It's funny how different laundry methods are around the world. I am from Europe and for sturdy whites like socks, underwear, towels, rags and such, we put on a hot wash and use powder detergent that has a oxy based bleach in it already. Front loaders are mostly in use and our circles are much longer than in your washers. The hot water together with the powder detergent desinfects everything and the white socks come out white no problem. No one uses bleach here, because its so bad for the enviroment.
@kimonawhim61093 жыл бұрын
I’ve been considering powdered detergent again. I don’t think the pods/liquid get the clothes as clean. I felt so bad when I ruined my daughters brand new sweatshirt when the pod didn’t melt fully and stained it. Thanks for checking out my video. Have a great day.
@losreyesguerrero3 жыл бұрын
@@kimonawhim6109 I dont think the issue is getting the clothes clean but wanting our clothes to look white with no stains. My husband is an appliance technician and says powder detergent for front loaders is a no no because it will rust the inside of the front loaders. After trying very expensive detergent and then very inexpensive one my conclusion is that they work just the same and stains require extra effort and yes working with our hands. I have limited the amount of white socks my children have and now mainly do blacks. Even then I have to soak the soaks in hot water prior to washing because the lack of friction in the washer dosent help remove the dirt. And as far the white undershirts they get dingy no matter what I use do I just console myself with the fact that they are underclothes and no one else will see them🤣
@kimonawhim61093 жыл бұрын
What’s your or your husband’s take on top load washers without an agitator? That’s what I’ve had for the last 5 years and it drives me crazy. I feel like it doesn’t clean as well and constantly off balance on the spin cycle which then it will refill to adjust. I’ve also noticed my water bill has been slightly higher since this purchase. I’m the last one in the house that has white socks and since white shirts get dingy no matter what ya do I just replace it come spring time. Come to think of it I’m the only one that wears a white shirt too. So I’m the problem 😆
@losreyesguerrero3 жыл бұрын
@@kimonawhim6109 even front loaders without an agitator will never clean or last as long as old versions that had agitators. If you are using a washer either top load or front load: make sure you fill at least 1/2 the washer with clothes and bes if you do 3/4 because that helps balance the barrel inside and avoid the excessive shaking and tilting. Also more detergent dosent equal cleaner clothes, excessive detergent will only create mold inside the machine because the cycle is set to only run so much water at a given time so there will noy be enough water to rinse the detergents so it just stick to the inside and create a goo. I just remove stains by hand and soak very dirty clothes before washing because machines without agitators will never clean as good as the ones with an agitator.

Yeah, so is detergent. Unless you're beating your clothes against a rock down by the river, it's all "bad" for environment. I just need clean clothes. For whites, you need bleach.
@lisab.30913 жыл бұрын
My mom always added an item of blue clothing to her loads of white clothes (not when bleaching obviously). I have a blue cotton bath towel that I only use for this purpose. It acts as an optical brightener much as laundry bluing did back in the day. I also do not add softener or dryer sheets to my laundry. Instead I add vinegar to the rinse cycle or a washcloth spritzed with white vinegar to the dryer. So much of the grunge in our laundry comes from the waxy substance on dryer sheets. I actually had this conversation with Martha Stewart once. She added that softeners and dryer sheets also interfere with the absorbancy of cotton towels. 🤷🏻♀️
@kimonawhim61093 жыл бұрын
I’m liking this idea. We would have my dad wash his hair (he had gorgeous white hair at a young age) with purple shampoo and it would always brighten up much like they do for brassiness in blondes. I’ve recently considered switching from dryer sheets to the dryer balls for the reasons you mentioned and I never use anything but detergent and occasionally baking soda in my towels.

I never use bleach anymore. I use Tide liquid laundry detergent, OxiClean and a little Dawn dishwashing liquid. The dawn really adds the extra to the OxiClean and Tide. I don't see how bleach can be cost-effective when it ruins your clothes.
@kimonawhim61093 жыл бұрын
You make a good point. It’s more cost effective at the register compared to oxi-clean and since I replace white tees every year or two, yellowing seems inevitable, I prefer the bleach especially for disinfecting towels.
@MrJay1974093 жыл бұрын
Your not just add bleach on top of clothes. Need to put laundry detergent in first, bleach add the water let it cycle around for a minute then add the clothes. Need to put a little bleach which most people put way to much.
@nicolet8186 Жыл бұрын
Dawn doesn't do anything for your clothes except dry them out. It's not meant for fabrics, it's a dish washing detergent. If your whites seem whiter after using Dawn, it's because the Dawn you're using is probably blue in colour-the blue colour is what makes whites brighter, it's why so many laundry detergents are blue (like Tide).
@musicguy206 ай бұрын
Use very very hot water as well, a constant hot temp helps and leaving them over night will get better results. Also clorox brand works better than the cheap store versions you find at discount stores. You can also use a bit of laundry detergent to scrub the dirty parts away then let back to soak. I usually rinse my soaking water if the dirt is that bad.

As far as socks we wear our socks once and toss them in the hamper, slippers is a must

I do like that the Oxi-clean is safe on colors too.The last few times I've looked for white revive I didn't find it so I'll have to look for the gold Clorox. Bleach makes me nervous so I always do a load of towels after using bleach just in case there's anything left behind it won't ruin a load of our clothes.

Not gonna lie --bleach scares me! LOL The first time I used it I had NO CLUE what I was doing, put in WAAAY too much, and ended up with HOLES in the clothes! Plus I am always terrified I am going to take the color out of things by accidentally splashing. I love the Oxi Clean White Revive and thinks it does a great job. Also, it's fantastic for the occasional use in your toilet if you ever think your bowl is getting dingy. Just pour some in, let it sit, and your toilet is SO white and smells SO fresh.
