Something helpful my teacher taught me was OIL RIG which stands for: Oxidation Is Losing electrons Reduction Is Gaining electrons. Hope this helped in any way :)

The problem selections for the Redox/Non-Redox Reactions are excellent, however, I found this topic confusing near the end of the video. I will rewatch this video for clarification. Excuse me... but why aren't there rules for types of reactions....... like the brilliant insights you have here? Like... I feel like 90% of the confusion in chemistry is the way the text arranges their information. Like, my text intro's all of the types of reactions rather than putting them in the category of Single or Double Replacement and then getting more specific. The second you did that was the second I got it. Like dang... hours upon hours of nonsensical studying.

Observing the change in oxidation numbers / lose or gain of electrons is so much simpler . Our teacher split it to 4 sections explaining it using gain/lose of oxygen, hydrogen, oxidation numbers ,& electrons and it just made us all confuse. This is was helpful indeed .
