Thank you for this. For re-installation, pay attention to how the collar has white plastic tabs on the inside. I had to reposition mine several times so that the tabs inside were positioned so that when the collar rotated, they were not “blocked’ by one of the clear vertical ribs of the top. the collar would not turn/slide into place until I saw,that the tabs were up against the vertical ribs. Once I figured out the orientation, it slipped right on.

Well you should have looked for the longer video of older guy explains it in 11 something mins all how to line up to reassemble properly. He mentions one, but not sure is the one I found. Only one that does it correctly in detail & not too long a video at all. Just perfect to the t. I don't see why you thanking him. This is an awful video.

Make sure the back “locking tab” is pulled out it is easier to push the tabs. Like Ray Love. My tabs wouldn’t budge until I moved the black tab that holds or locks the pump down for storage. I was going to impail myself with the screwdriver before I wondered about the lock being in the way. Thanks for the tips.

The OXO spinner I have looks more like the one on their website right now, the bottom 1/3 portion is more rounded, compared to the one in the video which has a more squared off profile. The method introduced in the video worked, to a degree. I found that, the screwdriver or whatever tool you use, need to have to be as thick as possible at the tip, so it'll make more contact and reduce the pressure. Also when pushing try to make the tip as flat on the plastic tab as possible, instead of just the corner. The plastic is very soft. When pressed with screwdriver's corner and it slips, the tip will score a deep groove, even gouge off a piece of the plastic. When putting the ring back on, using just one screwdriver didn't work for me. It was really meant to be installed (and take off) with a special tool that generates twisting force by applying pressure on all three tabs at once. I used two tools, one screwdriver and one car key, holing against two tabs at the same time, and tried to turn at the same time. I got it on :) BTW mine didn't have any mold in it (I just bought it), just wanted to learn how to disassemble the thing. I think later when I actually need to take it apart for mold problem, I'd try soak it in Clorox solution first (half cup in a gallon of water). Clorox will get the mold off, but it's also corrosive, so can't soak it for too long or the spring will start to rust (I made that mistake before).

Thanks for that - I couldn't figure it out and it was driving me nuts! I wonder why these companies don't think to make taking apart their products easier. If they actually USED them, they'd realize it occasionally gets gunky in there! Or at least ask the maids!!

Looking at the tabs again, the back clear plastic part is medial to the white, so do not line up. So does the white part need to be pushed inwards. I have a pic but couldn't figure out how to attach. Did I say is unlocked? Unless problem there

I have tried your method of releasing top pushing (horizonal on top part) clockwise on those 3 white tabs many times but they won't budge. Now bit of damage to the ends of the tabs where I am pushing. Do you think some lubricant like silicone would help, and not damage the plastic? Thank you

"It's just that easy...." My wife and I both latched onto that old line from some bad kitchen gadget commercial. Yes, I saw the tabs and figured that was what was holding the pieces together, and your video (thanks, btw!) convinced me that more force was needed than I had been willing to apply... that and a bigger screwdriver, which spread the force over a little more plastic, resulting in less damage to the plastic tab. So it's open. There are still a couple of pieces that can trap water and, eventually, bacteria, that I don't see how to force apart (and now I'm assuming force is reqired). I'm going to label this BAD INDUSTRIAL DESIGN. Likely a combination of cost reduction and an attempt to make something that won't fall apart because the pieces are easy to separate and clean. Understanding the motivating factors doesn't make me feel any better about this bad design. Maybe OXO doesn't think there's any danger of contamination from this part of the device. And I'm usually not the clean-freak in the family. But seeing pieces of an appliance that I can't get clean or get dry (or get apart) bothered me a lot. I noticed that you put this in the KZbin 'COMEDY' catetory, so I'll add: "Force it 'till it breaks... then back off a quarter turn"

This is NOT EASY to clean. I have a screwdriver that I used to push tabs apart, but it takes incredible force, and there is a good chance you will push the screwdriver enough to stab your thumb. The spring pops out, and there is no mention of how to rearrange in the video. My husband figured out that the metal twisty piece inside has to line up with the plastic fitting in the lid, otherwise you can't push down to spin. It took over 10 minutes to put it back together. I agree with above poster @pearce100 that it's a bad industrial design . It shouldn't be so hard to unlock. The tabs are now shredded and I haven't even used it to spin salad yet. I don't know how everyone can think this is so easy to clean the lid. I don't think I'm asking too much. And yes, because everyone says it's easy, I know I am the one to blame, but I cannot believe it's so hard for any company to make an easy to clean salad spinner. The lid gets moldy, and my previous Farberware spinner did not come apart, and when I pulled the lid apart to clean, it wouldn't go back together.

I may have a different OXO salad spinner, but all I had to do was squeeze two tabs on the part hanging from the top section and it came apart. No tools needed.

Ah shoot, I just tried it with an eyeglass screwdriver, and not only did it disfigure the plastic tab, but then it slipped and made a big scratch on my lid, plus cut across my hand, and now I'm bleeding. I'm so angry at this company. People shouldn't have to go through all of this just to get it clean! I use mine for spin drying mushrooms after I wash them, and I want to make sure it's disinfected from mushroom spores! We should all write to the company and demand they improve the design. [sigh]

it's not that simple! I've read through comments, watched a couple different videos about this and I can't get my tabs to budge into the slot space. I've used screwdrivers, a butter knife, etc. and applied a little to a lot of continual pressure. I'm damaging the plastic tabs and not seeing how this is going to work...thoughts?

Hmmm...maybe try putting some vegetable oil on the tabs and slots?? Or, you could stick it in the freezer for a while and try again (this will cause everything to shrink a little and maybe change how tight the assembly is...worth a try and has worked for me on other things like this) These commercial products are not all exactly the same...maybe your came out of the factory just "tighter". Sorry its not working!!

I got mine apart but can’t get it back together. The video would have been even more helpful to show the reassembly from a starting point of all the pieces totally separated.

You can use the cut out and slot on the white bits (for the black holding slider thing) to get the alignment right. Then you have get the angle of the end of the drill like thing to line up with its slot in the bottom white bit. And get its angle of dangle right so it hits the hole.
