NPC side quests... a bartender meets you for the first time and asks you to break into a government facility and steal confiscated materials of questionable legality for her... yeah... sure. I know you look disreputable :P but REALLY?!?!?! Art guy wants you to pick up what is very likely stolen goods for him... He at least played it smoother than the bartender... Random guy gives total stranger a rare historical artifact to exchange for another and hope his property is returned to him... REALLY?!?!?! The NPC issued side quests are horridly contrived and beyond unlikely. As for your character... Since you chose soldier, while I realise you were expecting "I will become a soldier" I see him more as "I was local militia in my backwater settlement" I should also point out... visions of someone or some place is a COMMON story line... your vision was not about anything specific that you would recognize yet... it is relevant to the game, but it was light and sound... no ancient civilizations... constellation ASSUMES it was a message from an ancient civilization. I wish I had started watching the series sooner... honestly it was a game I was not interested in until recently. I am loving going through the play through videos though... Thank you for publishing them.

08:30 Actually, that mining job was your first one, it's said if you ask around. They actually mention your chosen background after finding the artifact , some with dubious questions as to how you 'a XXXXXX' ended up as a miner. 4:25:10 I actually had a different encounter there. I had recently bluffed my way into receiving a smuggled shipment of an epic AA-99 and some other gear, and right here 3 ecliptic ships wanted it back so I had to fight them at the same time. And somehow, Moara's ship had lost power to several systems when I was done with them, so i'm assuming they fired on him as well for some reason.

At the start of the game Lin said that "the client" was on his way because they reported that they were close to finding the artifact, so it technically WASN'T a coincidence that Barrett showed up. He was the client they were talking about. Also, after you do your character creation, Lin will refer to you according to your profession. Like the soldier will wake up in sick bay and Lin says it was luck to get a former military member in her crew, etc. You might want to look into that outpost quest you found while travelling with Sarah, you will probably be VERY pleased afterward.

Ox you have to pay attention to what your companions like and dislikes in the game . For instance, Sarah didn't like when you said "I expected champagne. Aside from that, this is entertaining part 2 video of Starfield. I am very tempted to buy and play this game .

It’s oddly comparable to the Mass Effect series, so far. Maybe more specifically Adromeda (with the whole artifact thing). Commonalities between other Bethesda games are present, too. The fetch quest system, the factions and companions. It’s enjoyable, easy to become bombarded with quests early on, hopefully that evens out though. And I can totally see the UC Vanguard as the Brotherhood of Steel, Starfield edition.

But a lot of the functionality of this game is also comparable to Mass Effect’s mechanics. Not that it’s bad, and not that I’d even say Bethesda copied the ideas, but it’s definitely comparably similar.

I agree Ox it seems to me it’s a mix of a few games actually! Star Citizen and mass effect but the same game mechanics of Fallout and Skyrim with customizable weapons and armor and inventory management as well as selling loot or trading of using loot for customizable items!

That the Centari system ignores Beta & Proxima, despite in real life Proxima Centari holds our closest exoplanet and it's possibly habitable by DNA based life. That really chaps me. Don't know if you know but in order to actually get or complete a scan of materials on planets is you have to activate the scan when in scan mode by pressing E whe you get close enough. Plus any mission you may acquire you don't have to do it as soon as you collect it especially the vanguard one.

You can also do like in Fallout 4 and replace a mod you like with the basic mod (scope to iron sight) and then have the mod you want without learning how to make it first. Try it with a mod you care less about or have multiples of first in case it is destroyed while being removed.

Man, Bethesda really needs to add some life to their characters. They just stand around looking like AI mannequins simulating human interaction. So stiff and awkward... after playing Baldur's Gate 3, even though it's not perfect there either, the dialogue and interactions feel so much better.

Way late to this party. I started playing a couple months ago, and didn't want spoilers. I'm now ready to cross over in my game, so watching the first few of your plays. I also had problems with the ship builder, and so really didn't use it much. I would upgrade weapons, shields, and reactors (if possible). That's it. The one mission where I had to attach two modules to the ship (I won't give away which one) was a nightmare. It took me seemingly forever to get the ship builder to accept the modules, even at the alleged attachment points. Seemed to be more hassle that it was worth to do anything more with the shipbuilder.

oh an Oxyclean, if you didn't catch the refence whilst busy with the stream, the Adoring Fan dialog was all gags on how older game players had routines; that in Elder Scrolls in a week NPC had daily routines and the devs would change them some days to make the environment seem more organic, they'd vary their walking paths in activity, and would basically live a daily life whether you were present in their town or not--so that's why he met you "'by chance by changing routine". In addition, I think if you ever found him in the overworld instead, his basic routine was just sitting in his house and eating at the table all day, hence the turbobrew & chunks. Cheers!

My God, where did the brilliant idea come from to produce gases with a mining laser! I know that game designers sometimes do stupid things, but this attempt was quite "steep"! I wouldn't have thought of it! I've seen a lot of stupid things in my life, but this easily fits into the top 100!😁😎

The gases were never collected with the mining laser. He just kept trying to get them that way. (Same with liquids). To collect a gas, you walk up and hit an action key to collect. But for some gases that means you take damage, so base building to collect respurces is an alternate solution.

Loving this, but please stop taking all weapons from your companion. Leave and equip a weapon with companion and at least 1 suitable ammo type. Then at least they dont just punch everything and can actually help you.
